I ran the robot vacuum over a dirty floor and then ran my regular vacuum. My regular vacuum still picked up pet hair and dirt but not nearly as much as it usually does. I have also run the robot vacuum after my regular vacuum and still gotten dirt and pet hair as well so that doesn't say much.
I think this vacuum works best by using it every day to stay on top of accumulating dirt and hair, but I wouldn't use it to clean a really dirty floor.
A few things that are important to note...
1. It uses a lot of its battery power to map a new floor, but once the map is created it can do 3 rooms and a hallway without needing a charge. Don't judge this devices battery life until after a map has been made.
2. If you want it to mop well, you have to go into the settings and change it to the Y shaped cleaning mode. See pictures. It does not mop well at all in regular mode.
3. If the dust bin is full it will return to the base and charge before heading out to clean again. It doesn't tell you the dust bin is full so you may think that it needs to charge and have a negative opinion of its battery life. It'd be nice if it'd tell you that the dust bin is full. Sometimes I manually empty the dust bin before it's done so it doesn't go back to the base.
4. Once a map is created you need to go into the settings and manually save the map before creating a new map or the first map just disappears. If you switch floors often you have to go into the room management settings and tell it what floor it's on or it will create a new map.
5. If there's pets or people who get long hair on the floor, the hair will wrap around the brush but it's easy to get the brush out and clean it. I do this once every couple of days.
6. The charging station is very loud when it's emptying the dust bin. I would not set the vacuum to run at night.
7. The dust collector/charging station has a bag. You can manually empty the bag and use it again, but if you have a pet hair issue you will have to pull it out with your fingers and it's kind of gross.
8. My toddler is terrified of the robot vacuum and runs away crying whenever it comes on. It is currently impossible to convince him that the vacuum isn't after him. My dog and cat are cool with it though.
All in all, I'm happy with this little robot. I have it set to run all by itself at a certain time and I love coming home to a clean floor. I mostly use it for vacuuming and I only use it to mop about once a week. I also run my regular vacuum and mop once a week.
My carpets always had pet fur on them, but now that I'm running this thing every day it's sooooo much better.
