From the Manufacturer
The GreenWorks products that you purchase have a ZERO carbon footprint. We'll say that again - our entire product line will never release an ounce of carbon emission into the air. 4 Year Warranty - Double The Industry Standard. When looking for lawn tools, we know you're thinking about quality. You're looking for something that will get the job done and get you back to your weekend. That's why GreenWorks backs every tool with a full four-year warranty - we know our products will perform at the highest level and always be reliable. GreenWorks high quality products are manufactured to last. That's why we back every product with a warranty that's twice the industry standard. We'll provide all the power you need without polluting the air or forcing you to keep hauling your gas can to the nearest station (especially in the middle of a mow). No more tune-ups or maintenance. No more emissions. Fifty-four million Americans mow their lawns every weekend, according to the EPA, using 800 million gallons of gas each year. Along the way, homeowners spill more than 17 million gallons of gas while refueling. That's equivalent to the 1989 Exxon Valdez disaster. It's time to move beyond clumsy, harmful gas-powered mowers. It's time for GreenWorks to be your lawn tools for life. Power cord not included.

In comparison, the GreenWorks is so amazingly light and of course, being electric, starts at a press of the handle. I have very little fatigue and the adjustment lengths are just perfect for me. No struggling to change handle orientation or open head. I especially like the swivel feature and the hook in the handle to hold the cord. Rather than bump the head to extend the line, you simply turn the unit on, then off, then on again. It's a little tricky, but once you figure it out, is really easy. If the line is caught inside and won't extend, there is a release button on the head that I can actually work. And I can take the head off without a struggle but yet everything is firm and tight and snaps easily back into place.
The GreenWorks cuts beautifully with minimal snags, and has increased tremendously my running/cutting time! More time cutting, less time fiddling to get it adjusted or to run. I've learned that it even cuts taller privet by lifting to waist height (which I never would be able to do with a gas powered unit), cutting top to bottom all the way to the ground. The GreenWorks runs consistently and my cutting time has increased so much compared to a gas powered unit. Line snags are minimal, and most of the time are the result of tangles created by me when twining the line. What a workhorse this little trimmer is! It appears to be very well made, was packaged nicely and arrived on time.
I can see the possibility that a taller person may find the length uncomfortable as it seems you would have to bend over if it's not long enough for you. But it is the perfect length for me and so easy to adjust the length longer or shorter, depending upon what I'm cutting. I used the unit with (2) of those orange 100 ft extension cords from Home Depot with no trouble.
I am so happy with this unit that I actually look forward to cutting. And so easy to get it up and running, I use it more than I ever used my gas powered unit, which was such a hassle. I've had the unit for about a month and used maybe 10 hours so far with no issues at all.
I highly recommend this unit, especially for anyone who struggles with gas powered units. Quick, easy, light, so comfortable to use and runs beautifully and extremely affordably priced. It cuts everything I've thrown at it beautifully and consistently. Time will tell how long the unit will last, especially in my harsher environment. I would purchase this unit again and again and am totally sold. I would even go so far as to say that if for some reason it doesn't last, I wouldn't bat an eye in purchasing it a couple of times a summer, since it is so affordable and easy to use - a real workhorse! Did I say how much I love this cutter? :)
I replaced a 15 inch Weedeater with the 13 inch Greenworks trimmer. I got about 60 uses out of the Weedeather before it ceased to function. It was too large and too heavy and bulky for my yard where I have a lot of fences and landscaping rocks to trim around. The fact that the trimmer has TWO trim lines is also very important because the string lasts longer and the two lines cut about twice as fast.
The Weedeater's string advance system never worked well - had to turn the unit over and pull out the string by hand. BUT THE GREENWORKS TRIMMER LINE ADVANCE ACTUALLY WORKS!!! Just release the ON trigger for two seconds and it advances automatically (you will hear it click). I wear the the strings down really fast trimming around rocks, so I have to click it off and on several times to get the string out to full length, but that takes about 5 seconds. I think the unit will not use (waste) as much string as the Weedeater. The 4 amp motor has sufficient power for fast trimming.
The unit was double boxed for shipping. It has an adjustable length handle, which is still a bit short for someone who is 6'4", but it works well. It was very easy to assemble - about 10 minutes. I would estimate it cut my trim time from 1.5 hours to about 45 minutes.
It would be great if Amazon also carried the refill spools of line.
I'm definitely a Weed Wacking Wonder Woman and have been taming acres using weed wackers for about 25 years. I KNOW I'm asking too much of this trimmer which is probably meant for a suburban short driveway, not acres and acres of 2-3 foot tall grasses and weeds like star thistle and such. However I am 5'3", 116#, and almost 70 years old. Even I, at 5'3", extend the handle fully. I love the light weight! I can go for hours at a time. However that was probably what did it in as I think I burnt out the engine. Next time I'll take coffee breaks and let the trimmer cool off, and I'd recommend you consider that option also.
I didn't try to return the dead trimmer because I would have to pay shipping (according to the manual) and these weed whips are almost in the 'disposable' catagory. I had a stronger/bigger GreenWorks trimmer which lasted about 1 year, but I got blisters and sore muscles due to the weight. This smaller trimmer brings down the weeds just as well as the larger trimmer and is much easier to control and use.
Our gas trimmer, although powerful, is much too large and heavy for me. I prefer electric for weight, quick starts/stops, no fumes, and less noise even though we are completely off-the-grid (we make our own electricity). This weed wacker is very very effective as far as cutting through the fast growing mountain weeds. It is also quieter than my larger/older GreenWorks trimmer. We have a couple of months of heavy weed whipping each spring to prepare for fire season. I've tried battery run trimmers and they just aren't tough enough - using four batteries or more I can barely do a 40' x 40' dog run. Battery whips just don't have enough power for my needs.
This trimmer has a handle which when squeezed powers the trimmer. You let go and it goes off. I do not find the handle difficult to use or very tiring. I do feel that the little hook which secures the extension cord is too small for a good outdoor extension cord.
Truthfully, since I have no intention of returning the dead trimmer, I did take the thing apart and my husband and I tested the wiring for the switch and it was fine.
Well I hope this helps somebody.
