So good and so bad

So good and so bad
The good for the Garado GT220 is simply the sound. I’ve owned and returned many earbuds and headphones. I typically like very clean high end sound with natural bass (like B&W speakers). These are by far the best sounding wireless earbuds that I’ve encountered. It’s likely due to the full range 8mm driver in each ear. They simply sound powerful and their output is much stronger than AirPod pros for example. Theses don’t have noise canceling but not sure they need them since they are a tight fit, sort of like sticking your fingers in your ears. That is also part of the secret to their good sound and the reason I don’t find them as comfortable to wear. The technology surrounding these (outside of the sound) simply stinks. The Bluetooth frequently does not connect to my iPhone 11 and when it does, it may only connect one ear or not recognize that it’s already paired and claims to be ready for pairing. I typically have to manually connect them. Another oddity is that each ear shows up in your Bluetooth menu as a separate device. Also when speaking on them, the sound sometimes floats from one ear to the other (likely surrounding the previously mentioned 2 devices showing up in the Bluetooth menu). Now onto the controls. They also stink. Turning up the volume is a bit tricky. Usually it turns up too much or too little. Working out is better than airpod pros since those things simply fall out all the time. These stay put but if you wipe your sweat from your forehead and your arm touches the earbud, then the music is paused. Your touch on the side may or may not unpause the music and I typically find myself using the controls on the phone instead. If you’re the person that puts their AirPods in their pants pocket and pulls them out for phone calls, you won’t like putting these in your pocket (see picture). The case is more than twice the size of the Airpod pro case. Another feature I don’t care for is that they light up while you’re using them. I don’t need my ears blinking blue. And finally, they just feel cheap, the tech, the look (blinking lights), the weight...it just looks like a $30 pair of knock off Chinese earbuds. But they sound fantastic and I’ll keep them for that reason. However, at this price point, you don’t expect half working piecemeal technology. Maybe they’ll send a version 2 to try.

5.0 out of 5 stars 待望のGRADOワイヤレス!
Reviewed in Japan on November 2, 2020
