Digital Art Platform

Where did you get the inspiration for your product?

The Internet is the greatest engine of creative expression ever invented. Electric Objects was inspired by a deep need in the founding team to enjoy the beauty of the Internet in a new, dedicated space, free from our distracting computers, tablets, and phones. We wanted to find a way to bring that beauty into our homes, through a device that lived up to the quality of the art, and afforded it the time and space it deserves.

What differentiates your product from similar products out there?

EO1 brings the power of computing into the service of art. By design, EO1 is meant to fade into the background, like a photograph or a painting that hangs on your wall. With EO1, you can change your art with your mood or with the sunset. You can bring all of the beauty of the Internet into your life in a completely new way.

Tell us about the best and most challenging parts of the creation process.

EO1 is the result of years of development. Everything about it, from the selection of the screen, to the feel of the frame, to the software built on top of it, was designed with art in mind. There's nothing like it, and when you bring it into your home and hang it up on your wall, you'll find it difficult to remember what your home was like without it. Building any new kind of hardware is a challenging process, but seeing it brought to life in the homes of thousands of people all over the world has been one of the most rewarding experiences of our lives.

Great while it lasted.
In 2016, I purchased this for $280. Since then Electric Objects went out of business. Giphy took over the app which allowed you load images from others, or your own. In 2019, my frame began to flicker. I unplugged it, then plugged it back in hoping to reset it. Unfortunately, it was dead. Even at the discounted price I paid, it should have lasted longer.

The most important consideration for consumers is not the technical quality, but the internet connected nature of the product, and how the company abuses that. On 10/18/16, the company announced accessing artwork would, in the future, cost $10 a month with an "exciting new subscription plan". The company:

*sold the device at $500 without subscription
*kickstarted it's launch without the subscription
*earned the product reviews they trumpet without the subscription

The product has no purpose other than displaying art, and the company is now suddenly, after the fact, adding a cost equivalent to a Netflix or Amazon prime subscription for the device to access curated art. Additionally, they have not, as of this writting, updated the product description on Amazon to inform new customers of the additional cost. According to news reports, users will at least still have access to art that they have uploaded without additional cost. Of course, one can simply display images nearly any modern television, which are both far larger, have more features, and become increasingly affordable year over year.

Even in the unlikely event that someone feels that the new purchase price and monthly service fee is a reasonable value, it is unclear why anyone would do business with a company that acts in such a fashion.

Great display love that. The software and the UI design leaves a lot on the table...

No I do not want all my uploads to be public by default, yes I would like to be able to rotate through a set of photos, yes, it would be nice to not have so much of a service at the back end. Just give me a folder to images in and settings like change daily or change hourly, in order or random and off we go.

Would be absolutely 5 stars with better software interface. The hard part is done, get a good software engineer and you can build this so quickly.

The Quality is Pristine, Awesome Clarity, Hope to buy the E02.
(Paid more than half the total amount on US Tax & Shipping to Qatar, The only sad part)

The App Needs few Updates:
- Quick Rotate Option (for Horizontal Viewing)
- Frequency of Slide (Less than 15mins)
- Faster Uploads
- 4G Control & Activation

It does exactly what it sets out to do and does it brilliantly. The screen quality is top notch but I believe it can be even better (look less like a screen)

Well, I wanted to love this frame and I am deeply dissapointed. I'll leave the size, interface, setup and display quality to other reviewers but the frame has one critical flaw: The wifi antenna is weak and unless you are very near a router it's all worthless.

The folks at EO are trying to work with me to solve the problem but I think it's in the design... I guess I could always hang it in the laundry room where the wifi router is...

A cheap monitor with a glued on frame and a chromecast is less than half the price and provides more functionality.
