The battery life is excellent. I took it for a long ride today and I don't think the battery level changed noticeably. With my prior head unit, I had to recharge after every long ride.
The hardware of Rider 420 is nicely built. The unit feels pretty sturdy. Screen is sharp and easy to read. It's simple to keep the back light on in low light situations. This head unit captures satellite signals very quickly and accurately. It connects quickly with other devices (I connected this with Assioma pedal power meter).
The unit also syncs easily with 3rd party apps (I use Komoot for route planning and Strava for ride record keeping).
Overall I'm quite happy with this purchase. This unit works exactly as advertised and is pretty sufficient for most riders. Granted there are no fancy software functions like live segment KOM. But for capturing all the relevant ride data and providing route direction, this unit works well.

I have used Bryton devices for several years now and have been mostly happy. When my 410 died after a couple of years, I bought the 420 for the breadcrumb track feature. It seemed to work well for a couple of months. Then it would occasionally freeze in the middle of a ride. I submitted a support request on Brytonsport website that has no been addressed after 3 weeks. Their automated email mentioned a reply time of 2-3 days. Last week the device locked up during a 200 mile event. I can’t trust the device and I can’t get Bryton to communicate with me at all. Be warned.
The 420 works fine. Battery life is incredibly good. Kudos for using a higher capacity battery. There are a couple quirks, however, and if you have been using a Garmin it could take some time to understand these:
1. Yes, it will fit your "out front" Garmin mount, but not perfectly. One side might tend to pop up. I secure the computer with a rubber band to keep it in place. Think of it as a Bryton to Garmin adapter. Yoy can also use the provided wrist strap to prevent losing it to the street. The case might end up being somewhat tight between the bottom of the 420 and your handlebar. Why is this an issue? On the 420 you'll have to deal with two buttons on the lower side corners and two more orange buttons on the lower back side underneath the lower edge. You will find it difficult to deal with the buttons underneath especially if you are wearing full finger gloves. Even without gloves you may have to twist the 420 in the mount to press either of these orange buttons on the back. Why is this an issue? See item 2.
2. How do I stop recording and save a ride? Once you return from your ride and wish to stop recording and save it you must press the left orange button mounted underneath. Don't try this while riding. You may end up colliding with a curb, a car or your neighbor. Just stop! Eventually, not immediately, the 420 will decide to pop up a menu where you can scroll down, using the lower left side button now, and select to save or delete etc. This is not very clear in the manual.
3. Oh, the manual... good luck fumbling around on the internet finding the manual. You'll see. "Select all pictures containing a bus..."
4. Live track: If your concerned friend/ loved one has become comfortable with receiving a live broadcast of your ride from Garmin you can also do this with the Bryton app. However, procedures are different. At the lower edge of the screen in the app you may select a "+" sign and then enter "live track" info said to be "automatic." So, you're thinking, no problem here. Enter your recipient's email and it will have you covered from now on. Nope! Refer to the rather clumsily written "24-hour extension" toggle switch and message. My version would say instead: You dont have to restart this option if, and ONLY IF, you start recording another ride within 24 hours of your current broadcast ending. If you don't do this within 24 hours it won't automatically start your broadcast the way Garmin does. You'll only realize this fact once your recipient starts sending you texts like "Where are you? Are you ok? Have you crashed? I thought you were going for a ride. Call me, call me!" I don't understand why I have to ride to my starting point, stop and take off gloves, fumble getting my phone out, fumble through the Bryton app and press "start live track" again. That's if I remember to do so. Why can't they leave this feature on, you know, like Garmin does? I'm 71. I'm lucky if I remember to lock my front door when I leave home.
Ok, more positive than negative so far. Perhaps Bryton will address some of these issues soon. The Rider 420 works great once you get used to operating it. Dealing with the Bryton app has been frustrating at times and you are left to figure things out on your own.
