Product Description
Hear the revolution in gaming audio with the Turtle Beach Recon 500 wired gaming headset, which gives serious players the competitive edge they need to top the leaderboards in any game. This pioneering headset features first-of-their-kind 60mm Eclipse Dual Drivers that deliver unprecedented sound quality at every frequency through a pair of wood composite injected earcups, custom-crafted for acoustic perfection. Plus, for even more immersive audio, the Recon 500 supports spatial sound technologies like Windows Sonic, Dolby Atmos and DTS Headphone: X*. Keep in touch with your teammates (or taunt your enemies) with the removable, noise cancelling TruSpeak microphone which delivers crystal-clear, pro-level chat. Play in comfort – even during marathon sessions – thanks to breathable memory foam ear cushions and a durable, lightweight, metal-reinforced headband. Finally, its simple wired connection works perfectly on any device using a standard 3.5mm jack, so your Recon 500 gaming headset is always ready for battle, no batteries required. Dolby Atmos and DTS:X: may require additional purchases, app downloads, and supported hardware.
- Turtle Beach 60mm Eclipse Dual Drivers: Patented, dual drivers have separate high and low frequencies for improved audio detail over a conventional driver, and the larger 60mm size produces a massive soundstage for ultra-realistic audio.
- Turtle Beach AccuTune Precision: Engineered to maximize performance of the Eclipse Dual Drivers, our AccuTune precision tuning process uses a wood-composite injection within the earcup for a completely new internal design for rich, natural sound.
- Pro-Level Comms: Developed for professional gaming, the TruSpeak uni-directional, noise-cancelling microphone delivers clear, reliable chat and removes easily for use when chat isn’t needed.
- Supreme Comfort: Soft memory foam ear cushions with ProSpecs glasses-friendly technology wrapped in athletic weave fabric keep you comfortable and cool in the heat of the battle.
- Durable, Lightweight Design: The adjustable, metal-reinforced headband is built to last, flexible, and lightweight for marathon gaming sessions.
- ProSpecs Glasses Relief: Turtle Beach’s exclusive ProSpecs comfort-driven design removes pressure on your glasses while you play.
- On-Ear Controls: Easily accessible volume control and mic mute located on the earcup.

I've had these for a year or so now and I absolutely love them. Haven't had any problems and definitely won't be going back to cheap earbuds!
The sound quality is exceptional to my ears - as I said, I'm not a super picky audiophile or anything, but these are miles better than earbuds, rich and vibrant sound that makes games feel so much more real and immediate. I mostly leave the volume dial on these all the way up and adjust the volume with the TV remote or the PS5 controller volume setting. It can be easy to move the dial while handling these, but since I keep it turned up anyway, there's no danger of deafening myself or anything and it's no bother to fix it back.
I do very little multiplayer or online gaming, so can't really comment on the microphone or those features. I mostly leave the mic detached. But I tend to hyperfocus like crazy so I do frequently play all day on a day off, and have never had the slightest discomfort from these, or felt sweaty and overheated even after 10+ hours of more or less continuous use. I also wear glasses at all times, and these don't bother them or put pressure on them at all.
Long gaming days was also the reason I chose wired over wireless. With modern controllers you can plug them right into the controller so the cord is no bother (even if my silly little dog does manage, without fail, to tangle herself in it slightly) and there's no battery life to worry about.
These block the majority of outside noise. Not absolutely everything, depending on what's going on in your game, but enough that people in the same room have to wave to get my attention. I do sometimes keep one ear partly uncovered to listen for the doorbell or something, and that's easy to do and still just as comfortable.
Absolutely zero complaints about these, they're great quality and comfortable even after a whole day or more, with glasses, and would absolutely buy again.
From a parent standpoint it may work too well. Sometimes it is hard for him to hear us calling him (I’m sure it’s the headset, right?)
He loves it and it works great. He likes that there is a separate mute button instead of flipping the mic up and down. He didn’t like moving the mic up and down on the old headset and doesn’t seem to mind the new one cannot move.
-The audio isn't half bad, and the directional audio is extremely clear in games. I'm sure audiophiles will disapprove, but for normal people it's great.
-Foam pads are super comfortable and will surely last longer than crappy fake leather.
-Design isn't too gamer-y. I wouldn't be embarrassed to wear these to a zoom meeting.
-Fully detachable mic is the way to go. Love to see it.
Cons
-Specifically for PC use, the cable is pathetic. Only 4ft is anemic, and there is no pink and green splitter included, which means the mic is literally unusable out of the box. Resolving these issues will run you another $15 or so.
-I have a medium sized head, and this fits me comfortably, but only when fully extended. If you have a real melon on your shoulders, you're gonna want to keep looking.
-I don't know if I have some setting wrong, but the gain seems pretty low. I have to fully project like I'm outside for my teammates to hear me at a normal level. (Edit: I did have some setting wrong. Friends now say mic audio quality is good.)
If you're gonna be plugging it into your Xbox controller, go for it. If you're plugging it into a computer, I wouldn't say no, but maybe take a little more time to consider your options with the fact that it's really a $65 venture in mind.
Now if you maybe adjust the sound to a point that's bareable, the headset itself is not comfortable at all. The "memory foam" pads feel like bricks on your head, and it squeezes the temples. Strongly suggest to not buy this product.

Why get wireless when u can just plug it in and go!
(No bluetooth, no wifi, no batteries, no charging)
Great Quality, convenient volume dial, and mute button. Super comfy ear cushions.
Zero regret. Very strong and durable cord, and great length.
