    4 Stars
ok-ish build quality, wanky msi software, decent keyboard, good battery life, thermal throttled.
All good, with some tweaking 7h of word processing usage is achievable. However after 6 months, just after the warranty ends, the green LED on some of the keys died. I'm not an RGB lover, but buying a $1600 only for the LED to die after several months is not a good trade. Many users also reported similar problem.

It's hard to imagine a better laptop. The size, weight, quietness, speed, battery life, everything is here. It's the laptop we've been dreaming about for a decade.

You're not going to find this powerful of a GPU or CPU in a form factor this small anywhere else. The screen is huge compared to other laptops this size and weight, beautiful too. Great keyboard as well. The 8 hour battery life they advertise is a bit of a stretch. You'll get a solid 2 hours for sure at normal use, even running some 3D applications. With more of the power saving features on, you'll get significantly longer (though good luck seeing the screen at the dimmest setting). Even so, from my research it seems like that's a lot more than you're going to get out of any other laptop this size.

I've been using it for gaming, general web stuff, and game development in Unreal Engine. Next time I edit video I'm going to use this, since the i7 will be better than the i5 in my desktop. It's aced everything I've thrown at it, with the exception of Unreal Engine feeling a little cramped on a 15 inch monitor.

I made the mistake of only getting a 256 gig hard drive, and I almost filled it up immediately (Dang it Destiny 2, why you gotta be 60 gigs). It has a second M.2 hard drive slot, but to access it you have to disassemble literally everything (I had to laugh when the teardown video showed how to take out the wifi card in order to read the hard drive slot). A bummer, but make the right choice and get at least 512 gigs and you won't have to worry about it.

The keyboard feels great, and SteelSeries has finally nailed the backlighting well enough that it's actually nice to look at (none of those stupid flashing rainbows). The sound is surprisingly good for such small speakers, though you'll still want a headset or some external ones for any serious listening.

It's pretty close to perfect for what it is. You might be able to find a faster laptop that weighs twice as much, or a bigger screen that doesn't fit in your bag, or a touch screen on a Surface that can't run your games, but if you're looking for a beastly and portable laptop that last forever and doesn't burn your legs off despite having two jet engines for fans, this is purchase. I do wish it had a touch screen though. :)

EDIT: Oh, two tips. When you get it, you have to plug it in before it will power up. Then reinstall windows via the recovery screen to get rid of norton and the rest of the bloat.

Initially I was happy with the laptop, it was thin, light, and looked very nice. I originally purchased the laptop for $1,999.99, so this is not a cheap laptop but I figured from a reputable company like MSI I should be fine. I was wrong.

Within a week i started noticing serious thermal throttling under regular loads (games included Destiny 2, Overwatch, Call of Duty Black Ops 4) the games varied greatly in difficulty to run but no matter what there was significant thermal throttling. Please note I was using a laptop cooling pad underneath the laptop at all times and was in a cold room. Performance remained reasonable throughtout though.

The final straw didnt take long, a week later I was preparing to go on a trip and went to pick up the laptop, and suddenly the speakers let out a continuous high screech. Past this point the laptop speakers quality was unusable letting out a high pitch screech at all times with audio. I attempted a driver did and this did not work, and if external speakers were plugged in this issue went away. I inspected the laptop and found also that the track pad was off as Well, the right side seemed to press way too far into the laptop and i believe it may have contributed to the failure. Please note: outside of putting the laptop on my desk for the first time, it DID NOT MOVE until i was preparing to travel.

I have since returned the laptop and purchased an HP Omen (overall signicantly better in every way at the small cost of size and weight). Be warned, slim and light may not be a good thing if it compromises the build quality.

The computer itself runs smoothly and runs every game at 60 fps with great graphics. However this computer has constant problems with the software and drivers. I have had a Windows Pc for almost all my life and never have I had more problems with software and drivers than in the 5 months I have had this computer. First 2 months ago my wireless driver all of a sudden stopped working and apparently this is a common problem with MSI GS65 users. Since two weeks ago I began to have issues trying to go into certain websites. This problem however is not just in websites its also on any online game I have, The problem is usually "Hmmm. cant reach this page", "This site cant be reached". I cannot login to any single service and basically I cannot use the internet at all. I have literally tried every single solution on the internet and nothing works. A total reset worked for about a week than it happened again except this time a total reset did not solve the issue. I deleted all previous updates and still nothing. The software issues the MSi65 has are astonishing. Do not get me wrong the actual computer hardware is amazing and runs smoothly but with so many underlying software issues the computer becomes unusable after some random issue that has never happened to me after my many many years of using a Windows PC.

As far as portable gaming laptops go this one takes the cake. Its simple, powerful, and portable. Everything a laptop should be. The one thing I didn't like was the limited storage the factory laptop gets. I got the gtx1070 with 256g of storage and that just wasn't a lot. I do understand that they have to cut corners somewhere to keep the price down but it would be nice to have a way to upgrade. Otherwise the laptop exceeds all expectations. No throttling and the fans aren't too noisy, plus the keys on the keyboard are very smooth. I really like the feel of the hardware. I don't like the speakers on the bottom but they are very loud and do a good job. The 144hz screen is phenomenal I think that is the big selling point for this laptop. Overall 4.5/5 stars.
