JBL knocked it out of the park with these. The bass is loud, clean with a little boom but not distorted. The bass doesn’t take anything from the mids and highs. The mids are crisp and accurate. Very clean just like the highs. I can hear very subtle details that I didn’t even know were there. These are very impressive. As is the battery life. I spent 7 hours in the garage with these in, full volume and bass cranked. I got a little over 7 hours, uninterrupted. (Hatebreed, for anyone that’s curious) I had 0 dropouts. The farthest I travelled from my phone was about 20 feet. These stay in ear securely and comfortably. The touch controls are beautiful. They actually work and you don’t have to bury the buds into your ear to make them work. I have not once accidentally activated anything by brushing them on my shoulder. Your actions must be deliberate. The ambient aware and talk through work beautifully. I can’t tell a difference between using either mode though. I can hold a conversation while listening to music at a lower volume, and hear everything as if I didn’t even have the buds in. They have an app for these and you should use it with these. That’s how you achieve all these have to offer and it’s a huge difference. The app works extremely well and is simple. Custom EQ and presets are great. The charging case feels solid. I love that just opening the lid begins the pairing process, so by the time the buds are in your ears, your connected. Look, these are fantastic buds. I prefer them to Air Pods, either model, Sabbit T12/E12, SkullCandy Push, Enacfire F1, and all others. At $99, these are a great value! I’d put these up there with $300 pairs. Even at their standard $150, they are a steal.

Really love these, came from the sabat e12 ultra which I liked a lot but the case died and decided to give these a go. First the sound is outstanding, very clear audio with a lot of detail the audio is as spacious as I've heard on earbuds. Very rich bass that doesn't blow out the audio but very present. The app and eq is fantastic just with the amount of control you get and they respond very well to fine tuning and you can really make these sound however you want. They're reasonably comfortable too, having used the OP bullets wireless 2 and rha ma650 wireless im used to much lighter buds throughout the day so these feel heavy? Comparing them to the sabat e12 they definitely have a chunkier feel in the ear but definitely not uncomfortable, you can just feel their weight. The battery life is kind of tough for me because again comparing them to the sabat I consistently got 7-8 hours of play time and the case had around 30 hours of play time making them a true one week setup which was very nice. These are definitely poorer in the battery department which is a bit of a bummer because the buds are a tiny bit larger than the sabat and dependably get 2 hours less and the case itself gets around 10 less hours and is around 2x the size which is frankly odd especially since the sabat has wireless charging and these don't which for me isn't a deal breaker but it's a bit of a missed opportunity. The ambient mode works very well and pulls a lot of audio from the outside without affecting whatever your listening to and the talk thru mode is okay but if you're outside its pretty much useless while listening to podcasts and barely useable for music but works pretty well indoors. The touch controls are a bit of a mess at first but once you get used to them they're fairly intuitive and very easy to memorize. So I guess to wrap it all up I would say these are a great bridge between something more premium and full featured like the Sony xm3 or the Sennheiser momentum at the high end and the sabat e12 ulta and edifier tws6 being at the 80 dollar mark. Personally having heard the galaxy buds and buds plus I see no reason to buy them over these at the same price and absolutely would recommend.

The JBL LIVE 300TWS earbuds ($99) are impressive. For comfort, they get an A, being light, well-designed, and with multiple eartips and wingtips. You will surely find your size. Unless the comfort is good, nothing else matters. They are handsome as an artifact, but they do stick out of your ears more noticeably than I would have thought.

The case is a largish, smooth pillbox, easily carryable. Front and back look the same, so after peering closely, you must use a fingernail to open it. It’s too slick otherwise. The case is the charger and comes with a USB-C cable. Charging is quick and battery life is in the multiple hours – no problems. There’s no battery-life indicator, so I guess I’m supposed to guess when it’s low.

Removing the earbuds from the case is like picking up half a split pea from the kitchen floor. There’s nothing to grab. A small annoyance. At least you can’t put them into the case wrong. They only fit one way.

Bluetooth pairing with the sound-source device is quick and reliable. This is another feature that has to work right or nothing else matters. However…

It is a pain in the neck to change devices because like nearly all earbuds, they can only pair to one source at a time. To leave my desk and switch to my phone, I have to delete the JBL listing from my pc’s Bluetooth choices. Just selecting “unpair” or "disconnect" is not enough, and turning off Bluetooth is not even enough. Powering off the pc altogether is not enough. I must use the Settings/Bluetooth screen to remove (delete) the JBLs and pretend they never existed. Otherwise, they won’t pair with anything else. I guess that means they’ll never cheat on me.

Then I have to take the earbuds out of my head, put them back in the case, start Bluetooth pairing on the phone, and force the JBLs to start pairing again by pressing the button in the case. The JBLs appear on the phone screen and I select them. It’s a tedious ordeal to move from pc to phone. I think all earbuds are that way. Given the state of the industry, the JBL is no worse than others. Pairing does work if you perform the correct ritualistic dance.

