The only thing after 7 years that has any problem is the battery door -- and that's because I would for whatever reason click it back and forth as I was listening to music just for something to do -- so it has loosened up :) But that's really saying something after it's been dropped on the carpet numerous times and has been our daily driver for navigating streaming services all these years.
I would not hesitate to buy this remote again!
I found it so hard to believe it was something wrong with my new XBOX remote as the strangest things began happening in my living room with ALL of my remotes, THEN IT HIT ME!
I recently re-arranged my living room and moved my HTC VIVE VR setup into the living room. I thought my remotes were on the fritz (All of them, LG TV, Dell Projector, Vizio Soundbar, Xbox Media Remote), but come to find out, the HTC VIVE IR Towers produce such a powerful Infrared Interference when the stations are plugged in that they actually were blocking all other IR transmitting devices! Who'da thunk it! Needless to say, I leave my HTC VIVE base stations on smart switches and only turn them on when I plan to game in VR.
Moral of the story, 5 stars to the PDP Media XBOX remote. I am thrilled with it! I have the multi-use button programmed to open Hulu with 1 click which is convenient for watching live TV on my Hulu Subscription.
Thanks PDP for producing such a great product!

Original Review:
This remote was exactly what I needed. Functioned right out of the box with no setup needed on the Xbox. I especially liked the ability to update the shortcut button to be able to open Hulu with one click as I stream Hulu plus for live tv.
However...after several months my Xbox does not respond to input from the Talon. The backlighting still functions on the remote as if it were sending commands however I can no longer use. I tried new batteries however I am having to revert back to using a standard Xbox controller to navigate. Very unfortunate as I loved this remote. I was using more than the controller! Would have been a 5 star review for simplicity, appearance, backlighting, shortcut key and feel in hand. Knocking off 2 stars for short MTBF.

The backlight gets activated based on motion, so the remote lights up as soon as you pick it which is quite helpful in dark environments. The button controls are good. If anything, I wish it had swipe controls similar to that of the Apple TV remote to scroll up and down.
The remote doesn't need to be paired, as it can control any Xbox One through its front IR receiver, even in Power Saving mode. Putting the batteries in and turning on your Xbox with it for the first time is magical, as it responds instantly. This ability to control any X1 out of the box is also extremely convenient for me, as there's two X1's in my house, and I can also take it with me to my friends' houses if we plan to watch movies there. The only problem with this method as opposed to Bluetooth like on PS4 remotes is that you'll need to point directly at the Xbox to control it--but that's something we've dealt with since the 80's, anyway.
The build quality is magnificent, especially for its price. It's made with matte plastic, with texturing that makes it feel super premium. A glossy plastic strip runs along the sides of the remote to cleverly mask the infrared receiver at the top of the remote, and there isn't even a visible cutout for the battery compartment--the entire bottom comes off to reveal the AAA batteries underneath. The buttons all have a satisfying clickiness to them, and have the same texturing as the remote body, making sure the whole thing feels consistent. The remote's buttons also have a backlight that turns on when a button is pressed or it detects movement; the lighting is just strong enough to let you clearly see, but not bright enough to be distracting if you've turned the lights down for a movie. The ABXY buttons and Xbox button aren't backlit, however.
The button layout is slightly awkward compared to other remotes. While I greatly appreciate the ABXY buttons being put in a flattened diamond shape, what makes the layout awkward is how the playback controls, as well as Start and Select (or Menu and View, as you might call them), are put up at the very top with the Xbox button. I'm very much used to remotes that put the playback controls below the D-pad, so it feels kind of off in this regard.
A big caveat if you plan to use this remote, or any Xbox One remote for that matter, is that X1 remotes are incapable of controlling the TV directly, and must send the signal to the X1 which then relays it to the TV. This doesn't sound bad at first--and it isn't, if your TV can send and receive signals via HDMI--but the Xbox One lacks an IR emitter, meaning you'll need to either buy an external one that hooks up via a 3.5mm jack on the back, or an entire Kinect. Yeah... I actually have a Kinect, and as a result it works quite consistently, but at one point I also had an external IR emitter, and that was pretty unreliable since I couldn't stick it to my TV's IR emitter directly. This isn't really a fault of the remote, however; this is just due to shortsightedness on Microsoft's part when it came to designing the Xbox One--remember that at one point the Kinect was not only standard, but required.
Anyway, this is an excellent remote, that plays to the Xbox One's strengths well and also works despite the console's weaknesses. Certainly worth it if you like using your X1 for playing and streaming media.
