A fantastic drive, worthy of the purchase. But be aware of the occasional shipping issue if you're on a deadline.

A fantastic drive, worthy of the purchase. But be aware of the occasional shipping issue if you're on a deadline.
I've ordered four of these drives (at different times) so far, as they're truly excellent drives. However, I already had to send one back as DOA (wouldn't properly spin up when powered), and I'm about to send my recently ordered drive back as well. I just received it, and upon opening the sealed retail box, it's pretty clear that this drive is a refurb / return unit. The moisture barrier / anti-static bag was already torn open with the removed top of the bag stuffed into the bag itself. There was also - for some reason? - an additional top torn-off strip of a second bag stuffed into the bag. So, only one static bag, but two torn off tops stuffed inside. The little plastic baggy of mountain screws were also missing entirely. There are some minor cosmetic scratches on the top of the drive as well. Those aren't a major issue of course, but just points to the drive being handled more than usual.I typically don't mind buying refurb units for most items (if the price is right), but not when it comes to something I need to rely on in terms of long term data storage and integrity. I'm still planning on buying more of these drives though, as they really are worth it. And while I technically have a 50% return rate at this point, I understand that sometimes 'tish' happens. DOAs do occur, and sometimes the wrong drive gets shipped out. It's a minor hassle that won't steer me away from good quality production.
