Tribit StormBox Micro Bluetooth Speaker

bluetooth speaker portable speaker shower speaker clip bluetooth speaker bike speaker small speaker

Highlights of StormBox Micro

  • A pocket-size Bluetooth speaker with surprisingly big sound
  • The sound is crisp and clear from the fairly modest 9W output and has surprisingly good bass levels.
  • Once linked in party mode -- it's an easy process -- you can then switch to stereo mode with one speaker serving as the left speaker and the other as the right.
  • IP67 weather-resistance rating, which protects it against dust and being submerged in up to a meter of water.
  • Integrated rubber strap allows you to clip the speaker to anything from a backpack to poles, tree branches, your bike's handlebars or a belt loop on your pants.
  • Designed with a fabric cover for maximum style and flexibility, this speaker is more durable than you might expect.
  • A compact square that fits in the palm of your hand and is quite lightweight, making it easy for porting around to different locations.
  • StormBox Micro gives you visual battery level indication via a six-segment LED display on the front.
  • Maintain the convenience of USB-C charging and have just the right amount of juice for a full day of fun.
  • Advanced Bluetooth 5.0 easily pairs with your device and maintains a strong connection up to 100 feet away indoors. It can connect to 2 devices simultaneously, allowing you to easily switch who is playing tunes.
  • Sometimes you're in an environment where your speaker needs to cut through background noise. This speaker can fill a room with sound even if it's not a particularly small or quiet space.

A better Bose Micro in my opinion. Micro is the key word.
I dont write reviews, but when something shows incredible value and would help others I try to take the time to do so.Short version : this is a great speaker, an upgrade to the Bose micro in my opinion.Long version:I own a few bluetooth speakers, with the Bose micro as one of my favorites. Its portable, sounds great and easy to travel with.I have to admit tho, this is a great upgrade, an update so to speak to the Bose micro due to its USB-C charging port. I personally dont like the silicone material used on the Bose micro, and prefer the material on the Stormbox micro. The big question, does it sound as good? Let me make this clear: sound is subjective. What sound profile I prefer might be different from what you like or dislike. Another thing to keep in mind that this is meant to be used as a personal speaker, and not meant for a big party room. The Bose micro, compared to its other speakers in my opinion, has been subpar to their other speakers. I have the mini, the revolve and even the soundwear, but for some reason, the Bose micro sounds muffled. The Stormbox micro, on the other hand sounds clear and robust, and if you didnt tell me, I'd think this was the Bose speaker in a blind test, given its sound profile similarly found in the other models. There are bass ports located at the back, and hasn't distorted at high volumes.I mentioned the Bose micro sounding muffled, and with it laying flat on a table to utilize the bass ports makes it worse. On the other hand the Stormbox micro retains its clarity, almost similar to an omnidirectional speaker. This isn't a JBL flip 4 or 5, but it's also not as heavy or as big. There lies its strength, portability without sacrificing sound quality. Tribit did an exceptional job, similar to what Cambridge Soundworks did with their speakers back in its day. This is an exceptional speaker at an exceptional price.*edited to include comment i posted*just for reference, the other two speakers pictured are clockwiseJBL Clip 3- this was a purchase for my son, who loves his flip 4. This one was somewhat of an accessory. Soundwise, its clear, but bass was nonexistent, especially disappointing coming from the JBL family, who are known for their bass heavy speakers.Ihome IBT137-a buy on a whim, from bed bath and beyond, again for my kid. A toy to be sunk into the tub, but played pretty well for what it was. if you dont expect much, you wont be disappointed as much either. bass is lacking.Bose Micro-Of course, the Bose micro is on the bottom right, which ive indicated my thoughts in the review. one bonus tho is that their native app, once installed, can turn on the speaker even when on standby via bluetooth. this is to be the same for the revolve, and the soundwear. sadly the soundlink mini 2 does not use the app.JBL Go2.- Dont. just hard pass. i have this one too, but man, not worth it. even for its mobility.By the way, as of June 2020, there is a coupon floating around on the web, which makes this amazingly worth the price. i bought it full MSRP, but saw it afterwards. i cant get two unfortunately, Big boss declined. =)Edited 10/06/20Finally got a second one for 40 clams, and definitely at this point, this is a steal. on its own, its still one of the best portable speakers i carry around, both at work and out and about if needed. Setero or party mode, it was great and just added a great investment.I also recently bought the Tribit Surf, i already have a xsound go, but man, this is still the best one IMO. I love the USB-C connectivity, but the sound profile on this is definitely worth the price (especially at discounts around 40 bucks).I look forward to trying out the JBL Go 2 and Clip 5, but this is still my favorite speaker.Edit 10/13/2020Its the final hours of prime day, this was the first thing I bought, with the $10 coupon off, and some $10 prime day money to spend.I got the orange one and was hoping to love it. It's my favorite color, but expected more of a fall, maple leaf burnt orange, but this was about 2 shades brighter. Like a Sunkist orange soda.Another thing to point out was the fabric. Unlike the standard photos it doesn't reveal how prominent the speaker holes are, and how thin the fabric felt. Nothing like the grey or black one. Plus the beige was a bit hmm... laminate flooring kind? Sorry, just wasn't what I expected. My son commandeered my first one, now wanted the orange one. Good thing this was a good bargain.Stick with grey if you can. Photos attached for reference.FWIW, I am glad my reviews are helping people. This is one of the very few I did, but its because I truly believe this is a spectacular speaker.Edit 10/20/2022i cant believe i was able to be of help to a couple of shoppers here. i am thankful and appreciate your votes people.just wanted to update y'all. this is still my favorite speaker. i bought several to give to friends and family. did i ever buy the new one? nope. im happy with the sound signature of this one. the only two speakers i use more frequently have other specific needs.the bose flex and the anker soundcore boost. these are great speakers i use frequently, with the soundcore boost in the kitchen while the bose flex goes out and about if i needed more done.this speaker is still great. i am super happy and satisfied, despite buying numerous other 'portable' speakers, i always come home to this one.
    Thank you for your feedback

