First Timer Finds It Adequate

First Timer Finds It Adequate
Firstly, I've never really ironed before and had no idea whether or not this would be a good product. I relied heavily on the reviews and the items great, many features when considering this purchase.I've only used the iron a few times, and as it's my first one and time ironing, I can't attest to the performance compared to other irons. The operating instructions supplied with the iron satisfactorily explained how to set up and configure the iron with one (1) exception. The instructions did not address how to rotate the Variable Steam Control Dial, instead only stating "Move the Variable Steam Control Dial to the maximum position" in the "Before First Use" section. Trying to figure out how to rotate the dial was annoying because the instructions didn't address how to rotate it, and the outer edge of the dial, coated in a very slippery plastic frustrated me as I kept trying to rotate the dial without success. Ultimately, I figured it out after several attempts of trial and error the dial has a safety mechanism similar to a childproof safety cap on a medicine bottle. Push the dial in (around the 6 o'clock position) and then rotate counter clockwise to turn the steam on. Rotating the dial clockwise to the descaling position didn't seem to require pressing the dial in, but then again you have to hold the dial at this position to descale the steam chamber. The control buttons, LCD display and audible alerts make using the iron simple. The iron works as expected; it removes wrinkles from clothes. As long as this iron doesn't fail anytime in the near future, it'll be a great product. One performance criticism: the iron has dribbled a bit of water on lower temperature settings (e.g. 5) when using the burst of steam function, however it doesn't dribble water at higher temperature settings. I don't know if this is typical of all irons, but I know if the temperature is too low to create steam then you're not going to get steam -- I imagine this temperature setting is not high enough to consistently get steam.

I was skeptical because of some negative reviews but I took a chance based on the majority of positive reviews. I really am happy with the iron. It does not drip when I have waited until the temperature level I selected was reached. It did drip once when I did not wait until hearing the beep which indicates the temperature level was reached. There after, it didn't leak at all. Press the steam button for a burst of steam and it was great and no, it did not rush up over the iron onto my hand.

The iron glided well.
The iron appears heavy when you take it out of the box but while ironing, it did not feel heavy at all.

Cons:
So far the only negatives are:
The water hole is too small so you must poor with either precision or slowly, otherwise it will spill on the sides, but I do like that it comes with the watering container.
The dial to select steam, less steam, or no steam is in a poor location. As I iron I can't help from touch that dial so the dial moves a little while ironing. When I made an effort to avoid it, it was not a problem but when I put the iron down and then reused it I would forget about the dial and I would hit it again.

You must poor the water in the flat position because of the way the water reservoir lid opens. If you try pouring water while in the vertical position, it will spill over.

Regardless of the cons, overall I really am satisfied with this iron. My cons were not significant bummers for me. I give it a 5 star.

Purchased this iron to replace a 10 year old model and we were completely amazed at it's performance. It heats up super quick, is easy to use, has a very good handle which allows for a firm hold and is just right when it comes to the weight. Not too heavy, but not too light either. Steam function works great, with no leaking water. Easy to fill, and it even comes with it's own funnel which makes for a no mess refill. The iron beeps when it reaches the desired temperature, making it easy to know when it's ready to iron. The only downside (and minor one) is that when you iron, the temp does bounce around a bit, causing the unit to beep multiple times while you are ironing. I would definitely recommend this unit and would buy it again.

I purchased this used from amazon returns. This iron gets 5 stars for the ease of turning it on and off, no dial that requires extra effort to hold iron and turn. I embroider and like being able to just reach over, press the button 9 times and in 15 seconds its ready to go. It heats up very quickly. I also need one that shuts off when left down or on. I never would have imagined I would leave an iron down but I did. Really it was the spiders fault as I had to get someone to move it outside. I came back in the room to find I had left the iron down with TV comedy type results. lol I needed it to shut off because in my old age I find I wander off to do other things. haha

I have had no issues with the controls, no leaking issues. I expected some problems since it was a return but it was like new. The steam shuts off when you shut it off at the control. This is important as there are parts of what I iron that will get lumpy if steamed. I dont have problems with it spitting all over what I am ironing. I use distilled water. It does make a sputtering sound when brought upright but it doesnt come out of the iron. My old $10 iron spits huge amounts out when its lifted up.

The reason for 4 stars. The linen setting just doesnt seem hot enough. Ive been meaning to put a laser thermometer on it to see what temp it really is but keep forgetting. I know my previous $10 iron is crazy hot on linen. For me this isnt usually an issue and if I really need super heat I break out the old one.

Its more important I dont burn down the house and can press a button to turn on and off, than to have the linen setting be blazing hot.

I replaced my old Black & Decker iron when it finally died. I was deciding between this iron and the new Black & Decker iron. I chose this one based on consumer reports recommending this, and picking it as it's 3rd overall iron in it's ratings. I was concerned because the ratings were a bit mixed. However, when I used it for the first time this weekend, I was very pleased. I read that some feel the iron is heavy, but it is way lighter than my old iron, and think it feels "sturdy", but not heavy. It has a lot of steam, which is great, and the clothes come out crisp, even without any starch spray. It heats up quickly, and works effortlessly. So far, I really like this iron a lot, and am happy with my purchase.

One thing I will add. The instructions are a bit different from some other irons I've used. That may explain why some reviewers have had problems with water dripping. The manual says to not turn on the steam until the iron is fully heated up.

Great product. Outstanding design. Powerful steam burst and smooth glide removes any wrinkles without any effort. The digital display is gorgeous and different settings makes it so much easier to adjust the heat and efficency.
I would definetely recommend it.
Also, the customer service was great. Very helpful and understanding.

Heats quickly and does a good job. I especially like the auto off feature. It would be annoying, if it didn't heat up so quickly. I like the piece of mind that I didn't leave the iron on. :) The steam comes out well too. No drips. :)

4.0 out of 5 stars but so far we are pleased. The steam is powerful
Reviewed in Canada on October 21, 2014
It's been only a few weeks since purchasing, but so far we are pleased. The steam is powerful, and the iron is not too light or heavy for this middle-aged couple who iron twice a week. And the once-a-month self-cleaning task is quick and easy. Two minor concerns are the small water fill hole that requires patience and attention, and the cord which could be longer or perhaps could swivel. Otherwise, good value for the price (which is more than we wanted to pay, but worth it so far).

3.0 out of 5 stars it's good for light stuff
Reviewed in Canada on November 25, 2016
Definitely not worth the price, it's good for light stuff, it doesn't heat up enough, I have to put it on maximum just to iron a regular shirt.
On the good side, it doesn't leak (so far), it has a sort of off button and it turns off automatically

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Iron from Singer
Reviewed in Canada on June 12, 2015
Powerful iron with amazing heat and steam generation.

Definitely recommended for most of you out there, except those who rarely move the iron around when doing the act (ironing, that is) due to its auto-off when it detects little to no motion.

Otherwise, this is the iron to get. Don't spend money on the more expensive brands out there.
