HARD SUN is a pre-apocalyptic crime series set in contemporary London. CHARLIE HICKS (Jim Sturgess) and ELAINE RENKO (Agyness Deyn) are detectives who, while investigating a murder in the inner city, stumble upon proof that the world faces certain destruction – in five years. It’s a terrifying reality that the British government is urgently trying to suppress. Hicks and Renko find themselves pursued by ruthless Security Service operatives, who are trying to kill them in order to keep secret the truth about the mysterious cosmic event. I began to watch this on Hulu. If you think, by the trailer, you'll be watching a dystopian series, about the world coming to an end, then, you'll be disappointed. The plot has little to really do with, what is known as the "Hard Sun". This series is just filled with heavy violence, no reasonable storyline, as to why, who really wants to kill who. Apparently, if the world is coming to an end, people, the police, MI Security, etc. just want to kill and be killed. I fast forwarded to the last episode, just to get some idea, of what this poorly written series is even really about. Just alot of boring nothing. And, knowing that one of the female lead actors main career had been to be a model, who can't really act, then, well, move on and don't waste your money. It's on Hulu, if you subscribe to that, but I could barely finish even 2 episodes. Don't waste your money.
I know I was taking a chance ordering an English import of an English show so I'm not really ticked off that it turned out to be Region 2 and unplayable on my DVD player. THAT SAID: does it cost extra to just say so on the purchase page? Would it kill them to say Region 2 anywhere? Anyway, I'm told this is a terrific series. Maybe the CTV Sci-Fi channel will rerun it someday, since that's where my sister saw it.
Absolutely top drawer in every aspect. Has some similarities with the millennium series. For those whining about the conclusion..... try watching it all again, but this time pay attention. Very cleverly thought out story, superbly delivered. Will there be a 2nd series? Who knows? Its not totally necessary but would be interesting to see which road the writer ( Neil cross) could take it down. Problem being here, it's the BBC and they just wouldn't get it!
