Best you can get in its class
Bought this laptop and use it for around a week now, love it. If you are looking for a thin and light laptop with long battery time then this is the right one for you. Lightest in its class and pretty good design overall, reasonable price as well.I3 processor is weak but good enough for me as use for surfing the net etc, less power consumption might be good sometimes; another thing is the fan noise is quite loud other than that nothing worth to complain.I upgraded the machine to 6Gb of ram and here are the scores for win7 experience index for you to consider: CPU 5.2 Ram 7.1 Graphics 5.3 Gaming graphics 6.2 Hard disk 6.6Good job toshiba and good luck all.

I have to admit, I was afraid to buy this computer because of all of the reviews that mention broken screens. As I continued to research ultrabooks, though, it became quickly apparent that this was the best priced ultrabook around and you cannot beat the value. I've had it for about a week now, and I am happy to report no broken screen yet. Just to be safe, I did purchase a 3 year warranty from SquareTrade for an extra $129 at check-out though. If the reviews on broken screens are stopping you, take that into consideration. Even adding the SquareTrade warranty, this thing is cheaper than just about any ultrabook that you can find.

I've been spoiled with my last laptop which had a 96wH battery on it and I had the settings tweaked to provide about a 9 hour life. I was a little concerned when this one arrived and the first thing that I noticed was that the battery was about half the size -- just 47.5wH. Making the same tweaks, though, I have the laptop running at an average of just 6.5W when idle, meaning that I am getting about an 7-8 hour battery life out of it if I stick to basic word processing and internet surfing -- AWESOME. I believe that can be attributed to the processor, designed to run at ultra-low power. I've never gotten any other laptop to run at such low wattage.

Of course, the biggest advantage of the ultrabook is the size. This thing is super-lightweight but doesn't feel cheap or flimsy. The casing has a classy brushed-aluminum look that's beautiful. And I am convinced that once you have an ultrabook, you'll never go back to a regular laptop -- it is amazing to carry around something so light. My laptop case loaded with the computer and power cords is just a couple pounds, and you really notice the difference when you go and pick up your old computer and realize just how heavy those things were. If you travel or otherwise have to carry a laptop around constantly, an ultrabook should be in your future.

I am a huge fan of Toshiba in general, and this is my third laptop I have purchased from them. So far, I love the thing. I will update my review if necessary as I continue to break this thing in (particularly if I have a problem with a cracked screen).

I buy 1-3 laptops per year for my research, which includes work at sites all over the world. Of the 45+ laptops that I have purchased for our research sites over the years, this is the only one that didn't last at least 5 years. Some of the sites where I work have limited electricity, power surges, high humidity, user errors, and other poor conditions for electronics, yet I have had few problems with the laptops enduring field conditions. This one, while it lasted, was a great little computer. Fast, traveled well, very light, long battery life, and functional. But the hard drive died tonight, after several strange crashes. I had excellent anti-virus software on this computer too. I like the Toshiba product, but I'm not sure I want to buy from them again - it's not easy for me to return these or to get them to tech support, so I want something I can depend on. Perhaps switch back to Dell??

I ordered this laptop a week ago. It's very sleek, very light, has all the ports one needs. Two days ago though, the network adapter began acting up. I kept getting disconnected from the internet - a problem I haven't had with my two other computers, one being a toshiba i5 laptop. This ultrabook kept dropping the internet connection and I've had to disconnect and reconnect so many times it started to really give me problems as I was in the process of doing research for an article I was writing. I've had to return it. Ordered a regular Portege; haven't received it yet. I'm just hoping I don't encounter the same problems as I've had with this ultrabook. I really wanted to like it and keep it, but the constant disconnection was just too much for me, even for a really nice looking computer. Maybe I just got a lemon, but I don't want to risk receiving another one. So back this one goes.

It is as thin and as light as many mentioned. I believe fan noise issue have been resolved by Toshiba (BIOS update).
Screen is bright. Speed is fine for browsing, Skype, youtube (plays fine 720p resolution).

Problems: screen is flimsy. In fact, so flimsy that it cannot hold my Logitech C920 webcam after certain lid angle.
Built-in webcam video quality is not acceptable in low light.

Another thing I did not see owners mentioned in their reviews is screen flickering. Remember those early days when CRT monitors flicker? Guess what: it's back with Toshiba. The brighter the screen, the less flickering there is. I guess Toshiba adjusts screen brightness by strobing LED back light. Not a good idea. This is the only LCD screen my eyes get tired quickly from.
