I like the Apple TV streaming device but hated the Apple remote that came with it. The apple remote was particularly bad for navigating the Spectrum TV app cloud DVR. I tried GE and Inteset remotes but both were clunky in different ways. I finally paid a little more and bought the Channel Master remote. It is what apple should have shipped with the Apple TV. It worked perfectly with the Apple TV, Samsung TV and Samsung sound system out of the box. Navigation mirrors the apple remote except it has buttons. The buttons are much more precise than the apple touch pad. The Channel Master remote has reverse, pause/play and fast forward buttons that work great with the Spectrum app cloud DVR. I am very happy with the Channel Master remote.

I've tried a lot of different interfaces over the past months with an ultimate goal of being able to do streaming TV with two remotes (one for me, one for my wife) that would work simultaneously.

I just bought a couple of these as an experiment and have been very pleasantly surprised. It works immediately out of the box (once you pull the strip to activate the battery) with the Apple TV box, and you can program the on/off and volume keys for your TV, though in some cases I've had to go through 150 to more than 200 trial codes until I got one that worked, but even with all that, it took less than five minutes.

They work on infrared rather than bluetooth, so no pairing required, and that's why you can have more than one of them simultaneously controlling the Apple TV box (great when you need to neutralize your spouse's poor choice of programming!).

It's not perfect - every app might use some of the keys differently, but the remotes are cheap, functional, and highly usable if you don't need the "slickness" of the native Apple TV remote. I've actually hoarded a few extra because I don't think something this good is going to remain this cheap for too long! :)

Apple TV is a great product with the absolutely worst remote control ever. The Channel Master Simple Remote has traditional buttons and works in a reliable and predictable way (you don't have to spend half your time putting closing the Audio menu when you were just trying to jump around in the video).

The control is a good and convenient size. I wouldn't mind if it were a little thinner, but no complaints. Although not designed specifically for AppleTV, it conveniently has a prominent Menu button which is really useful. A number of reviews have commented that they were not able to turn the Apple TV box on with this remote, my Apple TV HD wakes up when I press the Home button. I have an auto-switching HDMI box, so I only need this control to use the TV and AppleTV.

The universal remote feature is a little bit of a pain to set up, but for good reason. Instead of giving you a giant list of possible IR codesets, everything is programmed into the remote. You put it into universal learning mode, then press a button to advance through the built-in presets, checking to see if you have gain volume control. There are many, many combinations in the device - my TV set happened to be about 50 presses in. The remote functions work fine for power, and the volume control correctly operates my Sonos Beam soundbar.

I'm using this with an older Panasonic TV and the (new) Sonos Beam soundbar connected on optical.

You only lose 2 things here - Siri control, and this works only as IR. Not a compromise I would think twice about now that I actually can navigate with intention instead of everything being mis clicks and corrections.

I was very surprised when I unboxed this remote and did absolutely no setup for it to start working. I bought this remote because I dont have a remote for my 4th gen apple TV and the iphone remote was kinda buggy. Took the remote out of the box and wondered "I wonder how I set this up/power it on". Hit a button on the remote and boom it was already working. Not only does this remote work on my apple TV but it also works on my Samsung TV which the apple TV is displayed on. This was a double wammy for me because I also lost the remote to my samsung TV a while back. All buttons work except for the fast forward and backward buttons however the back and forward skip buttons do work. All in all, one of the best purchases I made on amazon due to it exceeding my expectations. IMO way better than having one of the apple TV remotes since its half the price. Not to mention it arrived at my house less than 24 hours after purchase.

They state this is a replacement remote compatible with the Apple TV 4K. It is not fully.
The Vol and Pwr buttons do not function to control the Apple TV system.

This remote is designed as to control the "core" functions of the Apple TV, navigation, menus etc.

The Power and Volume buttons ONLY work as an independent IR controller for a TV or soundbar.
They can NOT control the Apple TVs own system volume control like the Apple remote does.

I use the AppleTV with Bluetooth DAC and headphones/speakers connected to a high end computer monitor with no sound output, or HDMI CEC.
I also occasionally use AirPlay to some HomePod speakers.
This remote can not be a "replacement" in this use case, since pwr and vol do not function.

It also has input lag, about 1 to1.5 secs.

You can not "add this remote" Or "Learn new remote" on the Apple TV, it stops at the second button press step right arrow, says "This key is already in use".

It has very good feel and build quality.
Is NOT backlit, the picture kinda looks like it is, but was not mentioned in the description so I assumed it did not.

I emailed Channel Master about the volume and pwr control issue.
A couple of typical emails came back about how to program the IR for TV/sound bar, which is not applicable to me.
Once i mentioned AirPlay volume control, the rep I was emailing CALLED me.

I was very surprised about this, on a Sunday around 8pm no doubt too.

"Joe" confirmed my discovery that product is designed so that the Vol and Pwr are independent programable IR for TV and sound bar only. Can not control the Apple TV system volume.
He knew exactly what i was trying to do he stated and thought it was best to call me to discuss it vs trying to confer things via email. He was professional and understand...cool dude.

He also stated that they have no IR codes in their system for the Apple TV remotes system Volume or Pwr controls, so there is no way to program those controls.
It maybe that those controls are done via Bluetooth not via IR.

Either way, was quite annoyed about this whole thing, but the Channel Master support rep calling me and addressing my concern so fast, like 20 min after i emailed in, made this experience positive in my mind.
You do not see such good support from companies these days!
I give back 2 stars due to this.
