Radenso XP Radar & Laser Detector with GPS Lockout and Red Light / Speed Camera Voice Alerts

OK....I don't 'normally' do product review on Amazon as usually I am too busy, don't feel like typing, or just overall the product itself performs as I expect.

Fast forward to this week...I pulled the trigger on the Radenso XP Radar and Laser Detector for my new M3...Now this is kind of a big deal for me, you see, I have been brainwashed in a belief that if it isn't a V1 or an Escort, then it isn't a legitimate product. That is a bold faced lie.

After struggling with false laser alerts in my new BMW constantly with the V1 and Escort 360 Max, I decided either (A) I live without a radar detector as the amount of FALSE alerts I was getting caused me to ignore pretty much any alert that would occur with them...or (B) I try something new.

After doing much research, visiting the forums (Vortex, Bimmerpost, etc) I decided to give the Radenso XP and Pro-M both a try...I actually had some friends that both raved about their XP and the Pro-M's, so I was able to borrow them each for a week each to determine if the Radenso lived up to it's hype as "the quietest radar detector in the world."

Guess what...I am a believer. Both the XP and the Pro-M have been so quiet that I often times had to check to make sure they were powered on...and when an actual threat would occur, the range in both were great...best of all, NOT A SINGLE FALSE LASER ALERT!!!!!

Now, the Pro-M is more expensive, but also has a longer range. But hey, I am not a radar nerd and wasn't analyzing the distance in meters it would detect compared to the XP...I was just thankful that they worked...and as a matter of fact, they both WORKED WELL. The XP was a bit larger in size and doesn't have as long a range as the Pro-M...but I liked the performance of it and the fact that the buttons were a bit larger, more spaced out, and easier for me to navigate with.

I had to make a tough life decision: Do I go with the XP or the Pro-M.

For me, I made the decision mostly on the practicality, functionality, and cost of the unit...and hands down, the XP checked all those boxes. In addition, I decided to order the Blendmount for the Radenso XP and had the unit hard wired into my car from FyneTuned in Cincinnati, who does many Radenso professional installations (including the RC-M with ALP).

In the end, I couldn't be happier with my purchase and give much thanks to the team at Radenso that have developed an amazing product with incredible false alert blocking algorithms which really ensure any false alerts are blocked via the GPS and you don't hear them again...areas in which both my Escort or V1 would always false alert (sometimes even with GPS lockout on the Escort), the Radenso performed flawlessly.

If you are on the fence, do yourself a favor and order the Radenso, you will not regret it.

3.0 out of 5 starsGreat value, but hard to mute
Reviewed in the United States on December 22, 2023
This is a fantastic value! GPS, speed cameras, extreme sensitivity, great price point. Now the big downside: it doesn't stay muted. This is a killer for me because my family hates the alarms! This is my second unit (kudos to Radenso for taking my first unit back), but both had the same problem. I hit mute, then a second or three later the alarm is back. For a known threat (e.g., K band from a speed sign) that I'm approaching at low speed, I end up pulling the power. And yes, I've tried all the settings and worked with Radenso; I'm convinced it's a "feature". So if a persistent loud alarm doesn't bother you, you won't find a better unit!

It’s a great buy. Been using it for a week now. I’m on the highways everyday. It gives perfect warming and works great. The only complaint is the suction on the mount is junk. Doesn’t stay on any window no matter how clean or good you stick it on.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Performance - exceeded my expectations

I've only had this detector in my car for one week and compared to the Escort IX that I had before, this detector is either on par or outperforms it in my opinion. The majority of my driving is in the city so my review is based on that. Ka performance is on par with the Escort IX, with ample warning time. Where it outperforms the IX is on K-band. It is so much quieter in the city than the IX. This detector is also smaller than the IX which I like and the front display does not wash out in the sunlight like the IX. Another advantage, surprisingly was the suction cup mount. I have always struggled with Escort suction cups. Their two-suction cup setup always fell off no matter how much I cleaned the mounting surface, even their sticky cup wasn't much better. The IX always flopped around. Radenso's two-suction cup setup is far superior, holding the detector rock steady and after one week driving on some of the roughest city roads, has maintained stuck to my windshield. All in all, I am very happy with my purchase and pleased with the features and performance for the money. I recommend the Radenso XP to anyone.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, not great (updated)

This is a good radar detector, but maybe not quite as good as it should be considering it's price. It does a very good job filtering BSM radar from other cars, but falses from automatic doors more often than it should. It range is average to maybe slightly better, but not on par with other detectors. If I had to do it again, I'd probably spend the extra $50 (as of today) and get the Uniden R3, which is really as good as you can get today.

