There are many technology sites listing the vulnerability of current smart home systems, that is why I will not the using ANY smart LOCKS. As it stands if something is hacked in my system, the worst that can happen is that all the outlet are turned on increasing me power bill, but no doors will be unlocked. Unfortunately the vulnerability is based on the 2 underlying (Z-Wave & ZigBee) protocols and will not be solved until new items are available with updated and more secure versions of the protocol are available. Since this is a protocol issue, it affects ALL system that use them.
Got replacement motion sensor which works well. Also added a few controlled outlet devices (1 Zigbee, 1 Zwave) which work well for light controls and extend network out to my garage which is close by but is a separate building. Also added garage door controller (GoControl/Linear/Iris), and Ecobee Lite 3 thermostat. Overall, I am pleased with the SmartThings hub and devices and the app on my Android phone. Raised from 3 to 4 stars mostly due to broad device support, good integration with Echo/Alexa for voice control, and support for both Zigbee and Zwave protocols. Also the phone app has been upgraded a few times with new, useful features.
Initial setup is pretty good. Having trouble with the motion sensor device. Both in connecting to the hub and actually detecting motion. The other sensors seem to work well and I have integrated the outlet with my Echo so I can use voice command to turn that on/off. Echo doesn't yet directly support asking for the other sensor status (open/closed, temps, battery levels).
I went to online chat with Samsung to work on the motion detector problem. Was going fine and at critical moment, the chat broke connection. Might have been my fault if I hit wrong button. Had to restart chat. This chat went to completion and they said they will send me a new sensor because this one connects and reports status (temp and battery level) but does not detect motion.
Note that the motion sensor in my package is a 2015 version. There is a newer 2016 version. You might want to be sure that you are getting a 2016 Kit. It seems this one might be one that has been sitting on the shelf awhile. I think the other items are current.
Will update with status on motion sensor setup when replaced and resolved.