-a buy on a whim, from bed bath and beyond, again for my kid. A toy to be sunk into the tub, but played pretty well for what it was. if you dont expect much, you wont be disappointed as much either. bass is lacking.

    Bose Micro
-Of course, the Bose micro is on the bottom right, which ive indicated my thoughts in the review. one bonus tho is that their native app, once installed, can turn on the speaker even when on standby via bluetooth. this is to be the same for the revolve, and the soundwear. sadly the soundlink mini 2 does not use the app.

    JBL Go2.
    - Dont. just hard pass. i have this one too, but man, not worth it. even for its mobility.

By the way, as of June 2020, there is a coupon floating around on the web, which makes this amazingly worth the price. i bought it full MSRP, but saw it afterwards. i cant get two unfortunately, Big boss declined. =)

Finally got a second one for 40 clams, and definitely at this point, this is a steal. on its own, its still one of the best portable speakers i carry around, both at work and out and about if needed. Setero or party mode, it was great and just added a great investment.

I also recently bought the Tribit Surf, i already have a xsound go, but man, this is still the best one IMO. I love the USB-C connectivity, but the sound profile on this is definitely worth the price (especially at discounts around 40 bucks).

I look forward to trying out the JBL Go 2 and Clip 5, but this is still my favorite speaker.

Its the final hours of prime day, this was the first thing I bought, with the $10 coupon off, and some $10 prime day money to spend.

I got the orange one and was hoping to love it. It's my favorite color, but expected more of a fall, maple leaf burnt orange, but this was about 2 shades brighter. Like a Sunkist orange soda.

Another thing to point out was the fabric.

Good thing this was a good bargain.

Stick with grey if you can. Photos attached for reference.

