The bike arrived by UPS in a large box that was well packaged, well insulated, and undamaged. It took two of us to set it upright because it is over 100 lbs, and when you open the top of the box, there is a printed instruction for this. The bottom of the box needs to be opened and the flaps either cut off or folded back to set the bike upright and then the box can be pulled off the top. The rest could be done with just one person. It had a minimum of parts to assemble and the instructions in the booklet were simple and easy to follow. I attached my own pedals so that I can clip in and use my cycling shoes, so I cannot comment on the pedals the bike came with other than they seemed as heavy duty as any in a club setting. I appreciated that the bike came with the tools needed to set it up and was a nice surprise. All the tolerances were tight, and the inside of all the tubes for the handlebars, the seat post and the slider are greased and ready. I would advise having a paper towel handy to wipe your hands. There are plastic tabs just inside the seat post and the handlebar post that need to be pushed in out of the way to slide those into place, and you will have messy hands from sticking your fingers inside. The water bottle holder was a nice addition, as some of the Sunny models I considered didn't have one. Two would have been even better.
This morning I took my first ride. The saddle was well shaped and not uncomfortable. I don't dislike the covering over the handlebars, but it is different from the club bikes I have used. It does seem to tolerate sweat and moisture on it well, and that is what counts. I really like the adjustment stops and how they screw down. I am definitely an advocate for these over the slider stop types, despite the argument for a more precise fit. I have seen these loosen and even fall in classes before. They are not my preference. That being said, this is not a bike for anyone under about 5'2. I am barely 5'3 and I am on the lowest seat and handlebar setting, which fits me perfectly. My husband is 6'0 tall, so this bike will fit him very well, and I opted for this model for two main reasons: the chain drive and the 49 lb flywheel, both giving a smoother and more realistic feeling ride. A belt or magnetic resistance just do not provide the same quality as a chain does. I really liked seeing that the chain was completely encased, which is a new feature to me, and something I think is beneficial. If you happen to wear pants riding, they are not going to get caught, which I have also seen while teaching. I may try to adjust the pad on the flywheel a bit to give more room for resistance, but other than that, the bike rode smoothly and well, and there was no difference in feel and quality of my ride on this bike than a very expensive club bike. I am impressed and feel that I have received a huge value with a very high quality piece of fitness equipment for a very good price. The only thing that disappointed me was seeing the "Made in China" stamp on it, but if it makes anyone feel even better about considering this for purchase, the really expensive bikes are made there as well and always have been!
All in all, I am so excited to be able to have this piece of equipment in my home for our private use. The gym I train in has bikes that are belt driven (not this brand) and the gearing is weird and they don't feel good to ride. I am also very excited at the price we paid as we were considering shelling out quite a bit more and getting a club level bike from a well known manufacturer. Sunny has done an excellent job of bringing a quality product into the home market, and I look forward to many years riding my bike and enjoying a safe, fun and effective way to be fit and healthy.
I'm 6'5", 260lbs, and this bike fits me well enough and feels very sturdy.
My one big complaint is that the handlebars aren't very adjustable relative to the seat - if I could only move them up and toward me a couple inches more I would say this bike is perfect.
The seat is only ok, but it's easily swappable with any standard bike seat. The pedals are also interchangeable with your standard ones.
This bike was pretty easy to put together and came with the necessary tools, it took about 30 minutes. It is seriously heavy. You'll probably want help moving it to where you're going to assemble it - but once it is put together one person can easily wheel it around.
Not so with this bike. This cycle is built like a tank. Truly heavy-duty components. Set up was a breeze. Only about 20 minutes to put it together. Although the cycle lacks an adjustment for the handlebar distance, I didn't miss it at all. The design of the handlebars and the seat distance adjustments allowed me to put my hands exactly where I needed them. I am 5' 9", so pretty average sized. Truth be told, I fell off the exercise wagon and packed on the pounds over the past year, now tipping the scale at 245 lbs. The real test of any spin bike is how it handles with maximum resistance when you are "getting up on it" (standing on the pedals) with maximum torque. This machine was ROCK SOLID. No rocking motion AT ALL. The cycle stayed put. Even better, it is VERY quiet. I'm in an apartment and will have no problem taking a ride in the middle of the night without the worry of disturbing others. The friction adjustment is smooth. Thanks to the inertia of a heavier flywheel, the ride is exceptionally realistic.
Honestly, the only real difference I can tell between the Sunny Health and the high-end Kaiser machine is the lack of an onboard computer. The Kaiser has a wonderful Bluetooth enabled computer that tracks every aspect of your workout. The Sunny Health has nothing. My thought in that regard is, "So what?" I spent $150 on a Fitbit Alta HR, so wearing that, I am able to track my heart rate and manually enter the workout. The Fitbit gives me an accurate calorie count. Since weight loss is my goal, that's all I really care about.
Other reviews complain about the seat. I have no complaint thus far. It's firm - which is good, in my opinion. If it becomes a problem, it is easy to replace.
I can wholeheartedly recommend this spin bike. I still can't believe it only set me back about three bills.