The sound: It’s impressive. The speakers are designed by Harmon. I did not expect this good of a sound from such a small speaker. The experience is crisp and clear, with a velvety black background and good stereo separation. It exceeds my expectations. However…

The music seems to be across the room, not inside my head. These are tiny earbuds, so I it’s hard to complain, but my subjective sense is that the frequency response range is just a little clipped. It feels slightly narrower than the standard 20 to 20K Hz.

On the plus side, that means the bass is not overwhelming as it usually is in Sony products. Plenty of bass comes through without boring a tunnel through the middle of my head. On the high end, I feel a slight deficiency. Plenty of high end is there, but maybe not all the overtones I would like. I could be wrong; this is just an impression. Midrange seems about right. However…

The software app that might let me adjust the sound profile is so terrible that I found it next to useless. I struggled to make the app “connect” to the JBL earbuds. It turns out I had to delete (yes delete) the JBLs from my computer and shut off the computer’s Bluetooth, and wait a half hour before I could make the the app connect to the earbuds. That is really not convenient.

No amount of ritualistic dancing would make this connection work better. I’m not even sure what the problem is. The (android) phone pairs to the headphones readily, so why does an app need to “pair” with anything? “Pairing” is a hardware protocol. I don’t know what the app wants. If you make any changes in the app settings, you don’t know if they had any effect until you exit the app, unpair the phone from the JBLs, restart Bluetooth on the computer, force the JBLs to enter pairing mode, wait for them to appear on the computer screen, and select them. It was basically an unusable procedure.

I could find no help online. The reviews of the JBL app are uniformly negative, no surprise. It has a sound equalizer that lets you move the response curve up or down with a finger, so you could, for example boost the bass way up. But you’d have to be a sound engineer to know what you were doing. There are only two presets: Voice and Music. After you make any change at all, you must dance around the campfire again to reconnect to your sound source and listen to the effect of what you just did.

You can connect to Google Assistant or Alexa with the app if you need voice commands (and if you also have GA or Alexa already installed and working). Supposedly you can customize, or “activate” the touch commands that let you control the volume by swiping the right earbud, but I never could figure out how to do that. After a great deal of fussing, I can still only control volume from my source device. That’s not ideal when I’m driving or typing, and it degrades the value of the JBL earbuds.

It’s likely that you’re supposed to request volume control from your butlers, Alexa, or Google Assistant. However, I don’t keep any electronic staff because of privacy concerns. And they steal from you.

Zoom and phone performance. Aside from an incredible amount of fussing to get the pairing right, performance on zoom and phone calls was satisfactory. I noticed no sound lag but a slight background echo. It was noticeable but tolerable.

In the end, I sent the JBL Live 300 TWS back to Amazon. Thanks, Amazon, for a very generous and easy-to-use return policy. That’s why I buy there: no risk. I replaced the JBLs with a set of Galaxy Buds+, which are the same price and performed a lot better for my needs. The JBLs are a good wireless earbud and could work quite well for a lot of people. For me, the good, but not terrific sound, plus the poor app and the extremely tedious procedure for changing sources, made me decide to look at an alternative.

I bought this pair on October 4th 2021 for $80 and they’re still going strong. I am pleased with them, although they aren’t perfect.

Pro’s- JBL app works, adds value with the different modes and access to EQ settings. I used these a long time without touching the EQ, glad I finally did! The settings are saved too so you don’t have to open the app every-time to activate the EQ. The sound quality beats out the other two cheaper wireless bids I tested - Skullcandy Dimes and something from Earfun which got returned immediately because they were garbage. Sound is warmer and more low end on the JBL’s than regular flat balanced buds, and the bass is the best of the three, especially after you activate the EQ settings in the app. Battery life is decent too I use them for an hour or two at a time, never three or more so these last long enough when they are fully charged. I find these to be comfortable although my wife tried them and disagreed with me. I also replaced the ear tips with SpinFit CP360’s which feel nicer and more durable than the ones you get. I also like the look of these, with the black and gold matching my glasses nicely.

Con’s- Charging them was the trickiest of the bunch, unfortunately. You really have to keep these clean and be careful when placing them in the case that they are connected, you get times where they’re still connected to your phone even after you put them in the case which is annoying. I’m finding the left ear bud more difficult than the right to charge. The Earfun buds were wireless charging and the Skullcandy had the most satisfying snap to closing the case. The battery life is decent but because of how finicky the JBL’s are fitting properly in the case you might not be getting consistent, full charges. Plus you may find one ear dying first like me and my left ear bud. Also you have to charge the buds via the case first, then charge the case in that order. Plugging them into the case and charging the case at the same time will yield a fully charged case but your buds still need charging. Finally I find them to be not as loud as I’d like, and you’re going to find cleaner and clearer sounded buds, but either lacking the bass, the app, the build quality, or the price (on sale) of these. Tough to get it all for $80 or less CDN. The skullcandy dimes are my favourite budget buds, and these are pretty good midrange buds.

Overall I’d give them a 7.5 out of 10. If the charging wasn’t so finicky, had wireless charging, and were a little louder or clearer sounding then obviously it would have scored higher. Having used them for almost a year and a half at the time of this review, I definitely feel like I got my money’s worth, and have no plans to upgrade these. I’ll use them until they die. Thanks for reading my review!