FWIW, I am glad my reviews are helping people. This is one of the very few I did, but its because I truly believe this is a spectacular speaker.

i cant believe i was able to be of help to a couple of shoppers here. i am thankful and appreciate your votes people.

just wanted to update y'all. this is still my favorite speaker. i bought several to give to friends and family. did i ever buy the new one? nope. im happy with the sound signature of this one. the only two speakers i use more frequently have other specific needs.

the bose flex and the anker soundcore boost. these are great speakers i use frequently, with the soundcore boost in the kitchen while the bose flex goes out and about if i needed more done.

this speaker is still great. i am super happy and satisfied, despite buying numerous other 'portable' speakers, i always come home to this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars A better Bose Micro in my opinion. Micro is the key word.

I dont write reviews, but when something shows incredible value and would help others I try to take the time to do so.

Short version : this is a great speaker, an upgrade to the Bose micro in my opinion.

    Long version:
I own a few bluetooth speakers, with the Bose micro as one of my favorites. Its portable, sounds great and easy to travel with.

I have to admit tho, this is a great upgrade, an update so to speak to the Bose micro due to its USB-C charging port.

This is an exceptional speaker at an exceptional price.

For fifty dollars, the Tribit Thunderbox is an incredible value. Feels sturdy, not flimsy, and fits in the palm of my hand. Great sound, even has bass not found on my phone. I don’t plan to go outside with it, but if fits perfect in my small computer area. Hopefully, I will get another one in a few months and then I'll have stereo.

I purchased one of these last years to keep me company during some of my solo rides, everything was great about it. Excellent battery life and great sound. Recently I bought a second one for the stereo effect for the Midnight Boston Marathon Ride. The stereo separation and sound were next level. These little speakers can crank a high volume with little to no distortion. Many of my fellow riders commented on the great sound.

My once suggestion would be to add two extra discrete buttons to make advancing and replaying tracks easy while riding. Sometimes you just have to hear an intro again.... :)

I do not write reviews that often, but these babies are the real deal.

I purchased all 3 Tribit products, StormBox Micro, Stormbox and Maxsound Plus for my own personal self-testing. I wanted to see if all the good review were true.

In comparison to the other two higher end models, this speaker is a little kick in the ass. It has a 1, 2 punch (for its size) and the sound comes off very clean. I played all different types of music racing from classical, instrumental, pop, hip-hop, rap, bass and rock.

    Songs played:
    * Dinah Jane - Bottled Up
    • Ed Sheeran (Camila Cabello & Cardi B) - South of the Border
    • Maroon 5 - Memories
    • Conkarah - Banana
    * George Winston - Variations on the Canon
    • Hilary Stagg - Easy Days
    • Guns n ' Roses - Sweet child of mine
    • Yiruma - River flows in you
    • Post Malone - Wow
    • Beyonce - Love on top
    • Cardi B - Bodak Yellow
    • Matisyahu - One Day
    • Lil Wayne - How to love
    • Notorious BIG - Hypnotize
    • Lil Waye - A Milli
    • Brennan Savage - To the Moon

I didn't play it at 100% but at 75% it still sound clean and the speakers didn't sound like it was gonna pop. It plays more of the mids but that's fine. This is not a surround sound movie theater speaker. Although I'd love to test two of these paired up. Songs played at 75% were Sweet Child of Mine, Bottled Up and Variations on Canon. All CLEAN sounds not popping sounds.

I thought I could pair up any other Tribit bluetooth speaker, but that didn't work. After several attempts It didn't pair up to the StormBox or MaxSound Plus. Another thing about the bluetooth is that I was able to control the song being played on the StormBox Micro through another Tribit speaker. When I pressed the circle on the Stormbox or the triangle on the MaxSound Plus twice, whatever song is up next in the que started playing. Sometimes also, when I play songs on the MaxSound Plus it would automatically switch other to the Micro on its own. That's why I gave it a 4 instead of 5. When I press those buttons once the current song would be played on the speaker which I just pressed the button on. That feature I thought was neat.

This product is light enough in weight that I feel my child could handle it. I'd love to stick a pair on her bike and one on my scooter to test out around the neighborhood and see how far we can hear each others speakers. Especially with the outside noise.