UPDATE: I am not changing the star rating, but I am a little more satisfied with the detector than I originally was. It has done a great job of detecting police radar with plenty of notice, and other than a couple of store parking lots where it goes crazy, it does not false often. Also, I was comparing it to a buddy's Uniden R3. His never falses.....ever. Therfore, I was a little harsh on the XP's filtering. However, I found out that he has both X and K turned off. Since Ka is always police, he'll never get a false. Howeve, since some departments in our area do use K, he's insane for running with it off. X is extremely rare, so it won't be much of a problem. Knowing that he is only running Ka, I can't compare the filtering.

So I am pretty happy with the unit, though I still think the R3 is the overall better detector.

UPDATE 2: I'm still not changing the star rating, but I have had some intermittent issue with the GPS connecting. It doesn't happen often, but occasionally it will take a minute or more to connect, and sometimes it will not connect unless I power cycle it. The reason I'm not changing the rating is because I could just have a defective unit (that happens, no biggie). Radenso customer support has been great, and offered for me to send it back for repair or replacement. But, since the issue is so intermittent, I worry that it won't happen while they have it. So 1 star off for intermittent GPS, but 1 star right back on for awesome support (which I chose not to utilize). Also, there was a firmware update yesterday, so maybe that will help.

So after much debate I finally settled on this detector for its price point and options. I will say it is very quiet on the highway. Almost scary how quiet it is and I keep looking to make sure it was even turned on. In the city it is much more chatty. Even using the user lockout points I still have some areas that it will still go off. That's not so much an issue for me because I'm driving the same route everyday and I just stay ready to hit the mute button. I like this detector for myslef and its price point. I'm still figuring I out though. Hopefully I'll like it just as much once I've learned everything about it. It's better than the cobra I used to have by far.
UPDATE 03/19/21:
I've now been running this everyday for awhile. I am still very pleased with it. Although I did pass a cop the other day pointing his radar gun out the window. It scared me a little but I'm going to guess it was laser and I wasn't the one being targeted simply because it's worked well every other time. Plus I run this and the Waze app. Which gives you a lot of heads up. In the above scenario I had already lifted because of the Waze warning. If it was a laser being used then if I'd been the target and speeding it wouldn't have mattered if the detector went off anyways. I'll continue to run it and update again in the future. So far I'm still loving it.

Very satisfied I have had it for 3 years and I feel naked when driving without it being on. Also, undetectable to police. I just remove it from site when approached by the authorities. Great for unseen speed cameras that are used everywhere. Very satisfied with purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Radar

First things first. When I first received the radar detector the sound didn't work. No matter what I did, the detector didn't make a single sound. After two days I contacted Radenso and the customer service was 100% great. I shipped my detector back to them with the prepaid label they emailed me. Two days after they received my defective unit, I received a new detector. This one immediately made noise when plugged in.

I used my old Beltronics (6 or 7 years old) and the Radenso in the car at the same time. My Beltronics would alert full signal from lane departure warning systems and the Radenso didn't make a sound. My Beltronics would pick up electronic doors but the Radenso didn't. The Radenso picked up a Ka band a few moments later my Beltronics picked it up as well.

The user points are good to remove false alerts from signals that it picks up. One hotel on the interstate always alerts to K band when I drive by so I marked it as a user point. Now I don't get the alert from the K band anymore. However, I do get an alert "user point ahead." I wish I could mute these. I just turned off all K band and deleted the user points.

