It's more of a puzzle game, not really an action game, I think people give it bad reviews because they didn't know what to expect. The always-online connection requirement is annoying, but if you have bad internet I could see how it would be absolutely game-breaking, DRM harms more legit customers than thwarts pirates.
The game is not perfect, but overall it is fantastic. Although there's only 6 missions, 5 of them are huge with numerous paths to completion, which the game can guide you with. It's not meant to be played once, you get your money's worth by replaying and trying different things, that is the true experience. It's actually a very big and robust game if you play it that way. However, I still prefer the old model, more numerous but smaller levels, but I'll take what I can get.
Tips: The enemy characters are oblivious to your actions so if you want a challenge amp up the difficulty. Disguises are nessecary to blend in and be careful to not make the NCP's get suspicious. If they become suspicious they'll engage you mabye. If you are engaged take yourself to the nearest enclosed room with one door. When the guard comes in the room beat him up and take his uniform. Then walk out and you'll get your suspicion rate down. Save periodically just in case you mess up. You can later go back to the spot you were and go on again. The game will also autosave throughout. If you want access to all of the games content consider paying the 59.99$.
If the formula is great then don't change it! I hope they will add more locations to this game in future DLC. Keep the targets coming!!
That said the interface tries to do way too much. The game has decided you would like to redo every mission and provided multiple side objectives. While redo was an option with the first game, choosing from redo missions just inserts yet another screen you have to figure out how to back out of. Moving to the next mission is confusing as you have too many decisions to make before you start. The game play is roughly the same with no improvement for the climb feature to be able to ascend simple things like boxes. It would be a much better game if it allowed more agility. Another annoying feature is having to open your weapon screen to make obvious choices. Yes I want to use the lockpick to open the door...have a better suggestion?
I played through the opening mission and completed the training part then played the Miami sequence which was very confusing at first as certain choices at a work station were greyed out. It wasn't clear what you had to do to make them work and takeout your first hit. She kept driving her race car without coming in to the pit where you were waiting [this is a problem in many parts of the game]. There were also choices for taking out the pit crew that are useless to the first mission and counterproductive to your score. Suddenly the greyed out choices started working but I'm not sure why. This was related to those redo missions which should be shut down on the first run through but are not.
They need to do some work on the missions themselves. I played one mission last night where I couldn't trigger an important event. I set the trap for the hit at a planned event and the hit never went to it. Then they wanted me to put on a costume that did nothing for the game. I also found a costume that was never used. People wouldn't drink their poison and the only folks around to eliminate were non-target characters you lose points for. This is caused by a failure to isolate those other missions you can choose on redo in the same location. For instance, at one point the game wanted me to take an item that was difficult to get and had nothing to do with the current mission. These things are very confusing because you are given so little guidance. Would stealing the object have triggered the event I was waiting for or was it just another redo artifact? An hour or two of that kind of hunting and second guessing gets frustrating. If you like Hitman it is still a good game but the guidance system could use a lot of work. The "clues" are often hard to fathom as well. I kept being told to go to a character. He had nothing to say to me other than to report me to the guards. So the next reload I knocked him out and put on his clothes. I hid the body and the game continued to tell me to go to him! The clue never did turn off which was confusing when I was using the map to navigate. Redo artifact?
Graphically the world starts out with some really nice images of sea grass and a house on the ocean, but the Miami segment that followed could have been a racetrack anywhere. No real sense of place like The Assassins Creed series. I was hoping for better this time. I also discovered very few of the 20 locations you get credit for. The ones I found were not worth the time. A blind alley with trash...that is an accomplishment?? I should look for more of those?? I hope it improves. Its not terrible, its just not better than the last one. And if you don't play those side missions you find that the credits roll much too soon.
