$300 Headset Broke in Less Than a Year
Update 06/21/2020: I have upped the review to 4 stars (rather than 3) due to having my RMA request promptly accepted. I was sent a new, non-refurbished, headset that specifically was made for RMA issues (said so in the box; no resale, RMA only). I did have to pay my own shipping to send the broken headset back, but otherwise, the process was fairly straight-forward. I would have hoped to receive them slightly sooner (as I had no back-up set of headphones), and they were just sitting in FedEx's warehouse for half a week, but at least it has been dealt with.Still, buyer beware...These things still have the flaw I spoke of in the original review, and I am sure it is only a matter of time before these break again. I will update the review if/when that occurs.Original Review: I bought the headset in October of 2019. Since then, the headset has worked fairly well. The audio is great, the headset isn't all that comfortable, but it also isn't too bad, and the software issues were things I was able to work-around. However, today, the right swivel for the headset completely broke. I was just removing the headset as I normally do, and it snapped. Now, all that is left keeping it hanging from the headband is a flimsy wire.I have had this same problem numerous times with cheaper SoundBlaster headsets, and that was partially my reasoning behind buying these (at the time) $300 headphones. To say I am disappointed with the build quality would be an understatement. They appear to be high-quality at the beginning, but they just end-up being as susceptible to breaking as those cheap SoundBlaster headsets. I had hoped for better. This is not a one-off issue for either manufacturer, as I have read a multitude of reviews regarding the flimsy nature of the swivel plastic. I would hope they fix this in the future, but I am doubtful. I have started the process to RMA the headset, and will update the review if/when they accept the RMA request.

1.0 out of 5 stars AVOID: Broken in 1 year (Was USB-C issues reported)
Reviewed in the United States on April 21, 2020
Update: I decided to continue to use this headset, despite not having any luck with the quality of the USB-C option (read below). While the USB-C issues really put me off, the sound was good enough that it was worth keeping. Fast forward just slightly over a year (1 year, 1 month) and as you can see, the headphone almost snapped entirely off the product on the right cup. I'm an older gamer, and exceedingly gentle on my equipment since I put much of it together myself. There is absolutely no call for this to have happened in normal wear and tear. And of course, with the high price tag, you expect SOME quality. Guess how long the warranty extends for? Yes, indeed, 1 year. And I'm out my purchase price. Will update if they bother responding to my request for replacement, but this is honestly the worst purchase I've made in tech for some time, and I'm really sad they didn't ultimately work for the investment.

Update 2: Got a replacement, which was great customer service. Broke AGAIN within 4 months. This time a small fracture in the left main assembly (above the earphone) cracked off. Attempting a second RMA after the weekend, but this is now tedious. I still can't recommend this headset for the trouble it's been.

    Previous review:
I got this headset not only for the reviews of the great sound, but also due to the HyperX name. I've had a previous version of their gaming headsets and absolutely loved them, and always felt it was a mistake going to a different brand on my last purchase. I was excited for this new pair of headphones!

The setup was very easy, and everything worked well enough out of the gate. The USB-C cord was exceedingly short, so it made using it worthless. Getting an slightly longer cord made it useful, but one of the entire reasons I wanted this pair of headphones was the high end audio AND the USB-C connectivity. While the sound lived up to the hype, the USB-C connection kills this whole setup for me. Once per day at a minimum, the sound locks up. Opening Windows sound menu, you can see the speakers have some volume, but it's no longer moving and - as expected - is locked in place, as the headphones are totally unresponsive. The only way I've found to fix it is to either uninstall the drivers and reinsert the headphones, or reboot. Rebooting, while faster, is absolutely not acceptable 1 to 3 times per day for this expensive of a pair of headphones.

If you're going to offer a connection, it better darn well work. This is getting a refund, as much as I absolutely hate to have to send another pair of headphones back on return. I'm not willing to 'live with it', and I'm not paying this much for a broken device, whether that's hardware, firmware or software. I'm extremely disappointed, and my rating reflects the specific failure of the device itself. For the short time I've had it, I'd likely have put it into the five-star category if it was working correctly over the first few weeks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sehr gute Kopfhörer
Reviewed in Germany on November 26, 2023