In Charleston, SC there aren't red light cameras so I can't comment on how well this feature works. The suction cups are subpar. I will just purchase some better ones. Overall, great product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent in almost every way

I, too, came from an Escort 8500 that had so many false alarms that I even recently got a minor ticket because I guess I just learned to always ignore the stupid thing unless I was on the highway in the country. Anyway, here is my take:

Pros:
-great false/BSM filtering and allows you adjust the sensitivity of said false alarms; basically you can tell it to only be 40% sensitive to K band so that most electronic doors are ignored. A lot of people might ignore this sensitivity feature, but living in a huge city this is actually really nice. This all translates into a quiet unit that rarely sends false alarms.
-smart dark mode does exactly what it says and keeps the unit display black until an alarm occurs; this is actually a great feature if you listen to music loudly because as soon as the display comes on, it catches your eye without needing to hear it, that being said:
-it's one of the louder units i've tried on the market
-solid mounting bracket/suction cups; my Passport would clank against my windshield
-beautiful OLED display

Cons:
-this is bad engineering to me, but the power plug goes on the DRIVER'S side of the unit; this is super annoying because it just adds more clutter in your line of sight to the road. most units are on the passenger side, and especially if you mount this near your rearview mirror, you can easily hide the cable to the right side behind the mirror. this is a design mistake IMO, but not a deal breaker.
-while it is user friendly in that there is probably a setting for anything you want, it's not super easy to learn--there are no instructions in the box, so you have to go to their website. But their website's instructions are somewhat vague, and after I updated firmware the menu selections weren't even ordered the same as their manual says. You just have to spend a little time with it to understand every setting.
-i still don't really understand why you have the possibility to select a "user point" so luckily in expert mode you can turn that off; i list this as a con because the first few days when i'd try to increase the volume i'd actually set a user point, which turned into many pointless user points during my drive to work. this would make me hear "user point detected" every time i got in range, which was really, really annoying considering i had inadvertently set about 15 user points in a 5 mile radius lol. like i said, once i figured out how, i was able to erase my user points and turn that feature off entirely. i guess maybe you would normally use those if there was a speed trap along your route, or maybe even something non-radar related like maybe there was a really cool restaurant you went to on a very rare drive, and that alert might jog your memory if you ever make the same trip again? anyway...not something i'll ever use, but it's there.

anyway, i'm totally satisfied with my purchase from a standpoint of features. it seems to pick up cops just fine, but time will only tell if it is as good as it seems. so far, no complaints.

4.0 out of 5 stars Accurate, but not entirely quiet

So I bought the Radenso XP about a month ago now. And so far, as long as the squad car has its radar ON, then it will usually pick them up i would say within a half mile or better, there are a lot of hills around my area so that doesn't help the range too much.

**Note: a radar detector cannot detect a radar if it not powered, most squad cars have the systems themselves booted, but the mounted radar on a toggle switch (at least that would be the smart way of having the system set up..) there for you may occassionaly pass by a PD/Sheriff/SPO without it going off, this simply means they either 1. Don't have it powered on, 2. Don't have one equiped.. so travel that line at your own risk knowing the above...

One thing i will note.. granted, this is my first radar detector, but i did do a bit of research into Radenso as well as others prior to dropping $250 on this.. but Radenso coins themselves at being the quietest detector i.e. it will ignore the false positive detections (door sensors, BSM, etc) and while i haven't driven on a major highway to be around a lot of modern vehicles, I have noticed that the K band still picks up quite a few sensors for doors on store fronts (Walgreens/CVS, a few others with automatic doors) often times from a ways off, so it will go off until i finally make a turn facing another direction (while I can mute this, it simply gets a bit annoying, specially when i don't exactly want to turn the K band off just incase... I feel like there may need to be some tweaks to the verification software for it.. not that it will ever truely be perfect) but also a few driveway gates out in the middle of nowhere will set this off..

Overall a great investment i feel, this winter i will be taking a cross country trip, this will certainly make thay trip with me, so I may come back and edit here about my experiences on the open road and various cities.
