For $110, A Steal For The 21 MP Camera! Bonus Android Tablet and Cell Phone
First off, for $110 as it is now, you could buy this just for the camera and you'd be getting a good deal. On top of that, you're getting an Android tablet and a cell phone. Yes, the phone is unlocked. I use Consumer Cellular and had no problem putting in a SIM card. However, let's say you just want a great, light, portable camera with the option of uploading photos over the internet (and checking your email or social media pages). From the man of the family. I was a professional videographer most of my career and I continue to take a lot of scenics and wildlife photos. It's wonderful to have this high-end camera with me at all times instead of my heavier professional devices. In a shirt pocket, I've now got a 21-megapixel (front) camera that shoots 4K video in the Ektra. And if someone wants to call me -- well, I'll speak to the camera. The problem for any serious photog with this device is, it is not easy or one-step to dump your photo files from the camera to a computer. I don't trust my pictures to anybody's cloud -- and I don't want to wait while hundreds of shots need to be uploaded. I have a PC with a number of high-end editing programs and I would have liked to be able to download them across the USB cable -- as I can with another smartphone I have. I noticed another reviewer uses MAC and has the same issue. The manual that comes with is too tiny to read and doesn't have much to say (very simplistic). It's easier to search for the phone's manual online -- but it remains basic. The only thing I discovered from this product page is that the onboard memory is "expandable" by adding a micro-SD card in the side of the unit (in front of the SIM card). I had a smaller card that I can remove from the phone, add the adaptor so it fits my PC slot, and then dump in the photographs/video. It's a little cumbersome but it works. I've just ordered a 128gb card from Sandisk, a company I know well. It's got high ratings with nearly 30,000 reviews, so I'll trust my 40-bucks to that SanDisk Ultra 128GB microSDXC UHS-I Card with Adapter, Black, Standard Packaging (SDSQUNC-128G-GN6MA).UPDATE: I've found a way to transfer files across the USB cable -- didn't see anything about this in the manual. Once the USB cable is plugged into the camera and my computer, I found I can swipe down from the upper right of the front page of the phone (once signed in) and a bar pops up that lists the USB. I tap that, and a menu comes up that allows me to chose what the USB cable will do -- charge only, transfer files, or transfer photos. I select "transfer photos" and then I can use my PC to find the photo folder on the Ektra and transfer all, or whichever ones I want. There's even the option to delete the photos (or not) from the camera, once the transfer is complete. I don't know if that would work with a Mac, but it's certainly not in the instructions. Also, having picked the option to use the cable for data transfer, it is still slow charging the cam-phone at the same time. SO I will now have the onboard storage + ability to transfer over the USB cable.I also wanted a carrying case (the cam-phone does come with a wrist strap). There are some nice-looking leather options available -- but they cost $75+++. In addition, I tried one and it was hard to get on and off the phone. They work just with the camera, but it's bad news when you need to make a phone call. Instead, I saved a bundle by buying this one for a mere $ 7.40 (with shipping), available in all kinds of colors, and it's good enough ONX3 (Brown) Kodak Ektra Case Slip In Pull Tab Faux Leather Pouch Case Cover.Kodak used to be a household name for us. As kids, we remember the famous yellow boxes that held the slide projector and trays of transparencies. I enjoyed getting this camera-phone in the famous yellow box.Without going into all the details, the camera has the functions and controls of an expensive DSLR model -- but in a handy, much smaller package.Recommended!
