Durability- This goes to the Fantasy Flight games version hands down. In this production the tiles are very thick (albeit small) and printed with vinyl finish. The Mayfair version is printed on the same kind of tiles as Catan, which do not impress me to be honest. They are not as thick as these, and the ink on paper finish is no durable at all.
Quality of Bits- Once again, this goes to Fantasy Flight. The print is on vinyl finish, and the tiles are HEAVY. they are thicker than the full sized game by far. The Penguins however, leave something to be desired. In the Mayfair version, the penguins are hand painted and finished to look like penguins, wearing different colored accessories to signify what team they are on. In this version, the penguins are simply solid colored and stuck in entertaining poses. They get the job done, but are not as pretty as the Mayfair ones. I imagine this is done to keep this version easy on your wallet, and do to the fact that they are small. The quality is where it counts so I supposed we should forgive FF this one.
Gameplay - same as the original... A strategic and clever mix of moving penguins to take as many fish as possible while leaving your opponents buried alive by their mistakes. At my house, there are NO friendly games of Hey That's My Fish. We play for the survival of the species. = )
Packaging - The box is small (about the size of any given Fantasy Flight card game (lets use Rat-a-Tat-Cat as an example) and is made of the same thick, durable, vinyl printed material as the tiles themselves. It was MADE with travel in mind, and it WILL endure abuse.
Final thoughts - I feel the need to reiterate... this version is small. Take whatever image you are getting in your mind right now... and shrink it. The entire board is 8x8in when using the standard construction archetype. this is GREAT for travel, but there are obvious downsides... Pieces can get lost easier this way, and it is a bit tedious setting the game up (a problem I have with the original to be honest) I will post some pictures tonight for reference's sake, so watch for them.
A solid purchase by any account! You won't be disappointed!

A solid purchase by any account! You won't be disappointed!
After having played numerous games, the size of the tiles and penquin models are ideal. Much bigger and you would have to have a larger playing area to play. I love how small it is for storage or transport, but it is plenty big enough to play.
The game mechanics themselves are very simple and easy to learn. It is playable by children (it was a Christmas present for my 4-year-old, and she adores it) but there is enough strategy to make it fun for adults. The games are fast-paced. I can't see one playing longer than 15 minutes, with no real down time.
Also, the tiles amd models are all sturdy and of the excellent quality we have come to expect from Fantasy Flight.
Thematically, this is a refershing change from all the wargames and dungeon crawls. It is a family friendly contest between penquins to grab the most fish on a very rapidly shrinking ice flow.
Overall, this is a great game and a great value.
The bad parts of this game - seems to take longer to set up than to actually play it. Can be a little annoying having to remove pieces during play due to design of the overall game. The game "board" consists of piles of little cardboard hex tiles. They are they same high quality of some of the big box RPG games like Descent, but I think for a game this small they could have made them out of wood or plastic.
I would give this a solid 5 star when the game tiles are upgraded a bit.
But overall, it's an excellent game for those about 6 and up. For an added challenge, start with the tiles FACE DOWN. This way there is a bit of luck involved as you are simply trying to trap the enemy and take as many tiles as possible instead of going straight for the three fish tiles.
Still, it's totally worth the price.

It has very simple rules but there is some level of depth and strategy involved if you want to win; depending on who you play with. Quality of the components is pretty good, and the game is so small, you could EASILY bring it with you on the go! I think I'll bring it camping next time :) It has become a welcome addition into my boardgame collection.
El objetivo es muy sencillo: conseguir más pescados que el resto de jugadores. Es un juego de estrategia con reglas muy simples (de hecho sólo hay dos). Se pierde un poco de tiempo en organizar la partida, pero merece la pena.
