The game tiles and miniatures are excellent quality. In fact I would say the miniatures are amazing and SO detailed. The game pieces for the columns are the only ones I wish were just a little higher quality because you use them a lot to create different levels of your maps and they are wearing out a little faster than the other items.
The quests are fun and since I am playing with 2 different groups, I'm getting 2 different experiences. I like that you can bring in different characters and the app does make subtle changes to the quests to allow for some replayability.
Overall I highly recommend this game to both TTRPG and more casual board game fans.
But MAN is the game lackluster. Descent: Legends of the Dark doesn't stand up to the modern mammoths of Epic Campaign style games such as Middara and Oathsworn, sure, but that's not even the real crime here. Descent: Legends falls flat against the precedence set by *other* excellent FFG titles that have come before it and that continue to get support.
Let's start with its own predecessor: Descent: Journeys in the Dark, which functions well as a light campaign game with some puzzly scenarios. Balance falls off pretty badly at some point between overlord vs. players, but it's a solid intro to campaign games. My little brothers and I still re-tell stories about Albright hoofing objectives through a waterfall, practically bleeding out of his lungs to escape a band of goblins the rest of us had fallen to, clutching the scenario against all odds.
If anything, my expectations were largely driven by Arkham Horror The Card Game which is amazing overall as a long campaign game in terms of mechanics, pacing, and narrative integration. The enemy and encounter phases between player turns are ominous and challenging, the writing is superb and the choices you make in and out of gameplay feel impactful for the overall story as it unfolds, and character progression is mechanically compelling and robust without feeling overly complex. Were none of the guys on this series consulted for Legends?
Mansions of Madness, another FFG title this time sporting app integration with the physical board game, is well implemented as a romp through a B-movie horror setting. My take is the ONLY way to improve it is to have an overarching campaign.
By that token, Mansions and Lord of the Rings: Journeys In Middle Earth actually strike this really good balance of app integration vs. still feeling like a true physical tabletop game.
So I'm just shocked there is little evidence for either of those titles acting as even a baseline reference for Descent: Legends, which derails the balance between app vs. physical, making the excellent quality cardboard and miniatures feel superfluous to just using the app.
Part of it is the lack of pacing and urgency. You're given all the time in the world to position and ambush enemies, and when the game *does* try to surprise you with enemies or traps popping out of the shadows or something when the app tells you they do, it feels arbitrary and, worse still, annoying, because the consequences usually end up with your party barely inconvenienced. When we cleared the first map, we had infinite time to wander around and farm materials, including clicking this tree over and over to stockpile crafting materials. There's a right and wrong way to make players feel powerful and that they have agency, and Legends definitely does it the wrong way.
Look, I'm gonna stop here, because I think a fair way to describe the game boils down to this:
If this is your first campaign game ever, or maybe within the first five board games you've ever purchased, there's enough sparkly production here backed by "good enough" writing and gameplay that you're almost sure to like it, if not love it.
That said, the 3-star score is a bit generous. It'll score that high or a bit more for anyone newer to board games, I'm sure. But more experienced players will find the pacing, challenge, and overall engagement to make meaningful decisions severely lacking. There's a difference between good looking games and great gameplay, and it takes some experience to make that distinction.

Aún con todo considero q es un excelente juego.
The value for money in this is incredible. Yes, it's pricey, but you get figurines for all 6 heroes, the bbeg, and multiple of each enemy type (ranging between 2 and 4) for 2 trays full of figurines. Not to mention 18 reversible "tiles" that create the game play area as you progress, dozens of scenery pieces, tokens, and multiple card decks for items, armours, skills and weapons. All of which is very well made, and the figurines come unpainted so you can have the joy of painting them yourselves.
As for time to play, expect hours lost to the game. We have a group running a campaign and, after completing 2 quests, we're pushing theb8 hour mark. Each scenario, or quest, takes about 2 to 4 hours to complete. And there are multiple quests across the campaign. All of which is told using beautiful artwork, music and cut scenes within the phone app. Which helps guide you through each fight, every turn, every interaction, even the city between each quests is interactable through the app.
All in all, if you have the patience for it, this is an incredible game that is well thought out, well made, well developed and well worth the money.
