You already know the active steps you take now can improve your overall wellness today, tomorrow and well into your future. And while it seems simple to get out of that chair more often and move, making it stick is another matter. That’s where vívofit can turn good intentions into lifelong habits. It’s the only fitness band that greets you with a personalized daily goal, tracks your progress and reminds you when it’s time to move.

    Personalized Daily Goals

vívofit learns your current activity level, then assigns an attainable daily goal. As you meet your milestones, vívofit will adjust your goal for the next day, gradually nudging you toward a healthier lifestyle. At Garmin Connect™, our free online fitness community, you can earn virtual badges and view your progress.

Tells Time and "Time to Move"

Research shows prolonged periods of inactivity such as sitting at a desk decreases your body’s production of fat-burning enzymes. You can reverse that effect by taking frequent, short walk breaks throughout your day. And while you might lose track of time and forget to move, vívofit knows. A red move bar appears on the display after 1 hour of inactivity and builds when you’ve been sitting too long. Just walk for a couple of minutes to reset the move bar.

    Keep Moving

When you’re ready to take the next steps toward better health, vívofit has additional features to keep you motivated. Use a heart rate monitor¹ with vívofit to record your heart rate and zone data and get more accurate calorie burn information for any fitness activity, such as a run or a cardio class at the gym. At Garmin Connect, you can join online challenges with other vívofit users or start your own competition with friends to compete for virtual badges and bragging rights.

    Always On

vívofit follows your progress 24/7, and it can stay on for more than a year without a battery change. Set the sleep mode when you go to bed and vívofit will monitor your rest. At Garmin Connect, you can see your total sleep hours as well as periods of movement and restful sleep. The vívofit band is water-resistant², so you can shower or get caught in the rain, worry-free.

    Get Connected

With the touch of one button, you can wirelessly sync vívofit with Garmin Connect to see a complete picture of your progress, join online challenges and earn virtual badges for extra motivation. You can access our free online community from your computer or on your compatible mobile device³ with the Garmin Connect™ Mobile app.

Edit: this is my updated review, mostly on durability, my original starts at the bottom. I dad vivofit since June 2014, now being July 2015 I have to really give a final review before moving on to the second gen version. My update the the Vivofit 2 isn't exactly by choice it's by after a year I finally fell victim to the band popping off, but I can't blame Garmin, I went cheap and ordered an off brand black band when I snapped my original purple one from constant use, I suggest shelling out the money for real replacement bands it's not worth losing the tracker.Vivofit is durable, it survived 6 Spartan races and would have kept going had it not popped off in the festival area after the race this past weekend. The screen got a little scratched but again with what I put mine through I couldn't expect otherwise. The pictures attached are from not long before it was lost. Note stuff does get stuck inside where the tracker snaps into the band... But if you're not doing mud races or really spend time to clean it that's not a problem (I didn't want to spend the time and it never bothered me, had some Georgia clay with me for quite some time) and the 40,000 steps one was after one of the last Spartan races it survived. I suggest it for sure and already have my Vivofit 2 on the way since I've horribly missed my original in the 2 days without it!-----------(original review below) -----------I had a fitbit one (it was found so I only paid to get the charger and wireless dongle) but I was frustrated I always had to charge it and would often forget to put it back on, and I couldn't wear it in the shower so it was missing steps I was taking. I was looking into other fitness trackers since I liked the idea of them and wanted to be able to use it especially swimming since living on a lake means a lot of water time in the summer months. I was looking into the polar loop but hated how it wouldn't sync with my phone, this one still doesn't, (I have an LG Optimus L9 so not very popular and I live with the fact that I have to go to the computer to sync daily but can still view the stats on my app. Syncing to the computer can be a pain sometimes since it'll say it failed to sync a few times then will one time all of a sudden without problem.I LOVE how the battery life is up to a year+ because then I really don't have to take it off ever, I didn't even realize other people felt the same way enough for Garmin to be excited for this feature. As with any "waterproof" electronics I get skeptical that maybe it will still break, but yesterday was the first ocean day, hours in the water its completely fine.I got the HRM package set, works good, I can often forget I have it on (I am a lady though so its no real different to the bra strap feeling when I wear it all the time, Never slides down at the gym. I origionally wore it constantly to bed and everything but your skin sweats under it and stays and it got itchy so I take it off at night now. Havent used it in the water sine I swim for fun not training, but I can imagine that although the piece is waterproof the elastic based band wouldn't fair too well with constant water use, but any other way it wouldn't be comfortable on your skin all the time. Many people complain about how it hooks but I don't see the problem. Its helpful at the gym not to have to hold the treadmill's HRM which throws off my running momentum taking away my arms, and its good to keep me aware of my anxiety and familiarize myself with what's normal for my heart, while its consumer grade so not recommended as reliable if you have a preexisting problem, I know that if something is going wrong heart-wise i'll have early notice, and while i'm still young heart disease is in the family, so good to keep watch early. My only complaint is, I go the purple band so it wouldn't look to masculine on my wrist. but in less than a month ownership a dark collection of wear has started around ridges of the band. Makes me wish I got black but i'm still happy I got the purple since its a lovely color!Definitely recommend it!Pros: waterproof, very long battery life compared to competition, not too clunky or masculine looking, came already paired to the HRM I got with it (saved many confusing steps usually associated with pairing). Cons: Quirks when syncing (please let me know if none of you have had small troubles because if its the case that its my computer its not a quirk, either way its easy to work through just have to sync it a few more times for it to actually connect. There's no backlight so setting it to sleep mode you have to find a light to see the screen, but I personally prefer the battery life to the light, I just know its a common complaint from people.

