Leaving a review for this device feels like writing a user review for "Google" or something (because there aren't many big players in this space). I guess the main reason why I took 5mins to write this is for the person who is using a basic bike computer and is unsure about whether or not they should upgrade to a full function device.I upgraded to the wahoo from a Coospo BC 107 in my 5th month of cycling because I was starting a training program and i needed something with more functionality than what the $40 coospo offered. This device is my partner in training. I build my workout in training peaks and then it syncs with my wahoo elemnt. I can do the workout i've built outside or indoors on my wahoo kickr. The elemnt works very well with the kickr. The user interface is relatively simple. The battery life is great. It tells me when batteries on my devices (power meter, spedometer etc) need to be charged/changed.I don't use the GPS often, but it just works. I've never had a problem with turning the device on and it not being able to find a signal (this has happened several times with my coospo). I've built a few routes using strava and synced them onto the device. works seamelssly. I do not like how much the device beeps at you when you go off-route. It is a useful feature when i'm in an unfamiliar place with open roads, but VERY annoying when i'm riding in a city that is a grid like nyc. Riding with GPS is the exception for me, however. One cool thing about riding a route is that the Wahoo will yell at you to let you know that a climb is coming and then tell you about the climb (grade, distance etc etc - it is a great way to help you conserve energy when you're going on climbs in unfamiliar places).I opted to get a wahoo after reading in several places that Garmin doesn't support its devices well. I opted to not get a hammerhead karoo because of the price point

This GPS cycling computer was exactly what I was looking for to use on my MTB. The display is easy to read and simple to use. The GPS is accurate and the feature to return to your starting point is great for when I get lost out in the woods. Yes, I sometimes get lost out on the trails and this computer has brought be back to my vehicle safely every time.

The battery lasts quite a long time, I've never ran out of juice on it.
It mounts perfectly and has an auto-stop/start feature that tracks when I stop for a break. It also sends my data to Strava so I can track my rides easily. It was a great price too!

I've been through two Garmin 500's. I considered the Garmin 530, but I'm very glad that I got this one. It's the previous model and at the time was on sale at almost half price.

Great screen. Larger and much more readable than the 500. Has basic map capabilities. Automatically uploads when on wireless. It relies on the phone for many controls, but that worked well, although it took some hunting around to find the settings I wanted to change.

It does not have a touch screen, but the large buttons below the screen and on the sides are easy to use.

    There are a few negatives.
    - No autostart, although it has auto pause and resume
    - No option (at least I haven't found it) to auto rotate through the screens
    - compass only shows on the map screen.

The standard mount works very well, but on the first try the attachment ring seemed too small for my bars, which are carbon but not super wide, so I tried the other, less desirable stem mount, which has a piece that attached to the unit. I wasn't happy with that, so I wanted to try again with the bar mount. But I couldn.t get that attached piece off. It wouldn't twist off. Finally I resorted to a pair of pliers after a little Googling, and it came right off. I hadn't wanted to use a lot of force in fear of breaking something, but that worked fine, and I eventually got the bar mount attached.

The newer version, I gather, has a touch screen, but the controls on the unit I got work just fine and will probably be better with winter gloves.

This is my second Wahoo ELEMNT Roam. The first one had long lasting issues and finally crapped out. I decided to replace it with a new one. The new one had charging issues. I returned it. You might ask why replace it again? I have a half dozen mounts and other accessories compatible with the Roam. So I have a third which also has similar issues among them sluggish operation and charging inconsistencies. This thing gets updates almost every day. I can imagine what would happen without them. It seems it operates on the slimmest of margins. Pretty risky purchase in my opinion.

So I was in regular contact with support. Email, wait for a return email, respond wait for return etc etc. With each passing day a solution seemed further away. Well to my surprise one of the updates cured my charging problem. I’m happy. Impressed that support was able to solve the issue. I’m also happy about compatibility with other devices such as heart rate monitor, rear radar, power meter and cadence all from different manufacturers. I added two stars.
I have finally added the fifth star. It seems that I was not using the ELEMNT charging cable which I found is proprietary. Other charging cables won’t charge properly. Oh and another positive. The waterproof construction is solid. I left the Roam in my cycling shorts pocket for a full cycle in the washing machine and it came out working like a charm and sparkling clean!

5.0 out of 5 stars Kein Touchscreen! Ein Nachteil? Auf keinen Fall!!! Es ist ein Vorteil!
Reviewed in Germany on December 29, 2020
    Style: Bike ComputerVerified Purchase
