From the manufacturer

Logitech G502 Proteus Spectrum RGB Tunable Gaming Mouse

The high performance, premium build quality, advanced gaming features and incredible comfort of G502 combine for a truly exceptional and highly customizable gaming experience.

Advanced Optical Sensor

G502 comes equipped with the PMW3366 optical sensor with zero acceleration, smoothing, or filtering across the entire DPI range (200-12,000DPI). That means you get exceptional tracking accuracy and consistent responsiveness no matter what sensitivity you set the mouse to.

On-the-Fly DPI

Add even more control to your game with quick DPI shifting from low to high sensitivity. Use the thumb button to transition between headshot-precise low-sensitivity targeting to lightning-fast high-DPI maneuvers. Cycle up and down through as many as five DPI settings with a click. Three DPI indicator lights tell you which setting you are on. Program these DPI settings with Logitech Gaming Software (LGS) or use the default settings that work great out-of-the-box.

Dual-Mode Hyper-Fast Scroll Wheel

Unlock the scroll wheel for hyper-fast continuous scrolling to spin quickly through long pages, or lock it down for single click precision scrolling. The weighty, metal wheel delivers confident, smooth and satisfying control for either mode.

Tune to Your Specs

A wide variety of weight and balancing configurations, custom RGB lighting, 11 programmable buttons, on-the-fly DPI shift settings, desk surface tuning and more. Personalize G502 for your gaming setup and style with Logitech Gaming Software.

Game Ready Details

In addition to the core performance and personalization features, many details were thoughtfully designed: Look for primary buttons rated to 20 million clicks with mechanical microswitches, braided cable with hook and loop cable tie, rubberized grips, magnetic weight-cavity door, and more.

    First Year Review
I have always been a Logitech fan. They have been my go to for my mouse and keyboards since I built my first computer in 2008 and before. This is my fourth mouse from them (MX512, G9, and G9x being the three prior) so I might reference them in this review.tl;dr- Scroll wheel isn't balanced, ruining free scroll.- Wear and tear seems to be happening faster than my previous mice.- I have no doubts this mouse will last me at least 5 years. It is a quality product, just not as quality as previous Logitech mice I've owned. The Bad:When I first got this mouse there was one thing that annoyed me to no end and it has not changed. The mouse wheel is not balanced well at all. Prior to this mouse, if it was an option, I always let my scroll wheel be free. I could scroll quickly and stop on a dime with my G9/x mice. The fact that the button to swap between free scroll and non was on the bottom of those mice was not a problem as I never used it. With this mouse I'm happy it's on top, as I have to continuously swap between the modes. If you scroll down a paper in Word or a web page and stop, it seems a good 80% of the time the wheel will move a little when you lift your finger. This translates to the page often moving down 1/4th a page. If you're trying to read something that is infuriating. The right side of the scroll wheel has worn down very quickly. (see picture). This is where I tend to rest my middle finger as I use that for both scrolling and the right click. If you do the same be warned. For reference, I have a friend who also has this mouse and his has not done this; despite owning it longer. He uses the three fingered approach. Looking back my G9x has a similar patina to it in the same spot, but the wear is noticeably less even after using it for 7 years. The first foot of the cable on the mouse side is slightly starting to fray from rubbing on the side of my desk. Once again comparing this to my G9x, it is noticeably worse. If anything this is what is going to kill this mouse. I still see it holding up for a good five years. I just expected better from Logitech. The Neutral:Coming from a G9x, a rather small mouse in comparison, I've had to adjust from more of a claw grip to a palm grip. This isn't a big deal. I don't have the largest hands and if you wanted to claw grip the mouse buttons do extend into the mouse a good distance and are still usable without any extra force. The side buttons are oriented more for a palm grip in my opinion. On the note of the side buttons, specifically the sniper button, it was fun for the first couple of weeks and I haven't used it since. I use to use a very high DPI but have since moved down to 800. Which essentially negates the use of the sniper button. When I did use it, I found that the extra grip I had to put on the mouse to keep the button down messed with my aim. I'm sure you'd get use to it, but I find this button worthless for what it is marketed as.The Good:This mouse has what I come to expect from a good Logitech gaming mouse. Many of the features I love from the G9x are still here. I enjoy being able to customize the weight of the mouse, there are a number of programmable buttons, easily accessed DPI changing on the fly, and I can see this mouse lasting me a reasonable time for what I paid for it. I haven't delved too far into the software. Sadly my keyboard is older (G110) so I can't color coordinate my mouse and keyboard. I don't really mind as RGB isn't really a big deal for me.Conclusion:In recent years there have been many gaming mice that have similar features to this one. I chose it because Logitech hasn't done me wrong yet. This may be the mouse that makes me look else where. That hinges on one factor though, how long the cable holds. It seems to be fraying at an alarming rate. My G9x does have one small area that is worse, but for the most part that cable is a lot better and I used it daily for a little over 7 years. The only reason I purchased a new mouse was the buttons on that one were going. My G9 and MX512 have never had issues. Though they were relegated to secondary mice after 2-3 years of daily use each.

