when I purchased the Duke Nukem PC CD, it was simply because that in the past (1993 ~ 2001) I had purchased Duke Nuke and I received the Duke Nukem in D. C. as a gift. So I said 2 myself -- "Self -- go ahead and take a trip down memory lane." Two months ago I paid $1850. for a gaming machine and I then added some more add ons 2 tthat particular system. I purchased: (a) Duke Nukem Forever (b) Tom Clancy's 2CD set - Ghost Recon with the bonus CD Island Thunder and (c) Duke Nukem - The Manhattan Project. This was back on June 26th, 2019, I received all three CD's no later than July 9th, 2019. As of July 28th, 2019, title (b) has been trashed -- even with EMAILED Technical support Ghost Recon would not/did not load and of course Island Thunder had 2 piggy back Ghost Recon in order 2 play -- both titles made it 2 the bottom of the green recyclable garbage can. The (c) title -- Duke Nukem - The Manhattan Project -- this title dates back to 2001 with 1 of the options 2 operate/control the game/player being a -- ?? joystick control ?? - what the hey??? And then on top of that -- the game was a scroll screen type --- a throwback 2 the arcade console style games of the past. I contacted Steam play 4 assistance -- no can do!!!! I never got the game 2 load after several attempts -- even on an XP based PC system. Move over Ghost Recon -- here is another thrashed title. I couldn't bring myself 2 try 2 pawn off these duds @ the local Half Price Books. And for the Duke Nukem Forever title, after the completion of the creation of a new Steam account, I was able 2 receive very little assistance from the publisher of the game. I want 2 continue trying 2 load/operate this title 4 my own personal reasons. : - ( In short, in the future, when I decide 2 purchase used software gaming titles, I will stick with the local resellers -- book stores, pawn shops, swap meets -- from this experience, purchasing gaming titles from an online reseller is basically a crap shoot -- be careful when you roll those dice!!!!!!

I really wanted this fun FPS game for my grandsons, BUT IT WON'T INSTALL, SO IT'S WORTHLESS

Even though it was for the PC, I would need a faster computer for the graphics. Perhaps in the near future.

this sequel has been hyped for years, so having years to work with they could have gone in so many directions, accomplished so much in a time frame that long. Instead we get this steaming pile. Here is a synopsis of the game: 1.aliens attack; 2.duke kills 6 to 12 aliens; 3. cut scene; 4. wander around accomplishing nothing(not even any easter eggs); 5. cut scene;7. goto 1 and repeat. If you remove all of the cut scenes and wandering around, you could go through this game in about 6 hours. AND...AND...adding insult to injury since it's activated thru steam I can't resell it to recoup some of my loss. This is just a total waste.

1.0 out of 5 stars n'achete pas! On essai de vendre les DVD sans code produit libéré sur Steam
Reviewed in France on May 19, 2019

5.0 out of 5 stars Cheap fun.

If you bought this at full price then I sympathise as it is poor in the graphics department, poor in the gameplay department and as such, yup you guessed it, poor in the value-for-money department. However, not having played any of the previous games and, as such, having no expectations at all, for the sub-£4 price, assuming you don't mind some toilet humour and this is present from the beginning, I commend this title to you for the simple fun of punching and shooting things. If you need much more then that save the cash and put it to something else as this just isn't going to be up to the task.

Oh, and the game installs, and updates using Steam, with no issues on Win 7 64 bit.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fun game for Men.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on January 27, 2013
Duke Nukem came out years ago. Many years ago.

I wasn`t that into Duke at the time, a bit silly for me, but the tales of lots of monsters to shoot, Doom style gameplay and nekkid ladies had me looking. I took my serious hat off and I thoroughly enjoyed the game at the time, completing it, even though it`s pretty basic stuff; shoot monsters, stare at semi-naked ladies and feel macho.

This uptodate, Duke Nukem Forever, is pretty much more of the same thing, except with better graphics. By the way, this is an unashamed game for Men, or Women who don`t mind nekkid Women being had by evil Aliens, and celebrates Manliness, more on that later.

Duke Nukem starts right away with the killing of a Huge alien and having fun with the twin sexy girls he`s with. From there it`s pretty predictable. The aliens (who interestingly are called Pig Cops, something from the 80`s- You have to have been there to understand) are invading... again.... because they hate Duke Nukem, much like Feminists will.

The Aliens are again kidnapping our lovely ladies while horribly killing and mutilating the men. Why are the Aliens kidnapping the women? To get back at Duke AND impregnate the women for their own procreation of monsters! I think... It`s not really explained. It`s corny, but this isn`t meant to be taken seriously. Interestingly, Duke isn`t so great at rescuing the girls, more intent on just killing all the aliens.

