Finally found a FAQ doc that said to make sure the notches on the lock adapter were at the vertical position (12/3/6/9 o’clock) when the lock was at it’s ‘default’ position (unlocked). When I swapped out the adaptor to the blue one from the light brown and recalibrated the lock one more time it started working perfectly. No more weird mismatch between the app and lock position even when the WiFi signal was good! Range of motion is much farther when the lock opens now and it has a fancy chirp to show it unlocked correctly. That chirp made me so happy after fighting with the app this long, but it didn’t compare to clicking the app a second time and having it reliably relock immediately.
It felt like it was ‘almost’ working before figuring this issue out so I assumed the app/some buggy firmware was at fault but it was installation error on my part! The rest of the install was so easy. Oh well.
Also, go get the rechargeable 123a batteries for this lock. Saw that tip from someone else and just got two sets to swap between. The disposable batteries drain pretty fast and are expensive.

I finally saw the August smartlock as an ad and a lightbulb went off. It looked like it would actually fit! I purchased the one with the keypad to mount outside and installed it two days ago. I LOVE this smartlock. It works exactly as expected and I have no concerns. No more digging through my purse for my keys while I'm carrying groceries and coffee and holding a dog leash etc etc! No more constant fear of locking myself out! And I can share access to a friend/pet sitter/etc!
The auto-unlock feature slaps. When I get home from work and approach my front steps the door just unlocks for me. The only thing I've found that could be slightly better is that when I'm walking my dog around the neighborhood, it won't consider me in "away" mode because I didn't go that far. It won't auto-unlock unless you go into away mode first. With that said it's not a big deal because I have the keypad I can use so I can still enjoy key-free walks.
It also has wifi built into it already which is nice if you want to be able to lock/unlock your door remotely. However as others have mentioned, the wifi can drain the batteries faster. This model (4th gen) allows you to disable wifi altogether or link it with a bluetooth/wifi bridge instead if you'd prefer to extend battery life. I personally just turned the wifi off. Since I have the keypad if I ever needed an unplanned guest to enter, I'll just give them a code.
I will say as far as installation, I wouldn't say it was hard but it took me like 30 minutes, not 10. Mostly because I didn't realize the pointy bit on the big round part had to be pointing more towards the hinge side of the door when you first put it on. Like if I'm facing my door and the hinges are on the left, the pointy bit has to be pointing at about 10:00 when placed. I was pointing it the other direction and it wouldn't lock that way. I had to watch a few youtube tutorials to figure out what I was doing wrong.
I am grateful for this product. I think it's the only thing on the market that would have fit my door and it works completely as expected if not better. It seems like such a small thing but it's really life-changing and I've honestly been in a good mood all week because I no longer have to deal with the hassle of keys.

Parece que las baterías duran poco. Me empezó a avisar desde hace 14 días de la urgencia de cambiarlas. No he hecho caso y sigue funcionando perfecto. Ya le gané 14 días.