Reviewed in Canada on May 25, 2016
I bought the G502 Proteus Core, the predecessor to this mouse, however, the only difference was the addition of full RGB lighting to the Proteus Spectrum. Therefore, I am reviewing the mouse as a combined product due to the fact that they are otherwise indistinguishable.

This mouse is, quite literally, the best of the best when it comes to gaming mice. Most gaming mice are quite similar in their features. The G502 has a lot of these common features: many buttons, adjustable weight, and tunable software. However, where the G502 shines is how WELL it does all of these things.

    PROS:
-The button layout is just about perfect - not too many, and not placed in hard-to-reach positions. All of the buttons can be reached with minimal movement, and can be pressed firmly and accurately. A nice thing about them is that they're not all set up for just your thumb to press, like other mice. Three of the buttons are set up for your thumb, while two more are for your index finger, and one more for your middle finger. This way, you have the option to press more than one extra button at the same time. It also makes the button settings easier to remember, by remembering them by finger, not just a grid of buttons on the side like other gaming mice.

-The adjustable weight is easy to add and remove.

-The tunable software is packed with features and easy to use. Different profiles can be set up for different programs and games, the pointer speed and precision can be finely tuned, and preset levels can be set that can be switched to with the press of a button. Even pointer settings per game profile can be made - so you can, for example, set your mouse to be more sensitive in a twitch shooter game like Call of Duty, and less sensitive for a game with lots of menus like World of Warcraft. The LEDs can be adjusted, and with the Proteus Spectrum, the colors can also be adjusted. The mouse has the option to adjust the tracking and accuracy for different surfaces, like hard or soft mouse pads, or mouse pads that are grippier than others. Finally, the software also tracks your keypresses and input analysis. I really don't know why you would use this, but it is kinda cool to have.

-The thumb and pinky-side grips are both comfortable and grip very well. I've never lost my grip on the mouse, even during intense twitch gaming sessions.

-The G502 has the signature Logitech locking/unlocking scroll wheel that free-spins for quickly scrolling to the bottom of a large document. I love this feature and I hate mice without it now.

-The mouse has a braided USB cable that's nice and long. Just another thing to add to the list of nice extra features.

-The G502 has one other cool feature that I find handy - the ability to have profiles saved directly to the mouse. When I travel and take my gaming laptop with me, it's handy to just transfer the profiles for the games I know I will be playing onto my mouse, and then not have to worry about having different keybinds when I'm gaming at my destination. This is a really nice feature.

CONS: Very minimal, and this doesn't detract from my rating simply because this is how the mouse is supposed to perform, and in fact what it was designed to be like. But the mouse IS a little small for my personal preference. I am a palm gripper by nature of my large hands, and the G502 is in-between a finger and palm grip. It feels only a little bit small for a full-on palm grip. I quickly adjusted to it after a few sessions, but just be aware that it may be something new for you to get used to if you are a palm gripper. Does not detract in any way from the beautiful product that is this mouse, it's just possibly something new for some people.

    OVERALL:
Seriously, if you're considering a gaming mouse and you're still reading this review, just buy it and try it out. The price may seem a little steep at first, but you're getting such a premium product for your dollars that it really is worth it. It's quality, and durable. I've had mine for about a year and it's one of the best gaming peripherals I've ever used. Worth every penny.

I bought this product myself and it was not sent to me for review. No one is paying me for this review.
