Before I say anything else I want to say. I waited WAY too long to get a remote for the Xbox One. If you recently got an Xbox One as a gift for someone or for yourself. Buy a remote! especially if you didn't get a play and charge kit, you will be a lot happier overall. It will be worth it later.I've also included photos of this remote and comparison photos to my other two remotes (Tv remote and Cable remote) along side the MS Media remote.Quick non-wordy breakdown: Pros:- Easy to use.- Battery saver.- Great for Media (Netflix, blu-ray, youtube, etc..)- Backlit for night time visibility (lights up when moved.)- Comfortable in the hand.- Didn't cost 25 bucks... Cons:- Buttons are very "Firm".- Backlighting only lasts a few seconds- Button arrangement/layout leaves something to be desired.I like the feel of the remote and how brightly it can glow. I also appreciate that it came with a pair of batteries. However, it only stays lit for a few seconds and it dims in like 2-3 seconds leaving you little time to find buttons in the dark if you happen to be looking for a specific button. The top most button "dashboard" button does not light up at all and neither do the A, B, X, and Y buttons. They do have a nice bright paint on them though which is great if you do have light to see them...It's super easy to use. Just point and click once the batteries are in.I like the idea that this remote is an all in one including the normal controller buttons. However, I'd really like it if the 'back' button or the B button were closer to the radial selector. I feel like the Microsoft remote has a better overall layout in this regard. It's a lot more like a normal TV remote in the layout making a bit more intuitive to use. I'd also like to say that the buttons, especially the radial selector are a bit firm. By that I mean the force needed to actually press the button is more than I'd like it to be. Feels like I have to press through the layer of silicone or rubber material in order to press it. In comparison, the Microsoft remote while similar is still much easier to press the buttons on. (Not a huge problem but definitely something I'm not a fan of.)I like how it feels in my hand and the material feels the same overall as the Microsoft Media remote. If I was to break this down into a price basis. You technically get a lot more for the same overall quality and feel as the Microsoft Media remote. However, I do not have my cable hooked up into the Xbox One so I cannot test that portion and I'm not sure how useful the added buttons like the number pad really are. Apparently, I cannot even turn the volume up or down unless this is done. A huge drawback.UpdateI never did plug this in to the Charger TV cable while we had it. Just never enough reason to try it.The little plastic tabs inside apparently break very easily. Not news to me but I wish they'd use some aluminum or something instead. As I've seen this a lot. Fortunately the back cover does still stay on but slides off or pops off easily. Still, not a deal breaker with how long I've had the remote. Probably no one cares anymore with newer xboxs and the like.As a side note. You know the batteries are getting low by the level of light the poor thing is willing to emit. I've since decided that a remote like this doesn't need to be so bright. Just bright enough that if you do need to see some of the buttons, you can. Since I feel this wares the batteries down fairly quickly for almost no reason at all. (I have a cat. If I leave the remote on the bed and she moves it. It lights up. I move it it lights up. A waste of battery life.)

I've had this remote now for roughly 7 years and used with my Xbox One. I mostly use the Xbox for streaming, and this remote makes navigating the menus and playing dvds a lot easier. The light-up buttons is something I now NEED. It's just so handy when you're watching a movie in a dark room to have the buttons light up. And they light up when the remote is moved / titled, not just if pressing a button. When the batteries start to die the button lights dim and each time I realize how necessary light up buttons are!

The only thing after 7 years that has any problem is the battery door -- and that's because I would for whatever reason click it back and forth as I was listening to music just for something to do -- so it has loosened up :) But that's really saying something after it's been dropped on the carpet numerous times and has been our daily driver for navigating streaming services all these years.

I would not hesitate to buy this remote again!

We use our Xbox for everything. We don't have cable, we use streaming services for tv entertainment as well as music. Our Xbox gets alot of use. I have always disliked the Xbox controllers for things like Netflix, movies, Pandora, ect. Obviously the controllers shut off to conserve battery life, but it's annoying having to turn it on and wait for it to connect. It only takes about 30 seconds but it annoys me. Also, everyone always leaves the batteries dead for mom.. It got pretty stressful trying to change a song on Pandora, or tell Netflix yes I was still watching the same show I've been watching for years. The remote on the Xbox app for the phone was nice, but unless I left it on and kept the screen on, it would close and took even longer to connect to. I finally resorted to keeping my phone on the charger with the Xbox app remote on my phone all day. It would die quickly if I didn't keep it on the charger.... This remote solved ALL of my problems. Right out of the box it worked with my xbox, even came with batteries! The whole remote even the buttons are very sleek and smooth. I love that it lights up! After reading other comments about the light shutting off to quickly I figured that might bother me. It did for the first day. Now I know where the buttons I need are so I actually like that it turns of quickly. The light is very low so it's perfect for watching TV in the dark. The remote needs to actually move to have the light come on which is nice, if you bump it or shake your leg or something it doesn't turn on. My mother is now also using a Xbox for entertainment, no gaming, and I ordered her one as well. She loves it! Our Xbox also has a numbered child lock to block apps like YouTube from our daughter. With this remote I can just enter the code with the numbers, rather then before having to enter the numbers with the different buttons on the Xbox controller. Same thing with entering payment information. Putting card numbers in now is so easy! We've had them for over a month, daily use, No complaints so far. If you do more than just game with your Xbox, you need this.

