Review
CHALGYR'S GAME ROOM -- 9/10 - With 18 impressive factions, the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game: Adventurer's Guide is a must-have for any aspiring Game Master.
R'YLEH -- For the devotee of the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game there is much in the pages of Starfinder: First Contact to entice their interest, especially if they are looking to expand their genre from fantasy to science fantasy and to see the future of Golarion pushed thousands of years into the future.
ROGUE WATSON -- ...the Starfinder Core Rulebook provides everything I need to get excited about the game, learn how to play, and create a successful adventurer.
EN WORLD -- Starfinder is a quality game that is likely going to be the point of the spear of a new wave of interest in science fiction/science fantasy gaming. With the success of Starfinder we will see a lot of other publishers dipping toes into both support of the Starfinder game, as well as their own new games. I was at the Gen Con when Pathfinder debuted, and I remember the craziness of the game selling out at the convention. Everyone wanted the game, it was unlike anything since the premier of D&D third edition. I suspect that we'll see something similar happen with Starfinder at this year's Gen Con. It will be the ultimate "must have" game at Gen Con.
STRANGE ASSEMBLY -- I try to be thorough in these reviews, so I would normally have pointed out something wrong, or at least suboptimal, in a tome of this size. But honestly there really isn't anything to pick at with Starfinder. It is just great from top to bottom. The mechanical system is honed within an inch of its life. It's already populated with interesting and distinctive new species (in addition to the fantasy standbys in the back). There's enough technology to make interstellar relations feasible, but the speed of travel and communications still permits a significant level of independence for adventurers (there is no home base that can be reached for orders at the touch of a button). Time will tell, but Starfinder is probably the best science fiction or science fantasy roleplaying game there is.
GEEK DAD -- The Starfinder Core Rulebook is a massive 520+ page book that contains everything you need to know to construct and level unique and interesting characters, with information on playable races, character themes, and classes. There are entire chapters on the various skills, feats, equipment, magic, and spells available in the game, character combat, starship building and combat, setting information and more. The Core Rulebook is stunning. The layout, graphics, and art are all beautiful, just as we expect from a Paizo product. The layout is clear and easy to use and is rife with science-fantasy themed graphics and stellar art. Paizo has used this design to set Starfinder apart from the rest of their products. Where Pathfinder books have an old manuscript feel with warm, earth tones, and swooping graphics, Starfinder stands out in your collection with hard edges and cool tones. Paizo was able to simplify the Pathfinder system, while keeping what I love most about Pathfinder- a wealth of character options-and providing us with a rich universe full of intrigue and lore to play in. The character options leave my mind swirling with ideas, and I'm excited to start building a ship. In short, I'm ready to start playing!

Scale 1 to 5 (best):
Worldbuilding: 5
**I give it props for having a wonderfully diverse set of aliens right off the bat within the core rulebook. There is a lot of depth to the worlds within the Pact, the various religions and factions, and the Starfinder society itself is diverse with a lot more depth than I originally expected. I am a lover of world-building, so I appreciated the depth the core rulebook goes into to explain the history of the world -- the gap within the timeline and its impact on the worlds and their species, and it's addendum with the pathfinder races, where the rulebook dug a little deeper to let us see how the gap and push into the stars affected these races.
Rules: 4
The rules are a bit more complex than standard DnD 5e, but I like the versatility and the depth to the rules for Starfinder. Though I feel like a "tutorial" session is needed for some of the rules, such as vehicle chases and starship engagements, which wasn't necessary for Pathfinder or Dnd 5e. This is partly due to the science fiction setting, but also to how combat is resolved and the styles of roles the players can have in starship combat. I personally like it, but it was something our group struggled with at first.
Character building: 5
There is so much diversity in how to build one's character, level advancement, and the types of classes one can have. The core rulebook gives some great advice and rules for converting Pathfinder classes to Starfinder rules and magic systems, but it also provides some excellent and unique classes that are exclusive to Starfinder. I loved the versatility of these classes -- allowing for many different styles of play. Some may seem straightforward -- for example, the soldier, but due to the abilities within the class, the archetype and other features, one can build a style of play that isn't just a tank for the soldier -- such as a sniper soldier or a xenoseeker. So the classes each allow for several different play styles within them, so that one class isn't just Tank only or healer only. The archetype that refines the character building and adds depth to the level advancement is also a wonderful touch to the character building.
Play: 4
To those new to science fiction RPG or RPGs in general, starting a campaign can be rough at first. This is mostly due to the learning the new rules for vehicles and starships that are quite different than other more-fantasy-like RPGs. But once the group gets used to the rules, the play was fun, engaging, and the equipment lists as well as rules for environment and other hazards added great elements to the immersion.
DungeonMastering: 5
For this category, I mostly looked at how does the core rulebook support a new DM as well as an expert one? For a new DM, the core rulebook is incredibly helpful. Provides examples for building a one-session adventure, to give an idea of how to piece together the pieces needed to be successful in a session. It goes through the step-by-step process in detail, and each of the steps are thorough with providing all the necessary information to get a new DM on their feet and ready to start the adventure. It can be helpful to buy the Alien Archive and/or the Pact Worlds in order to write one's own detailed campaign, as both provide even more details about the universe of Starfinder, nicely expanding upon the wealth of information already in the Core rulebook.
So overall, I listed it a five due to the above four categories and general overall view of the game.
