Out of the package, the bottom fan (Just above the power supply) did not work. This was fixed by unscrewing the back panel and simply reconnecting the male and female wires — those probably unhooked themselves during the shipping process, so that might not be Thermaltake's fault.
Pros:
- The RGB is VERY controllable. The PC generously gives you the option to install the RGB control software as well, so it cannot be determined as bloatware.
- On that note, no bloatware is installed with this PC. I'm glad I didn't have to spend up to an hour uninstalling programs.
Cons:
- The ASUS motherboard's Bluetooth module is very weak on its own — none of my Bluetooth devices work from more than 3 feet away. I found out online that the Wi-Fi antenna that comes with the device actually functions as a Bluetooth radio as well, and after connecting it, my devices receive its Bluetooth signal just fine.
All I have had with this is problems.
After 1 month the computer started crashing: both blue screen errors and crashes that would automatically restart the pc. I eventually had an error that would allow the pc to start but not connect to a monitor for any visual.I contacted Thermaltake and sent it in for an RMA.
They replaced my motherboard and both ram sticks and claimed it passed their stress tests. Now 27 days after I requested the RMA I had the pc back in my possession, and within 24 hours I was still experiencing crashes with the pc during routine use. Since this time it has been 3 weeks and I have had numerous blue screen errors, and can't consistently play for more than 15 - 60 minutes at a time without the computer crashing.
I bought this computer to stream and to use as my main gaming/work computer. It is entirely unreliable and do not recommend it.
I am now awaiting to send it in for an RMA where they say they will replace all affected parts. I just want to be able to play games, and at nearly $3,000 you would think it would be possible. The customer service representatives have been helpful, but I am still annoyed that I waited nearly a month for my first RMA and it wasn't even remotely fixed beyond the one major error that was causing no visuals.
TLDR: PC is powerful, but my experience has been riddled with hardware errors that were not caused by anything I've done during routine use. Shop elsewhere for a good gaming pc.
4 month update:
Still awaiting my pc after a 2nd RMA. They're sending me an entirely new pc. The process on Thermaltake's end took 2x the amount estimated of business day, the shipping with UPS has been delayed. Again save yourself the effort and buy elsewhere.
That being said, I got this for an incredible 50% off and I don't regret it a single bit.
I don't need a 4K system. It's just not something I can accommodate in my computer space nor can I really afford it. The RTX 3080 fit the bill for my 27" 1080p monitor and the Ryzen 7 5800X is going to last a fair amount of time. I can upgrade it a bit and get around 7-10 years out of it.
The temps can swing a bit. I've noticed that it can and will get to around 88c but then it will dip down to the 60's almost immediately when the cooling kicks in. The design of the side panels is telling of their cheapness. It would have been more efficient cooling-wise to have the panels cut and designed to match the GPU's fans. Instead, they're offset and the fans blow into the glass that's situated around 1 inch away.
As such, the internal air cycle is expected to compensate, which flows from bottom to top to take advantage of hot air's tendency to rise. Air is sucked into the side panel opposite the GPU, and there is also fan on the back panel pulling air from the back side of the motherboard opposite the CPU to help keep things cool. I found the wires for this fan to be hitting the fan blades and had to take the back panel off to resituate the wires to prevent this from happening. This could be the cause of many "this computer is too loud" reviews.
All in all, this is a great rig for the price I paid. 50% off was nuts and it does what I need it to do. If you want a great 1080p rig, this is it. If you want to dive into 4K, go with a rig that has a 40 series GPU.