As Duke you get the use of a pistol and shotgun. Both work great and are meaty, especially the shotty up close. The shotgun is my favourite weapon so I was happy, but I agree with many that more real world weapons included would`ve been nice. I know Duke just had a shotty and pistol in the original, but I don`t see why that could not have increased the conventional weapons now. He does, however get more Alien type weapons including the shrink gun, which is funny.

Duke himself gets shrunk several times resulting in some clever levels where he has to navigate whole Canteen areas and rooms to switch off dangerous appliances or help someone before returning to full size. Some levels have him driving a miniature buggy, which, again is fun, but I wish there was a 1st person mode when driving. I found the levels very intelligent and quite mature. You get the feeling they were designed for adults rather than kids. they are quite brain taxing, yet very logical. At first you feel completely stumped, but a few minutes later, you`ll be thinking, `Of course!` One level was funny because I had to fight aliens among jars of ketchup and mustard with them exploding as they got hit.

Some levels can get a little annoying with the platform-esque jumping, but as I said, not so annoying to stop the game and never illogical. It was always ultimately easy and I played on the Hardest level. By the way, I completed the game on the Hardest level- It isn`t that hard. the original was harder... Hmm. sure Duke would have some sexual innuendo about my last sentence. ;P

Levels go from Hotel buildings and Casinos to Alien tentacle land to underwater scapes, etc and are very well realised if functional. There was a level where duke gets knocked out and dreams he`s in a topless dance Club. It gives you an eyeful of the ladies which is all Duke, and I, expect. Nice.

As I said you get the `pig cops` (an `80s thing) and other more dangerous aliens and quite a lot of HUGE aliens that you have to run around, get ammo, shoot, get more ammo- shoot, then when the huge alien weakens, you run up and button mash to rip out a horn or eye, killing it. You can even do a `Humiliation` move where you box his privates -I kid you not!

Duke`s quips are sometimes funny sometimes meh! Many of his quips are from the 80s-90s fashions. For instance he says, "I`ll buy that for a Dollar` (robocop) and `You think that`s the real me- It is! (Total Recall)... His quips are more from the happening films of the time than now and will fly over the heads of many who were too young to see those years.

Of course sexual innuendo is everywhere and a good laugh and just the sort of thing a proud grown man likes when killing stinking aliens. Sadly, later on, the sexy and semi nude ladies (they`re never fully naked) get scarce until you don`t get anything at all and then the game becomes the run of the mill competent FPS- Kill, kill, kill, navigate obstacles routine. What happened to the sexy ladies?

I was surprised and pleased that a lot of objects can be shot through which taking cover behind a wooden box soon meant that box was chewed away and you had to run fast to more secure cover. Made things a bit tactical. AI`s not too bad, with some aliens chucking grenades at you on later levels. Others go into a weird berserk mode where they`ll hurt you bad if they get to you.

Duke has several drinks and can interact with the enviroment to increase his EGO, which is his health. He has a few interesting items to help him out like the Holoduke, etc.

Sounds are good. Ran fine on my PC with very short load times.

Overall, much better entertainment for Men than I expected.

Issues?

Well who thought to put the sneak icon brighter and just below the target shoot icon in the middle? Several times in the heat of battle I`ve used the crawl icon as my target finder by accident, wondering why I was never hitting the alien. The crawl icon should`ve been out to the side edge of the screen to avoid confusing it with the crosshair! I like to crawl and shoot a lot in my FPS`.

There`s a lot of levels and game, but I agree it was very linear in many parts. I played on the hardest level, but it was pretty easy to get through the game. More open areas would`ve been better.

More Conventional weapons needed.

More sexy, naked ladies in the later levels (heck, reasons why are easy to make up)- Oh and let us actually rescue them too. Men love doing that.

It would`ve been nice if a tad more work was put into npcs, fellow soldiers, etc, sometimes they really feel like they are just there to get blown apart 2 seconds later. Men have it very rough in Duke Nukem except for Duke. Some of the ladies do too if the aliens get at them.

Mandatory Steam. I don`t like Steam forced on users. However, I waited until the game was extremely cheap ( a couple of quid). I would`ve bought it on release if it hadn`t been for that, however, this time I won`t mark it down due to the cheap price I got it at.

Now let`s get something clear; this game is unashamedly MACHO, just as it was 12 years ago. Once I would`ve thought nothing to it, but now I see these types of games as important for Men. Men need an outlet. Men need to express that maleness unashamedly, somewhere. They should not be vilified for liking being macho or staring at naked women in an 18-rated GAME. Soap box message over.

So it`s a fun game for MEN and even women who aren`t screwed up about Men actually liking sexy girls in distress in Men`s games. `Don`t like, don`t buy it`, as Duke would say.
