The game is simple enough to learn how to play, I've been able to teach basically anyone to play it so far. While being easy to play there is a certain level of strategy that must be used while playing this game. Knowing just when to discard a trait card or when to drop down your event could be the determining factor of 1st or 2nd place.
The components are well made, and quite fun to mess around with as you think out your next turn. From what I've seen the dice are different per game (unsurprisingly wouldn't expect them to all be the exact same due to the patterns.) Something I would like to have seen with the death dice is as the numbers on the die go up the amount of red specs go up to just give that feeling of increased lethality but no big deal honestly there.
While I have seen some players complain about lack of a cure mechanic, I feel that the game is better without it at least for the time being. As it is event cards work well enough to mess with the other players, a cure mechanic I feel would just make it so there was a possibility for no one to win depending of course on how it would to work. Maybe given time Ndemic will produce a expansion for this game allowing non kickstarter backers to go up to 5 players and give us new modes that could include that Cure mechanic for thoses players who feel they have mastered the base game and would like an added challenge.
Pros: Once learned, the game is straightforward and enjoyable. It can be fast or slow, depending on how one wants to play, and the rules allow for this. Though complex, the gameplay is streamlined, and even with a 10 year old participating, we still got through a game quickly.
Overall, well worth the money, and a great gift.
One of the best game in my collection so far. It starts wonderful and easy to get into while rules are simple and good explained. Easy to start, easy to explain to friends. The material it all made of is just perfect(no really, I haven't seen a game of this quality like..... never!). So the first impression is "not that hard, beautiful, well done and I love the setting"..... but then your realise how complex the game really is. There are some many tweaks to your tactic you can\should do on the go, random is just enough and still cannot ruin your strategy(if it's good enough). So many things to keep in mind and consider.... you'd better always find a good balance in how you wipe out cities and expand over new territories..... and what're your opponents are after.
Thanks to all the designers, developers and all who brought this wonderful game to life!

It is really fun debating what to evolve and when to use an event card. So much nuance, great game and surprisingly intuitive to pick up.
