ASUS TUF X299 MARK 2 has great Linux compatibility
I bought this for a new system I built and wanted something solid and reliable and have had good results with ASUS before. However, I had concerns about its compatibility with Linux. Linux seems to Just work with most hardware these days, but you never know with a new generation of product like the X299 chipset and i9 processors.I need not have worried. This motherboard works perfectly with Linux and the existing video card ( Radeon HD 6870 ) I moved from my old system. The onboard sound works fine. I also just moved my 3 hard drives from the old machine and everything just booted up to Fedora 27 without the slightest hitch. Performance is exceptional and I have not even started tinkering with the overclocking.I highly recommend this motherboard.

I purchased this Motherboard (ASUS TUF MARK 2) the moment it came out and watch as it was flooded with Horrible reviews of how there were so many issues with the bios. I finished my build and started it up, installed the OS, updated all the drivers and everything worked at it should be. I love this board and the only reason I will be leaving 4 stars is because I do not trust updating the bios and risking it based on what I saw from other reviews. Otherwise everything has been going smoothly and the bios is easy to navigate.

    Specs:
    Intel Core I9X 7900x
    32gb DDR4 2800mhz ram
    GTX 1080 founders

I will update this review once the bios is ready to be updated.

I have the newer X series processors so this motherboard was a must need. The first launches of this motherboard were horrendous. I had 3 motherboards fry and finally decided to wait till they did some revamping. I bought the latest release within the X299 series and this motherboard is going strong for over a year and a half now (Knocks on wood)

Love this motherboard, works great on intel processor got for clearance price. The bios is probably the best there is, I stick with ASUS now because of this. The bios is so easy to use and has so many options and ez update. Everything is just detected in windows and I do not have to jack with things, just update, install, go... so awesome. The board looks great, my m2 ssd runs very fast.

I assembled my game box and waisted 2 days until I realized that only two RAM slots out of the 8 were working. I had to disassemble all the parts and send it back and buy a new one, and wasted so much effort and time. It's weird that such a basic quality control was not done before shipping this.

I wasted three days debugging a faulty onboard Ethernet port. I'm sharing my experience so others can hopefully save some time:
    - Brand new everything (motherboard, DRAM, CPU Core I9-7900X, M.2 960 Pro drive, ...) except for my two Nvidia-based graphic cards.
    - New install of Windows 10 Pro Creator...

    1. I booted, all looked good: Browsing, no issue with any drivers.
    2. Then I ran Adobe Lightroom and it is sloooooow. My first day was spent believing it was a problem with Lighroom (my photos are on a separate server/windows machine).
    3. I realized it was actually the network being slow, at 1MBps on a Gigabit network !
    4. Copying from another Windows machine to this machine/motherboard is SLOW.
    5. Copying from this machine to another one is OK.
    6. Running iperf3 showed good results.
    7. Internet browsing is OK.

I bought a cheap 1Gbps NIC, plugged it onto PCIe, and voila, back to full speed. Clearly, the Ethernet port on the motherboard has some serious issues. Is it the motherboard, the driver, Windows Explorer? Very likely a combination of them that generates this issue. By the time you read this, ASUS, Intel or Microsoft may have fixed the problem. Until then, you may run into the same issue.

Other than that, all is good.

This is my second Mark 2 TUF board - couldn't be happier with the power, durability, and options. If you're building workstations with the intent on casual gaming (why the h*ll would you buy anything else).
Intel is 'sliding on ice' trying to compete with the pricing of AMD Gaming - they won't let you/me upgrade anything past 18 months. (I.E. brought a Z270 2 years ago & can't put that beautiful 8700k processor on it bc the power requirements are not sufficient???????) I smell a big heap of marketing garbage with that one. But, the X299 platform has one of the best gaming processors (i7 7740X Quad Core) - with the best options for upgrades???
And guess what? The X299 platform will soon offer a 22-core processor (for the insane price of everything else in this world that has quality)
    >My build: ASUS Mark 2 X299; 32 GB DDR4 Vengeance; RTX 2080 (if not stolen in mail); i7 7800X (bc gaming & workstations are X299 lovely). I'm not an enthusiast - but, the X299 platform is a beautiful start.
