I bought an open box because it was so much cheaper, lol. I haven't been disappointed. I wanted to make a pork roast, and it came out perfect after 24h. No burnt food (I used a slow cooker last year that belonged to someone else, and it burnt everything to charcoal when it was left overnight - slow cookers shouldn't burn anything, especially on low).
The light is difficult to see. It's not shiny at all. You can only tell it's on when you unplug it and the light goes dark instead of pale red. I thought it was broken at first. Also, the light is on if it's plugged in - it does not indicate if it's turned on, which of course created more confusion. It's not defective or anything worth taking a star off for, but PLEASE be aware so you don't end up returning a fully functional product because you can't tell if it's turned on lol.
It also emitted a burning smell at first, which dissipated. I'm guessing some glue or something got on the heating element... I'm not sure, but it's not the first time I've seen a heated electronic make that smell, and it is truly nothing to worry about as long as there are no other symptoms that the device is malfunctioning. It will go away shortly. Don't panic. 🙂
Overall, a good slow cooker. I was nervous about buying my first slow cooker that wasn't a Crock Pot, but this seems to be just as good.
