Final Cut Pro X 10.4 - Apple Pro Training Series: Professional Post-Production 1st Edition, Kindle Edition
The Apple-Certified Way to Learn
This fully updated Apple-certified guide presents a real-world workflow from raw media to finished project to demonstrate the features of Final Cut Pro X 10.4 and the practical techniques you will use in editing projects. Using professionally acquired media, you’ll utilize the same tools and editing techniques used by editors worldwide in this revolutionary editing software. Renowned editor and master trainer Brendan Boykin starts with basic video editing techniques and takes you all the way through Final Cut Pro’s powerful features.
The lessons start as real world as it gets—with an empty application. After downloading the media files, you will be guided through creating a project from scratch to finished draft. The basic workflow and tools are covered in Lessons 1 through 4 where you create a rough cut. The real-world workflow continues through the remaining lessons as you take the basic project and enhance it with a dive into more robust features including the newest Final Cut Pro X 10.4 tools for 360° editing, precision color grading, and more.
• Downloadable lesson and media files to work sequentially through exercises for hours of hands-on training.
• Focused lessons teach concepts and take students step by step through professional, real-world editing scenarios to create a final project.
• Chapter review questions summarize what students learn to prepare them for the Apple certification exam.
• Web Edition provides full text of the book available online with revised content for significant software updates.

About the author
My background is in television news and corporate video. In TV newsland, I've been an editor, videographer, director/technical director, and live-truck operator. After a few years in news, I moved into corporate video, where I wore the hats of producer, director, videographer, editor, technical support, and trainer. I have been through the transitions from analog tape formats to whichever digital format flavor-of-the-day is current. And along with those format transitions has been the journey from linear editing to non-linear editing, including all versions of Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Pro X.
I've been using Final Cut Pro since version 1. I learned about the Apple certification program in 2002. As I had already written short, Final Cut Pro training guides for a couple of clients, as well as done silo-installations for those clients, I jumped on board and became an Apple Certified Trainer with Final Cut Pro 3. In 2006, Peachpit Press contracted me to be a technical reviewer for the Apple Pro Training Series books. Eight years later, I’ve served as technical reviewer, technical editor, contributing writer, co-author, and author of 28 books in the APTS and ATS series.
When not doing video, providing training or authoring materials, I’m usually exploring Colorado in my Jeep®, camping, or learning something new about Amateur Radio. Combining all three doesn't happen often enough.
Customer reviews
Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

I ws very impressed at the speed at which Amazon delivered here to Australia, and the book arrived in excellent condition ( and this applies to other purchases )
At a minimum the publisher should provide a clean file for the beginning of each chapter. The tutorials are far too dependent on each other and any mistake early in the chapter makes the rest of the chapter completely unusable.
There are subtleties about how the checkpoints work that aren't apparent to the novice user. Requiring the novice user to master an advanced feature while he/she is she is still learning the basics is not a good way to teach. Instead of using checkpoints it would be so much better to have a complete standalone FinalCut file for each lesson. Almost impossible to recover the correct system state.

I have seen a few reviews claiming that the book is not compatible with the 10.5 version of Final Cut. This is simply not true: everything in the manual works as it should in the latest version of Final Cut.
You need to be very careful that you follow the instructions, and this requires concentration. There are a few parts of the book that I did incorrectly the first time round but only realised on a second run-through. To some extent, this is probably a genuine problem with the book and not just the end-user. At times the language is too turgid and off-putting, but thankfully this is not often the case. I also think the book could have been better edited. Some chapters are soooooooooo long - long to the extent that you start to lose your motivation despite the fact that the content is great - while other chapters are surprisingly short.
Overall, I learned so much about Final Cut from this book and I'm very grateful to the author for putting together an engaging and informative manual.