I've had my band for about a week -- and it's been a week of learning about myself. Like many people, I've settled into a pretty sedentary life and wanted a tool to help me remember to exercise more and eat less. I don't have very current smart phone, so I needed something that interfaced with my laptop rather than my phone. I've been happy with my Garmin GPS, so I decided to give the Vivo-fit a spin. It didn't hurt that I found it on a sale (because it's an older model) and it was much less expensive than its competitors.

Not only do I love it, it's got me moving and I've lost a couple pounds already. I would have guessed that I was mostly sedentary at my office and was active on the weekends to make up for it. Not the case at all. Now I pay attention more to when I just veg out on the couch and at least get up and move every so often. The red indicator is a good motivator without being too obnoxious. The step count reminds me to move more in the morning and not save so much up for after dinner (when I don't feel like moving at all.)

The band is fairly comfortable and there is a latch that keeps it from falling off that they must have added (which I read was a problem previously). I wouldn't say it was the most attractive design -- sometimes I wonder if people think it's a tracker for a prison-release program -- but I can get different colors if I want. I take it off when I shower, but I like that if I got it wet, it wouldn't really be a problem. I tried using the sleep mode for the first few days, but now I take it off at night as well. All my night time reports seemed to be about the same and I don't really care about that.

I'm not sure how accurate the step counts are. It seems to register a combination of moving forward and moving your arm. Sometimes when I'm driving, I notice I've logged a bunch of steps. On the other hand, if you are carrying something or pushing a cart, it registers nothing. (I was incensed to find the other day that an hour's worth of grocery shopping counted as "not moving for an hour" even though I tried to push the cart with my other hand.) My feeling is that for my purposes, it probably evens out.

The Garmin Connect dashboard is easy to use and is also a pretty good motivator. If my PC is up and running, I just have to push the button on the Vivofit to sync it. There are all sorts of metrics and reports to look at and the little green bars give me a sense of accomplishment. One panel selects a few random people who are about as active as you are to "race" against for steps. That's kinda fun. There are also groups you can join or create if you'd like that as a motivator. I was able to connect the dashboard to MyFitnessPal and I log my approximate calories for each meal; It's got a good database for foods -- pretty much what used to do with the WW program, but this one is free.

All in all, I'm very pleased with my new little task-master. I wish I'd gotten one years ago.

I love this item! It was so simple yet so effective and comfortable. It syncs easily with the app on my ipad also unlike some I have purchased and sent back. I have worn it as my primary watch for well over a year now and still have not had to change the battery! I have popped it in and out of other coloured straps and swam with it in multiple pools and oceans and it just keeps going. I bought the Garmin swim for my son who is a life guard and he stays waterproof also and works well.

I wear this thing every day, and it can sure take a beating. I would recommend this device to anyone especially if they were looking at a fitbit.

Great fitness band. I knew it was not Version 2 and figured the price difference was worth not having a backlight etc. For me, that was a good choice. Glad to know I won't have to deal with battery issues for a year. The band seems very well attached - in fact it's difficult to open, so having the band accidentally snap open doesn't seem likely (the only concern I had when ordering)
