- Appearance & Keyboard:
The laptop looks and feels quite small--as mentioned, so it's a typical win for someone who travels and moves a lot while having such sexy looks and beautiful appearance. The back of the laptop is navy blue and the interior is a mix of a black frame around the screen, and a silver body (around keyboard) with black bottom. The keyboard is nicely fitting and very-well spaced, very comfortable to type while laying your hands on.
- Screen
The screen is of 11.6" which is quite good for me as I do not like big laptops. The screen is of a very good, and unexpected, quality that makes all kinds of texts and videos very finely readable and watchable. Colors display accurately and glare is very minimal indoor, while somehow average outdoor...still pretty much readable after all.
- Storage
The laptop comes with 16GB SSD (internal storage) and a 100GB of free Google Drive online storage for 2 years, which I believe is very well if you are not aiming for much usage, and if your work is mostly online-focused.
- Performance
If your casual usage depends on using software for writing projects, watching online movies, browsing the web and social networks, checking email or light online web development, then C201 will not disappoint at all! With such a light processor and just 2GB of RAM, it has been blazing fast for 90% of the time. While most of your usage will depend on Chrome Browser, I have never had a problem in having multiple tabs open at the same time (each with a different mid-to-heavy usage website). So, basically if your usage is quite light to medium, this laptop will never disappoint.
- Battery Life
Here comes the amazing part--with full charge and say moderate usage (like checking Facebook, writing a couple of materials and browsing the web and emails), you could easily snatch full 9-11 hours of usage. If your usage is not continuous on daily basis, you could even get multiple days out of it. If your usage tends to be heavier, such as watching videos, online gaming and heavy web development, usage could run between continuous 6-7 hours...still not a bad combination at all.
- Input & Output
On the right side of the laptop, there are two USB 3.0 slots, and on the left side, there is the charging slot, memory card reader, HDMI plug, and a headphone jack. Easy-reaching and simple.
- Front Camera
The laptop has got a front camera on the upper side of the screen. The camera is somehow of low quality and is barely good in well-lit conditions, while heavily suffers in low light conditions. Be happy to use it, but don't expect too much.
- Speakers
Another low point is the speakers. Their location is quite strange--at the bottom of the laptop, so they are always covered when the laptop sits on your legs or at a table. Apart from the location of the speakers, their sound is obviously low and sometimes even unheard. So, a personal advice is to get a Bluetooth or wired headphones and always use them in case you're listening to music or watching a video.
- Applications
Applications on Chrome OS simply consist of Chrome extensions. They are perfectly downloadable as applications in the built-in app tray, but the majority of them need internet connection to operate. A lot of applications though tend to have an offline functionality, in which they can be used without an internet connection.
Last words, this is a laptop that is worth every penny if you're comfortable enough with the new ecosystem and aware enough of the positives, negatives and limitations of the device.

Last words, this is a laptop that is worth every penny if you're comfortable enough with the new ecosystem and aware enough of the positives, negatives and limitations of the device.
I compared this to the Toshiba Chromebook 2 and the Acer Chromebook 11, but the Asus was the lightest by far and was reported to have the best build quality in addition to being the second cheapest. Since price and weight were my two primary wants, this is the way I went. I also purposely chose the 2GB version to keep the price as low as possible and, frankly, to answer the question for myself "Just how good can a $159 laptop be?"
The answer is, pretty darn good. The build quality on this machine is excellent. It feels very solid, not cheaply made at all. The matte blue cover is very attractive and I don't find it as much of a fingerprint magnet as other reviewers have reported. The keyboard is very comfortable to type on and not enough smaller than my Macbook keyboard that my fingers had any trouble adjusting immediately. The hinge feels solid as well. And, despite being fanless, I've never felt it become warm enough to notice.
One of the shining features is the touchpad. I did not expect much from the touchpad on a laptop at this price, and I was extremely surprised. The well-sized touchpad has a great, smooth surface. Multi-touch gestures and scrolling just work. The only complaint I have about it, and one of the few about the machine overall, is that when it is closed, gripping it by the front edge makes the touchpad click. It doesn't take an unreasonable amount of force; just picking it up gently will do it. This doesn't actually affect anything since the notebook is closed and in sleep mode, but it does make it feel a tiny bit shoddy.
The only area where this Chromebook doesn't really shine is the display. It's by no means bad, but the viewing angle leaves much to be desired and colors typically look washed-out. It is still perfectly clear and I have browsed the web and watched a few movies on it and found it to be perfectly competent, but it's not going to win any awards. If you're coming from a Macbook or Pixel, you're going to notice.
In terms of speed/performance, it's darn decent. I tried to find consensus among reviews regarding ARM/x86 in Chromebooks and how much RAM you really need, but it's not a straightforward answer. I didn't buy this for crouton/Linux so that wasn't a factor in my decision. The quad-core Rockchip in this is roughly as fast as the lower-end Celeron chips in comparably-priced Chromebooks, and helps keep power usage and heat to a minimum. The most helpful thing I can tell you is that it just feels snappy. I usually run with two accounts logged in and around 6 tabs, and rarely experience any slowdowns worth mentioning. Again, it's no Macbook, but it's very impressive for a machine at this price point. I also have not found the memory to be too little. Peeking at the task manager shows that Chrome OS fills the 2GB very quickly, but the OS also intelligently compresses in memory when necessary and will freeze background tabs when it has to. If your aim is to keep cost as low as possible, I don't think the 2GB is a problem. I will probably at some point enable a swap file, but haven't done so yet.
Last but not least, I want to talk about battery. The battery life on this device is RIDICULOUS. The stated runtime is 13 hours and I don't doubt it. I've never run through the whole battery in one session so it's tough to give you my own numbers, but suffice to say it is excellent. In my current session, for example, I have been browsing for a few hours, watched one and a half movies on a Chromecast via the Chromebook, and finished the second movie on the screen. I'm at 60% power, which the OS estimates to be almost 10 hours.
If you step back and remember the product landscape of even a few years ago, it's preposterous that you can buy a $159 laptop that's even halfway decent. Now that you can, this might be the best of the bunch.
The real kicker was when they quoted me to fix the unit. ASUS quoted me $280 to fix the motherboard and keyboard, which is $120 more than it would cost me to just buy a new unit. That is absolutely ridiculous. If I would have known that they weren't going to honor the warranty, I would have just saved the $20+ in shipping to California and trashed the unit. Maybe I'll be able to sell the charger once they return the unit since as other people say, buying a new charger is almost more than buying a new chromebook. I had planned on buying my family chromebooks for the holidays, but I most certainly won't be buying ASUS chromebooks, or any ASUS products again for that matter.
