The best initial settings starting from the left:

- Game/Chat Mix – Start with this slider in the middle. Adjust the slider upward toward “Game” to better hear game audio (in-game music, dialogue, explosions, etc.) over chat audio. Move the slider down toward “Chat” to better hear chat from teammates and/or other players over game audio.

- Background Noise Limiter – Start with this slider at the bottom. Slowly adjust the slider upward and the TAC will begin to remove background noise. You’ll need a friend or another player on the receiving end to tell you when to stop moving the slider, as you won’t hear any difference in your headset.

- Outbound Mic Boost – Start with this slider at the bottom. Slowly adjust the slider upward and the TAC will begin increasing the volume of your outbound voice chat. You’ll need a friend or another player on the receiving end to tell you when to stop moving the slider, as you won’t hear any difference in your headset.

- Mic Monitor Level – Start with this slider at the bottom. Begin talking and slowly adjust the slider upward and you’ll start to hear your voice inside your headset. This allows you to hear how loud you sound on the receiving end, and will help you avoid shouting at other players.

I don't understand the negativity the TAC seems to generate with some people.
Sounds terrible for Xbox one? Not at all.Audio is distored? Chat is horrible? Everyone I've played with over Xbox Live says it sound fine (and I have hundreds of hours of gameplay using this).Outbound chat distorted when using charge cable? Umm.. several posts in the Q&A state this will happen. Shouldn't have been a surprise. The adjusment sliders moves to easily? Well, I don't keep my TAC where the adjusters get inadvertently moved while gaming so it's not an issue for me at all (although I suppose if my cat gets intrigued by the lights on the sliders and jumps up on my desk to play with them it may become an issue).Mixamp pro sounds way better? Umm, I have both and no, it doesn't sound way better. They are actually pretty comparable.Surround sound doesn't work? DTS Headphone:X work very well compared to other solutions. It's actually better than the Mixamp Pro, but neither can compare to true surround sound as it's simulated. Being headphones, the sound simply doesn't travel enough distance to create actual surround. It's nowhere near perfect, but it's the best you're going to find. If you think it sucks on the TAC, you'll find it sucks more on any other solution. The only legitimate complaint I've read is that paired with the Xbox One, it requires a cable to be conntected to the controller. I guessing a bit here, but that's probably the tradeoff for the TAC being able to work on BOTH the Xbox One and the PS4 as MS chose to use a proprietary chat setup on the Xbox One (still cannot figure out why Turtle Beach couldn't find a way around this as my 520X didn't require this). Okay, i can't aruge that the Footsteps Focus preset is not unusably overzealous, but that's hardly a dealbreaker. On the other hand, Superhuman hearing really is effective. As far as using the TAC with A40's, while they work (you can connect either device to any headphone) you simply won't get the volume as you would with the Mixamp. The A40's high 50 ohm impedence means they aren't as efficient as the Elite Pro headset at 32 ohm; they require more power so it won't be as loud as the TAC matched with the Elite Pro headset. It's simply physics. The worst thing about the TAC is they are (or were) overpriced. When TB first release these, the headset, TAC, and the noise cancelling mic would have set you back about $430, which is ridiculous, regardless of how good they are. Recently, their prices have beern dropped and I've seen them listed on Amazon for short periods (a day or two) $111 a couple of times, and at that price they are great. At $149 the value for most will likely be "so-so".The regular price right now is $149 for the headset and $149 for the TAC, so it will set you back $298 (you can add the noise cancelling mic for another $10). This is reasonable, but you can get the A40 TR with mixamp for $249 (and $199 on sale if you pay attention -- and at that price it's a no-brainer which to choose).I'm not going to be a fanboy and trash either one, or say one is way better than the other. Sound and comfort are both subjective, so neither answer will be correct. While I give the nod to the Elite Pro setup (slightly better sound, slightly better positional audio, and a couple more features in the audio controller), either setup rocks when set up properly. After evaluating both, I kept the Elite Pro setup and returned the Astros, but depending on the price point available at the time you're ready to purchase, one may offer better (even way better at the $199 Astro price point) value over the other. For me, what tipped the scale was the Elite Pro set was arguabley a bit better, and the TAC works with both my PS4 and Xbox One. In my situation, getting the Astro would require me to purchase 2 mixamps, and for me that's not a good value.I would've given the TAC 5/5 starts except it requires an additional cable for chat to work on Xbox One. No excuse for that.
