Captain Marvel

Oscar-winner Brie Larson (Room) urges White men to skip her new film, which she says is about intersectional feminism. But even if I am a white man, I saw it anyhow. The off-camera blather of a rich, beautiful actress will not prevent me from seeing any movie I want to see, dog bone it. I want to see if Captain Marvel will say Shazam as the comic book hero did.
Nor should you be put off. The new episode from the Marvel movie factory has all we could want in a huge, $152 million film.
The fanciful story needs no attention beyond the set up than contending alien forces endanger our lovely blue planet. Only the superhero Captain Marvel can save our bacon.
Mz. Larson has the physique and athletic ability that allow us to pretend that she has the super abilities to save us. She has appeared in or stared in movies like Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Trainwreck and Kong: Skull Island as well as nabbing an Oscar for Room. This role will bring her to the widest possible movie audience.
She has a deep bench of famous actors to help her along. The inevitable Samuel L. Jackson once again appears in his Marvel Comics role as Nick Fury. Ben Medelson and Jude Law pitch in as aliens on different sides. Annette Bening, a great actress, has a prominent role. The distinctive-looking Djimon Hounsu has a smaller role but one that establishes a separate mysterious storyline. Gemma Chan, another distinctive face, adds to the growing luster of her career here as a henchwoman for the bad guys.
The writer/director team of Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck have a short but stout history in Hollywood. They have been active as writer, director and producer on various film and TV projects. Captain Marvel makes the first time that they have been entrusted with a hundred and fifty million dollars of other people's money. They have been worthy of that trust. Captain Marvel is fun to watch and will make a ton of money.
Harvard graduate Geneva Robertson-Dwore helped with the script. She also scripted the recent Tomb Raider.
The producers wanted a script that told the story of Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel with a character strong enough to not be overwhelmed by the special effects. That takes good writing. Star Brie Larson makes the most of several subtle humorous asides.
The best part of the film for me was the gradual reveal of just who this Carol Danvers person was and how did she end up with superpowers. It takes a good while to learn all we need to learn. We also get some good tie-ups of things in the Marvel universe (the name for the whole grand shebang comes from Captain Marvel). What happened to Nick Fury's eye, for example. For Marvel fans that alone will reward the price of admission.
This PG-13 blockbuster runs for two hours and 4 minutes. The constant mayhem will not frighten anyone, only non-realistic comic book violence comes on screen. We know it is all in fun. This three and a half saw blade movie will entertain us in the grand tradition of Marvel Comic films.

Still haven't seen this filler movie. Why should i pay to watch useless garbage. The original male captain marvel aside, why choose a rich white woman to play her. Of all the iterations choose a more diverse one. still havent seen the movie. could cross the bar of average marvel films
