I will say that there is a noticeable line where two halves of the cylinder meet, not sure why they mold them that way but it does not appear to affect the utility and you can't feel it either when using it.
This roller is what I'd call medium firm. It's not super soft where you'll sink right through it nor is it so hard that it has no give. It's dense enough that if you press hard enough you can indent it with your thumb/finger but not much.
I have followed some basic "roll out" recovery videos to learn the basic moves but generally just explored what felt best for my body. I use this regularly to crack my back after evening yoga, just lay down with the roller about shoulder/shoulder blade height with your hands laced behind your head and just exhale and roll up and it releases so much tension.
I think this has just the right amount of firmness and texture for the price. Not too overwhelming for a beginner either. Would recommend.
