An absolute must-have for Animal Crossing, imo

An absolute must-have for Animal Crossing, imo
This controller makes it incredibly easy to:- Buy products en masse from Nook’s, Leif, Kick’s, etc.- Shake trees and pick up the drops—like acorns, pine cones, and ornaments—while AFK (set both Y and A on turbo, and your character will constantly both shake the tree and pick up whatever drops directly under your feet)-Craft items en masse (did you know that tapping A while your character is doing the crafting animation speeds it up?? Neither did I, until I got this controller!)-Automatically pick up flowers, weeds, shells, mushrooms, and all other items from the ground as you walk over themI’ve had this controller for months and only returned to this page to recommend it enthusiastically to a friend, so I figured I might as well recommend it to everyone else too. Best investment I’ve made in a long time!!

There's a lot of discussion about various kinds of directional pads on Switch controllers and their respective strengths and weaknesses. I personally rather like the Switch split d-pad, and when I saw the Horipad offered something similar for a low price, I decided to take the plunge. An additional controller would be helpful for multiplayer as well as allowing me to leave the Joycons attached to the system (for single player), but even if the Horipad let me down I wouldn't be out much cash.

First, I have to note that the separate directional buttons did not live up to expectations. They have far too much travel and are too far indented into the controller to make their use practical. I gave up on them the first day and put the conventional d-pad attachment back on.

And used in that fashion, the Horipad is actually quite good. Sure, there's no rumble or motion controls, but I could just go back to the Joycons if I actually missed them (I don't). It's not wireless, but the cord is plenty long (and sturdy). And yes, the plastic feels less premium than the Pro controller and it's possible to tilt the d-pad in such a way that an "unexpected" diagonal or perpendicular direction is registered, although you'd almost have to go out of your way to make that happen. But for the most part, this is a reliable, comfortable controller, and one I'd easily choose to use over the standard Xbox One (S), PS4/DS4, or Switch Pro controller in any sort of environment where I didn't need to go wireless.

I still stand by what I said about Horipad: One of the best 3rd party controllers out there!

If I had more funds, I'd definitely buy more replacements so others could play with them, and in case someone games too hard, haha.

Hard to believe that this is so cheap. I feel like I don't have to worry breaking this thing, but it's very good quality actually. It feels really comfortable and I don't really have any issues with it. The thing I was worried about was the D-Pad, but it actually just feels pretty good. The D-Pad does click a little, but it's not really that annoying or noticeable when I'm playing games.

Anyways, really good. I might buy another one at some point.

Nintendo's Pro controller is really enjoyable to use The HORI controller is a bit on the awkward side and feels more rough to use. On the plus side (I think), the directional pad is harder to hit on accident, which can be a real pain in Smash Bros. Additionally, this controller seemed to have less snapback problems on the control stick than the Pro controller I started with (although that could just be a defect rather than the normal performance, but defects are common in controllers, I believe). This controller is also better for doing tilt attacks to some attacks, as it becomes harder to do smash attacks. At the same time, it feels like this controller sometimes fails to register the movements properly and I get stuck walking when I try to run, even when I double tap sometimes. This makes me think the HORI controller is less responsive than the true Pro controller. Additionally, this controller is super loud, which is partially because it has worse control sticks, but also, every button on the controller seems to make a lot of noise no matter what. You probably will drive someone insane if they are trying to sleep and your noise is not insulated from them. Lastly, although the snapback on this controller was infrequent at first, it seems like it is equal, if not worse than the official Pro controller after you have used it enough. I have had inputs happen that seemed completely impossible. I still think once I adjust to the controller enough, I can play around all of these problems, but this is still a very loud controller, probably the loudest I ever used.

Oh yeah, and for the directional pad... when I first got it, it almost felt broken. I have not really tested it, but thankfully it feels more properly balanced (for some reason) after I used the controller long enough. I tried playing Skullgirls with it but it did not feel especially useful even though I heard this style was better for 2D fighters. However, the pro-controller directional pad is pretty stiff, although I still think it could work better. At least HORI has come out with a dedicated fighting controller since the first time I looked at this controller. It looks like it does not use this weird directional pad style either.

One last thing... The cord is more ideal for me, which is probably why I probably would still use this controller over the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller. Not only does it work through a true physical connection, but it also has a great length to the cable. It should be functional in most setups. I do not like relying on something with an internal battery that might fail one day, as well as something that might be impacted by other wireless signals. The main downside is that you always need to occupy a USB slot. Not sure what is a good way to extend the USB on Nintendo Switch either.

I purchased this for use with my switch and PC games. So far I've had no issues with the device, and am greatly enjoying the turbo feature for easy item farming.

The feel of the controller itself is a bit of a mixed bag -- the buttons and joysticks are responsive and have good resistance, but the casing overall is made of a very light and cheaper plastic compared to my Pro Controllers. Its grip is comfortable regardless -- and while It does not seem to be able to wake a switch from sleep, it is perfectly fine once paired to your device.

I would suggest gentle use with the controller, as it may not stand up to the wear and tear of more intense play styles.

Needed these to play Mario Kart with my family, and they work just fine. They are a bit light, but work as they should. I don't use that dpad much, but it's a bit weird. It can be removed and be used as an up, down, left, and write button opposed to a traditional dpad. I don't use it, so I have no problem with it. Buttons are not mushy which is great. Triggers click, but I have no problem with that. I play Smash A LOT and over time, the upper dpad rubber wore down and eventually fell off. That was after ~200 hours of smash. Honestly, this might be one of the better budget controllers. If you need extra controllers for a few friends, this would work fine. Cord length is not a problem either. I've used every controller under the sun (am currently using a pro controller for the switch and an xbox one S controller for my computer) and there's a ton of value in the controller. Nintendo even has their name on the box. If Nintendo is willing to endorse it, that speaks volumes.