Original Review I shall leave below further below:
I found it so hard to believe it was something wrong with my new XBOX remote as the strangest things began happening in my living room with ALL of my remotes, THEN IT HIT ME!
I recently re-arranged my living room and moved my HTC VIVE VR setup into the living room. I thought my remotes were on the fritz (All of them, LG TV, Dell Projector, Vizio Soundbar, Xbox Media Remote), but come to find out, the HTC VIVE IR Towers produce such a powerful Infrared Interference when the stations are plugged in that they actually were blocking all other IR transmitting devices! Who'da thunk it! Needless to say, I leave my HTC VIVE base stations on smart switches and only turn them on when I plan to game in VR.
Moral of the story, 5 stars to the PDP Media XBOX remote. I am thrilled with it! I have the multi-use button programmed to open Hulu with 1 click which is convenient for watching live TV on my Hulu Subscription.
Thanks PDP for producing such a great product!

Original Review:
This remote was exactly what I needed. Functioned right out of the box with no setup needed on the Xbox. I especially liked the ability to update the shortcut button to be able to open Hulu with one click as I stream Hulu plus for live tv.

However...after several months my Xbox does not respond to input from the Talon. The backlighting still functions on the remote as if it were sending commands however I can no longer use. I tried new batteries however I am having to revert back to using a standard Xbox controller to navigate. Very unfortunate as I loved this remote. I was using more than the controller! Would have been a 5 star review for simplicity, appearance, backlighting, shortcut key and feel in hand. Knocking off 2 stars for short MTBF.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must have for anyone using Xbox as a media player
Reviewed in India on August 30, 2021
I dint like the idea of spending almost 2K for a remote. But I am glad I did. It's a very high quality remote, made with premium materials and has all the quirks and functionalities to completely transform your Xbox as a media player. You can effectively get rid of your controller if you don't play the games.
The backlight gets activated based on motion, so the remote lights up as soon as you pick it which is quite helpful in dark environments. The button controls are good. If anything, I wish it had swipe controls similar to that of the Apple TV remote to scroll up and down.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really Great Remote!
Reviewed in Canada on November 13, 2019
Got one of these since while I had a PS4 media remote, I was kind of underwhelmed by it, and because my friends all play Xbox One, it was pretty inconvenient to switch to PS4 just to watch videos or movies.

The remote doesn't need to be paired, as it can control any Xbox One through its front IR receiver, even in Power Saving mode. Putting the batteries in and turning on your Xbox with it for the first time is magical, as it responds instantly. This ability to control any X1 out of the box is also extremely convenient for me, as there's two X1's in my house, and I can also take it with me to my friends' houses if we plan to watch movies there. The only problem with this method as opposed to Bluetooth like on PS4 remotes is that you'll need to point directly at the Xbox to control it--but that's something we've dealt with since the 80's, anyway.

The build quality is magnificent, especially for its price. It's made with matte plastic, with texturing that makes it feel super premium. A glossy plastic strip runs along the sides of the remote to cleverly mask the infrared receiver at the top of the remote, and there isn't even a visible cutout for the battery compartment--the entire bottom comes off to reveal the AAA batteries underneath. The buttons all have a satisfying clickiness to them, and have the same texturing as the remote body, making sure the whole thing feels consistent. The remote's buttons also have a backlight that turns on when a button is pressed or it detects movement; the lighting is just strong enough to let you clearly see, but not bright enough to be distracting if you've turned the lights down for a movie. The ABXY buttons and Xbox button aren't backlit, however.

The button layout is slightly awkward compared to other remotes. While I greatly appreciate the ABXY buttons being put in a flattened diamond shape, what makes the layout awkward is how the playback controls, as well as Start and Select (or Menu and View, as you might call them), are put up at the very top with the Xbox button. I'm very much used to remotes that put the playback controls below the D-pad, so it feels kind of off in this regard.

A big caveat if you plan to use this remote, or any Xbox One remote for that matter, is that X1 remotes are incapable of controlling the TV directly, and must send the signal to the X1 which then relays it to the TV. This doesn't sound bad at first--and it isn't, if your TV can send and receive signals via HDMI--but the Xbox One lacks an IR emitter, meaning you'll need to either buy an external one that hooks up via a 3.5mm jack on the back, or an entire Kinect. Yeah... I actually have a Kinect, and as a result it works quite consistently, but at one point I also had an external IR emitter, and that was pretty unreliable since I couldn't stick it to my TV's IR emitter directly. This isn't really a fault of the remote, however; this is just due to shortsightedness on Microsoft's part when it came to designing the Xbox One--remember that at one point the Kinect was not only standard, but required.

Anyway, this is an excellent remote, that plays to the Xbox One's strengths well and also works despite the console's weaknesses. Certainly worth it if you like using your X1 for playing and streaming media.
