You've got a backup power source

Obsidian features 9V terminals at the bottom of the deadbolt exterior that act as a backup power source in case the batteries run out. Use the 9V battery to quickly power the touchscreen by simply touching the battery prongs to the terminals. Then, enter your code as usual to open the door.

Amazon Cloud Cam Key Edition is required to use with Amazon Key. With the Amazon Key App, lock and unlock from anywhere and monitor your door by viewing motion clips. Stop making spare keys by easily creating unique pin codes and managing schedules of your guests. Prime members in select cities and surrounding areas can opt-in to in-home delivery. The keyless entry smart lock allows you to enter your home using a personal code and the motorized deadbolt locks with just the push of a button. It has no keyway to pick or bump. Secured keyless entry convenience includes 30 user codes plus a master code feature for added security, a tamper resistant interior cover, and a capacitive touchscreen with dedicated lock button for one touch locking. Users have additional options that include turning on automatic door locking after 30 seconds, a door locked/unlocked blinking LED indicator, and audible beeping when pressing buttons. It also uses a 9V battery as a backup power source to illuminate the touchscreen for code entry, in case the 4 AA batteries run out. Kwikset’s Obsidian touchscreen electronic deadbolt is BHMA grade 2 certified, UL certified 20 minute fire rated, and has patented SecureScreen technology to help prevent against user code detection via fingerprints on the touchscreen. An alarm sounds after 3 consecutive incorrect codes are entered. Fits standard doors (1-3/8in. – 2in.) and installs in minutes with just a screw driver - no new screw holes or hard wiring needed. It works very well for us. Nice looking. You can use it with Amazon Key, set up guests that have temporary or permenant access, and see a log of activity. Most guests are able to figure it out easily. It warns you when the battery is low.

The Schlage is similar, but has a very flimsy keypad, and feels cheap. I like this one much better.

If your looking to spend hours of your time on the phone with ppl who have absolutely no idea what they are talking about then this is the perfect lock for you! Doesn’t connect and if it finally does well then it just starts choosing wen it wants to work! Connects and disconnects as it chooses and well I’m just completely over trying! Can’t get it to stay wo king for more then a couple hours at a time! This lock is compete garbage if u want to use it with the amazon cloud cameras and really don’t understand why amazon would put their name on this product!!!

It was easy to install and I love the functionality. It looks sleek and modern. However, I have to replace batteries every month-month and a half, which is an annoyance as there is no easy access battery door. You have to unscrew the back panel to access the battery pack. It also doesn't work well if it is wet, so if it's raining I have to find a dry piece of shirt to wipe it off before I can get in (we don't have an overhang above our door). I was worried about its performance when hot or in the sun (it's exposed to direct sun for most of the day), but that hasn't been an issue at all. Plus, I love the app and I love the control I have over guest codes. Works great for a household like mine where people come and go a lot.

This was by far the best looking keyless entry deadbolt available.
The tough screen can be frustrating sometimes. For me this is especially so at the end of the day when the lock gets full sunlight making the unit warm to the touch and unreliable when trying to register a key entry. If I wipe my whole hand across the unit first this appears to help but I fell I should not need to do this as I would expect the unit to work under most environmental conditions (I’m in Seattle so it’s not like the sunn will be too hot....)

We bought this in 2019. After 1 year it just stopped working. We replaced batteries after batteries until it just wouldn’t work at all. It was a headache going through the company for a replacement but eventually they sent us a new one. And now a year after the replacement one, we are having the same problems. We’re just going to go ahead and buy a different brand.

Setup was pretty quick on a standard door. Took me a few minutes and a bit of trial/error in order to figure out the size of screws needed. However, once I figured that out...the cloud cam paired quickly. The Amazon Key app works great, and I love being able to lock and unlock from the app.

But, I'm a simple guy, and want my Echo Plus to run the show. Since the cloud cam is integrated with Alexa, I assumed that the Obsidian would as well. Per my conversation with support, that's a no.

So, I want this to have a five star review. Get the Obsidian model to pair with Echo Plus. I'd like it to lock on a timer. Thanks guys!

I got this one as part of the Amazon Key Kit. It works fairly well. At first it was getting jammed but it definitely works now. My main issue, currently, is setting up guest codes on the Amazon Key app is very hit or miss. I have only been able to set one up after attempting it dozens of times. The Cloud Cam is required for this to work remotely. Every time I try to set a new code, the app says that it could not save the code because the lock may be offline (which is never the case because I can lock/unlock it from the app with no issues).
