One thing I will warn you about if you install this yourself. After wiring everything up, pressure testing the gas line and water lines.. I went over to the electric panel and switched on the circuit. Immediately the pool heater went BOOOMMM! And smoke started coming out of the side! It was my fault, for the most part. The area where the power wires connect have metal dividers with labels on them, which have edges that are razor sharp! Why they thought this would be ok I don't know. When screwing down the cover it pressed one of the positive wires against the sharp edge and it cut threw the wire effectively grounding the 240V to the units medal body. Of course when I applied power it went BOOM! Amazingly, the breaker at the house blew and when I detected the problem and re-wired the unit, (removing the two phillips head screws and pulling out the pesky divider). I was down right shocked to see the unit power right on when I flipped the breaker the second time. This pool pump took 240V direct to the chassis and it didn't damage a single electrical component inside. Well built, but poor design with sharp edges near power wires!
Otherwise the install was simple and took less than two hours. I was removing an old electric heat pump so the main water connections and power were already run to the area. Don't be afraid to install this yourself and save that money!

Shipment was prompt and received on the promised day. Delivery truck had a lift to get it off the truck and the delivery guy dollied it up my steep driveway for me.
I installed the heater myself with only a little help lifting it into place. It was a tight location - concrete wall on one side, wood fence on another, the pump/filter assembly on the third side and very little room to work. Had to buy only a couple of plastic water fittings to adapt to the inlet/outlet. Got lucky with the gas line, only needed an elbow and a pipe nipple that I had left over from an old project.
Had a little difficulty firing it up the first time. It wouldn't start - fumbled around and found the gas valve inside - turned it to "on" position. Then it fired right up. DUH! We don't need no darn instruction page.
Just kidding about the instructions, they were clear enough although I was a bit confused about the "remote thermostat" section. As it turns out, I didn't need a remote thermostat but the installation manual led me to believe otherwise. The unit has an internal thermostat. There is also a youtube video on installing these heaters - helped a lot.
My pool is a 20 x 40 inground - 30,000 gallons as near as I can figure. The heater I had was a 20+ year old 250,000 btu unit and it seemed to do the job before it died. So, I figured this one would work just as well. For the 4 days I had it in service it worked fine. Initially, I got about one degree fahrenheit increase per hour. In my case, I fired it up in the morning - water temp was 70f, it was 80f by late afternoon. This was on an 80 deg day.
Hope I get my leaky pool fixed next spring so I can give this unit a proper test.

Follow up 8/2015: My leaks were repaired this season so I'm in business this year albeit late (mid-July). This unit is a beast! Wife & I have named it "Hefty Harry the Heater". Works like a charm - ignites with authority and pumps out the heat. It's too easy - wife has learned how to use it and raises the temp to an unauthorized 87 degrees when I'm not looking. In my locale (Michigan) the temps drop into the 60s at night and the pool loses lots of heat - the unit warms is back up in an hour or two. Haven't yet got a gas bill - will probably cause a heart attack.
This heater is physically smaller than the old heater, and it has much nicer controls. The digital control panel with water temp readout is a nice feature.
Some reviewers have complained about the noise. Most newer gas burner equipment utilize an induced draft system that has a small blower motor that either pushes or pulls air through the burner compartment, That allows the heating to take place in a smaller space, and gives a much more controlled burn which results in lower emissions and higher efficiency. I'm an HVAC engineer, which is why I know this.
This process does produce a bit of a roar, though, which is the sound that some have mentioned. While it is audible, I don't find it offensive at all.
It's a nice heater, and I'm already enjoying a warm pool, thanks to it.
Note: Thanks to some of the other reviews, I installed diverter valves on the lines which gives me the option of bypassing the heater when it's not needed. This should extend the life of the heater by protecting it from excessive chlorine.