I tried playing all 3 speakers while my neighbors kids were playing in their above ground pool. They were loud, but you could still hear the song clearly at 50%.

Battery seems to be good on the StormBox Micro. It has an auto shut off feature if it hasn't been playing any sounds. This is also for the case for the Stormbox. That one frequently turns itself off and I have to keep pairing. After about 20 minutes of not playing anything the MaxSound Plus is still synced while this StormBox Micro is still playing songs. The MaxSound Plus shuts off around 30 minutes of not being used.

For the price and convenient small travel size I would say this is a good speaker. I will have to update how it'll sound while attached to a bike, if I get a second pair. I'd also like to test two speakers while watching an movie on the iPad outdoors. It would be convenient to have on opposite ends of the pool while the movie is up on the wall.

Although, the StormBox sounds great as well, I would most likely keep this, StormBox Micro or the MaxSound Plus since I experienced bluetooth and power issues with the StormBox. The StormBox Micro is good enough for a quick day trip.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm actually hoping I received a defective unit!
Reviewed in Canada on April 19, 2022

EDIT: Tribit have sent me a replacement unit. Sound is way better and the battery holds double the time, this confirming I had a defective unit. Naturally I have now changed my initial 1 star to 5 stars, as the price paid is well worth it for this speaker. It outperforms my same size JBL by a mile, whether it be sound quality or battery life. I definately recommend!

So I was about to buy another JBL speaker, but kept on seeing good sayings about tribit on the web. Read alot of the reviews here (great sound, easy 8h battery life, etc...) and decided to try it out since all I need is for a battery to last 7 hours at mid volume, have a decent sound and be dust-proof.

Not even 2 days in, as soon as there's a bass kick, it sounds like a full blown speaker. It screeches with every kick. Now it wasn't that way at the beginning, so I'm pretty sure something blew inside. Secondly, the battery at mid volume lasts 4 hours, maybe 5 if you're lucky. I couldn't talk about durability as I didn't even have time to slightly put it too the test.

Overall, I definately do not recommend this speaker. I will have to send it in for a refund and probably pay higher dollars to go back to JBL. And if this is a defective unit, I'll be glad to trade it in to try another one, but how unlucky could I be to have both the speaker and the battery sub-perform compared to what's stated...

5.0 out of 5 stars This excellent speaker has impressed me!
Reviewed in Canada on May 9, 2021
I picked this one up for when I'm bicycling to work.
It's a lot smaller than the larger bluetooth speaker I use when I drive in.
This is three or four inches on a side and around 1.5 inches in height.

The orange stretch strap doesn't look like it would support the speaker, but it does provide an excellent grip whether I loop it around a handlebar or the strap on my backpack.
The speaker is secure, despite a somewhat bumpy gravel ride in places along the commute.

The speaker has a lot of power, far more than I'd expect for such a small and light device.
At the volume I play it at (I can hear it over cars and my surroundings and then at a slightly lower volume at work, where its louder with my spotify than the next guy's radio but quiet enough that his radio is louder than the speaker at his desk...) it lasts for two work days.
I'll say twelve hours on one charge; it's on a single bar of battery remaining when I recharge.

I've had it around a month now.
The buttons are responsive for volume up/down.
The middle button pauses or restarts music on a single press or skips a track on a double press.

It's not too often that I write a review, but I just have to share how I feel about this amazing speaker. First and foremost, super fast delivery, I was lucky to receive it 6 days before ETA. Build quality is fantastic, when you take it out of its box, you can feel and touch the quality in your hand. Pairing is easy. Tested the sound immediately and put on some old skool rnb, and wow. Damn good sound from a speaker that sit on palm of your hand. You can feel the well rounded bass, hear the clarity from mids and has just enough treble. Played some songs with vocals and acoustics, wowsers... I am blown away. This speaker has a complete sound in my opinion. Buttons are tactile, the strap is strong, I have tested on my bike, yet to ride with it, but seems sturdy when I try wiggle it on the handle bar. I am glad to make the purchase, it's perfect for what I need. Thank you Tribit for an awesome speaker.
