You play as fbi investigator Francis York Morgan, or "York" who constantly seeks advice from the man inside his head named "zach" during a murder mystery involving a serial killer, what was assumed to be a boring trip to a small village turns into a supernatural thriller with goofy elements here an there as the character in the game have very...odd personality, not to mention the "Sinner Sandwich", yeah, theres that too...
The game has several side quests that are completely optional, but unlock several vehicles, weapons, and story elements, the combat is a cross between resident evil 4 and silent hill from the ps2 days. the game possess survival elements oddly enough such as needing to eat an sleep an maintain hygiene, which neglecting these needs too long will affect the player an npc reactions in conversations such as swatting flies away or covering their noses, watching the detective grow a beard as time goes by is definitely pretty interesting nonetheless.
Another interesting tidbit is the method of travel which is primarily by car(unless you want to walk the entire way) You have to maintain the cars fuel, an vehicles do take damage, you do have turn signals but they are just for show, the head lights are about the same, the windshield wipers are useful if driving in first person as they made it to where the windshield with fog up with rain, oddly enough the rear view mirror does not reflect anything in first-person driving mode.
whenever it rains outside enemies spawn endlessly as the sky turn s an eerie red, giving the player a need to seek shelter as soon as possible, I think this could've been improved upon by the devs a bit, such as making more enemies spawn in locations then ten at a time, which once you learn their movements the enemies are easy to get past, I would hope if there ever was a remaster of this game the devs would make the enemy more aggressive, there are certain parts of the game where I can easily run past everything, or just shoot them all from a distance without moving.
The game does have a pursuer, much like re3 nemesis, there is a ghostly axe murderer constantly searching for you whenever you enter limbo. the chase seens are very button mashy, this is where the resident combat comes into display as it seems like the devs really enjoyed re4 at these moments in the game.
The boss battles are oddly amazing, when I say oddly I mean misleadingly good, I was taken by surprise when these boss battle happen they have a completely different atmosphere to the rest of the game and are very memorable.
"Spoilers ahead"
the games story is pretty solid, the town of Greenvale was subject to the gas from the film the crazies by George Romero, which was released by a demon(yes I know)posing as a US Army NCO... the gas is let loose, everyone murders each other, there blood spoils the ground to the point that the land is haunted by their enraged spirits, and thats pretty much the explanation for the enemies, York on the other hand learns that the killer he'd been searching for this entire time happens to be this demon who is also responsible for the existence of Zach inside Yorks mind(yeah turns out Zach is real). Thats the best way I can explain the games lore without spoiling everything else in the title.
This is in no way a perfect title, but it is most definitely a great title..
one I recommend any switch owner add to their collection...

Worth a play absolutely
The actual game Deadly Premonition Origins itself is a loveable cult horror mystery action game with loveable characters, memes galore, and tense action-horror gameplay somewhat similar to Resident Evil 4. The game is indeed kind of janky and unpolished, but that is kind of the point. The writing, jokes, and visuals are all very memorable, and endearing. I recommend this game to fans of Twin Peaks, Suda51 games, meme games in general, and horror fans.
This indeed is the full game on cart, barring a patch or two. However, very annoyingly, when you insert the cart into your switch, the game is recognized as a completely separate game from the digital eShop version.
The digital eShop verison is listed with Toybox games as the developer/publisher.
This physical version is listed with Aksys as the developer/publisher and is counted in the Switch as an entirely different game. Thus be warned--digital Deadly Premonition Origins save files are not the same as this physical cart's save files. They are not commensurate/interchangeable. You will get two "Deadly Premonition Origin" tiles on your Switch game list/grid.
Very annoying as a collector/Switch enthusiast. You ideally want your physical/digital games to be interchangeable and counted as the same game. Unfortunately the game Voez has this same problem. This problem of duplicate or multiple versions of the same games also exists when using import physical games or different games than your Switches native region. This instance of Deadly Premonition Origins is less understandable because the Aksys release is the North American release, and the Toybox digital release is North American too. Why the redundancy?
