Customer Reviews, including Product Star Ratings help customers to learn more about the product and decide whether it is the right product for them.
To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzed reviews to verify trustworthiness.

I have had mine for a year, and I've only had minor problems with the focus (sometimes the camera fails to focus correctly, even when checking the focus beforehand and trying to avoid the dreaded red indicator), and one major lens problem. The latter was fixed by Nikon through their repair service, which I was able investigate and contact through the website. Because the warranty was still in place, I didn't have to pay for anything except the shipping costs to get the camera to the repair center. Overall, the process went very smoothly, and the problem hasn't recurred.
The camera is very easy to use, which made it an ideal choice to gift to someone else who has been wanting to upgrade from an old point-and-shoot camera. I bought another as a gift, though this model has been discontinued and replaced by a newer wi-fi-enabled version. For the gift recipient, the older L830 seemed like a better option, so I purchased it from a Marketplace seller that still had it in stock.
Overall, I am impressed with the camera. It isn't a fancy or high-end model, but it captures great photos and allows me to practice using the zoom function and various features that aren't available with simpler models. For an amateur photographer, it is a great camera for practicing basic skills and focusing more on the photographs' content rather than the means by which the images are captured. It does not capture movement (such as pets on the move or fish in a tank) well, and I've not been able to capture very good pictures in dark settings where the flash will not be of use, such as night skies. However, I wouldn't expect this type of camera to have the most robust selection of settings and functions. Eventually, I plan to get a more professional camera, with removable lenses, options for adjusting shutter speed and aperture, and so on, but for now this camera is a suitable tool.
The camera is fairly priced, and the photo quality and ease of use are very good. Aside from some expected deficiencies, due to the fact that the camera is not an expensive, high-end model, it is an excellent device. It does exactly what you should expect from this type of camera, and I would recommend it (or perhaps the newer, similar models that have replaced it) to anyone looking for a mid-range camera that is an improvement over a phone's camera but doesn't cost a great deal or have a lot of bells and whistles.
This is my first Nikon. All my other cameras are DSLRs, two Canons, two Samsungs, and one Sony. The reason I mention this is because for the first 200+ shots I was looking to dial in exposure, or at least figure out how to use the scene setting for that. But now I just sit back and relax, because this camera does a pretty good job getting the correct exposure. Of course, I would still like to be able to set the DOF or Shutter Speed, but on the whole I can live with the cameras decisions.
My main purpose in buying this was the video; the power zoom lens. So far I have shot 4 short video clips at 1080P 30fps, and have been very pleased with the quality and the track focus when zooming. I view all my pictures on a 32" monitor, so I am up close and personal. Also I use Nikon's ViewNX 2 software to download my pictures and video and to look at the results. Nice thing about ViewNX 2 is you can look at both stills and video.
Now what mode works best for me on the camera; Auto mode gives me a bit more adjustments, exposure compensation and ISO, but they all have their special niches. Because this only shoots JPEGs, I like fooling around with the Special Effects mode, especially the High-Contrast Monochrome. I have been learning to think in Black and White on my other cameras, then converting in post. But because this only shoots JPEGs, the pictures are now B&W. In my days of yesteryear, when I shot film, I always tried to do as much in camera as possible. And that still carries over to today. Even in Special Effects mode, I have the option of exposure compensation which I use quite often. Because this is viewing through an LCD screen, and because I shoot most of the time in bright sunlight, I use an LCD viewfinder so I can see the screen without it being washed out by the sun and it works good. I could try to describe all the modes and what they are good for, but there are just too many ways to shoot a picture. I always recommend going after the instruction manual to see what you are buying. Makes life a lot easier.
Basically, this can be a point and shoot camera in expert mode, and as you get more comfortable with the controls and what they do, this camera will walk you through the learning process of becoming a better photographer, so you can understand better that DSLR you have been wanting. Hence the name "Bridge Camera". For me this is the camera that I can use for video, and if I just want to grab a camera for fun. It is so versatile; 16MP, long zoom power lens, great stills and video, plus very compact. Oh by the way, I purchased this camera at the Amazon Warehouse for quite a bit less than new. If you haven't tried them don't hesitate, I haven't been disappointed yet. At 16MP and the price of the camera, plus the quality of the photos and video, what else but 5 stars.

Video quality is ok but it only shoots 1080/30 at best so you will most likely get a better video quality using a modern smartphone.
