Great game but Horrible packaging by Amazon!
The box was barely taped shut, and when it arrived, some of the tape had peeled off. There was even a HOLE in the shipping box! To make matters worse, there were no air cushions, so the game was poorly protected. Fortunately, the game itself wasn't damaged.Amazon's new economical packaging for international shipping is HORRIBLE. The bare minimum with next to zero product protection! The game itself is quite good, but it has a lot of rules. I recommend keeping the player aid and rule reference handy. Once you get past the first few turns, it becomes easier to play. Overall, the game is quite fun and perfect for fans of Battlestar Galactica. This is a streamlined and improved version that's more accessible.

Unfathomable is a captivating strategy game that offers a challenging and immersive experience for teens and adults alike. Set in the Arkham Horror universe, this hidden traitor board game keeps players engaged with its blend of strategy and intrigue.

One of the game's strengths is its depth and complexity, providing a rich gaming experience that unfolds over multiple playthroughs. The hidden traitor mechanic adds an extra layer of tension and suspense, keeping players on their toes as they navigate alliances and suspicions.

However, the learning curve for Unfathomable can be steep. New players may find it challenging to grasp all the rules and intricacies initially, leading to longer playtimes as everyone becomes familiar with the mechanics.

Despite this initial hurdle, the game's depth and replayability make it a rewarding choice for those willing to invest time in mastering its strategies. Once players overcome the learning curve, Unfathomable offers hours of fun and strategic gameplay.

Overall, Unfathomable earns a four-star rating for its engaging gameplay and thematic depth, with the caveat that it may require patience and multiple playthroughs to fully appreciate.

FFG is slowly winning me over with the new Descent, Arkham (board game, I’m not nuts!), and this surprisingly well-done mashup of traitor games and the tight action economy of their other coop titles. It’s like Dead of Winter and Mansions of Madness had a baby. A fun baby.

Never played BSG, but this is apparently a reskin of a much-loved game transported to their Arkham Files world. But this time we have some new faces, which is nice. I’ve got nothing against Jenny the dilettante chick and the hobo with the dog guy, but seeing them turn up in every game gets a little old.

Their miniatures are hit or miss; Mansions’ are terrible, new Descent’s are amazing. These are somewhere in between. The Deep Ones are meh but the two big monsters look great. I’ve seen this exact art of them in several other games but having them as big miniatures is a ton of fun.

Some people have complained about the hodgepodge of art styles. While it’s true that the ship illustration on the board itself has a “bad Sketchup paint over” vibe, the card art and manual design is so insanely tasty that I found the game extremely nice to look at on balance.

Be warned though, this is not Werewolf or even Dead of Winter-level gaming. There’s a good amount of stuff going on and keeping track of all the mechanics in effect and actions available to you is going to be a struggle if you’re not fairly deep into board gaming already. That said, there’s no reason you and/or your loved ones can’t learn and this would be a great place to start.

Keep up the good work, FFG!

Unfathomable is a strategy game designed for teens and adults, it is based on the theme of the popular board game "Arkham Horror". The game is set in the 1920s and players take on the role of investigators trying to solve a series of mysteries and stop an ancient, otherworldly being from destroying the city of Arkham.

    Positives:

Many different scenarios and mysteries to solve
    Challenging and engaging gameplay
Suitable for both teens and adults

Some users may find that the game's components are not of the best quality

Big fan of Mansions of Madness. Got invited to play this with some friends. I very much like that it's a sped up easier version of Mansions, I've legit had a 7 hour mansions game on numerous occasions.
We ended up having two traitors from the beginning so we never had a chance, didn't even get halfway thru the game before the boat sank.
We knew who one traitor was but the second one blew our mind because my fiance played so well we didn't even know there was a second one. He got himself thrown in the brig and his captain status removed (and given to me so I looked sus). And stayed there the whole time sabotaging. The owner of the game is a cop and watching him go through an absolute existential crisis and clearly wondering about his career choice upon reveal had me immediately buying this game because it was DELIGHTFUL.

I loved the Battlestar Galactica board game that this was modeled off off, so I was very happy to play something that uses the BSG rules, but updated to make it easier to play. My friends and I have only got to play this twice so far, but both times we had a fun night of yelling at one another about who the traitor is. Good times!

The original Battlestar Galactica boardgame from Fantasy Flight Games is probably my favorite hidden role game and I have always regretted not buying a copy when it was still in print.

When FFG announced they're be releasing an updated version of BSG with a lovecraftian reskin it was a no brainer for me to order it.

The game arrived mint and well packaged with no visible flaw caused by shipping.

The game itself is not exactly like BSG however the changes they made are all mostly improvements, in my opinion. It's probably a medium in the difficulty of learning scale and sessions tend to last as advertised (2-4 hours). Overall it's a perfect follow-up to the BSG legacy.

5.0 out of 5 stars BSG is back and better than ever
Reviewed in Singapore on November 17, 2021
BSG aka Battlestar Galactica has been Holy Grail of boardgames even since its release but it has been almost impossible to get. After years of begging, finally FFG have made a remake of the game but it is set in their Arkham Files universe so we can be relieved they won't stop printing the game in the near future (see Arkham Horror for example). Unfathomable plays like the original but it is more streamlined and more combat heavy as everyone will have to work together to combat the deep ones. Having 2 actions per turn keeps the action going and once everyone knows what to do is pretty smooth going. At first glance the game seems impossible for the humans but with more plays it is doable. The core set has a lot of replay value but i am interested if they incorporate the other BSG expansions into Unfathomable. As a big fan of the original, I approve the changes of this game and will wholeheartedly recommend it.
