I bought a pair of these for a NAS. Thought they would be robust as they are purpose-built drives. I've been managing servers and NAS for 30 years and can't remember a drive that wasn't already DOA, fail in about a year (not counting those little USB portable drives). It may be the higher speed and/of heat, but my replacement will be a Red drive.

Having run desktop drives for 5+ years, all of my NAS units failed within 1 week of each other. My 5 redundant storage systems became 1 last remaining.

These disks are super fast and work perfectly in my Synology NAS systems. They are very quiet & a few degrees cooler than the desktop version. Time will tell if they outlast the Seagate desktop versions they replace.

After 1 month use, zero reconnections or errors.

The drive is great. Good value in terms of cost per GB. Quiet, Reliable, 3 years in NAS so far.

Bu the recent drive arrived in a soft envelope, with zero padding around it. None. Zilch, just the anti static wrapping. I would not have been surprised had the drive failed when installed. Needs to be wrapped guys. Took off a star for that.

I had to replace the hard drive I had. It had crashed on my security system. I bought this Seagate for the system. It was easy to install, works great. Has more storage than the old one. Really satisfied with it.

I ordered five under the 'black Friday' special that was going on (27% off IIRC). Of those five, one reported errors on my NAS and had to be replaced. At least I was able to get Amazon to send a brand new drive to replace it (did that the day I installed that drive and got the error). Replacement drive took days to arrive (didn't ship with Prime level, even though I ordered the originals under Prime).
Once my NAS rebuilt the array with the replacement drives (process that took several days, but that was expected), I was able to expand the array to fill (after fighting the array there, but that just needed a full reboot to get to happen).
I replaced five Barracuda drives with these. I know, desktop drives don't belong in a NAS. Which is why I went with these. I do plan to order one more to keep on hand in case I get a drive failure while under warranty (to swap out while the replacement is sent). I also plan to get a newer NAS in the next 2-3 years and will migrate important data to that so that when these drives do fail, I can retire the array. Something that needs to be planned since it's now approaching 10 years old. The fact that the [QNAP] NAS continues to work as expected means a lot to me. I'll be looking to see what the manufacturer has available when I'm ready for it's replacement.

Great hard drive. Been running strong as primary drive on Synology Ds214j NAS for over a month. Speed and performance are living up to expectations. The most important factor however won't be able to be answered until it fails. I am expecting this to pass the test of time. I will update review if it fails.

Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 22, 2018
Bought this disk to replace the failing 3TB Disk in my Ubuntu File Server which is loaded with 24TBs with ZFS. Easy swap. Id highly recommend these disks if your running some sort of a File Server or Storage Server as your regular Desktop Disks have less of a lifespam when on 24/7. The old disk i replaced with the New 3TB NAS Disk was in the File Server for 3 years.

These Disks dont really get warm like regular Desktop Disks.
Recommend running a long full Smart Test Overnight on any new Disk.
Will order some more to Replace other Disks.
These disks dont give out much vibration like Desktop Disks.

    Would i recommend these Disks?
Yes if your going to be installing in a NAS or a Linux File Server or any other Storage Server.
I would not recommend installing in a Desktop or a Workstation as a boot drive.
Would be okay to use in a Workstation or Desktop as a Storage Drive.
Would i recommend without Redundancy? No any disk can fail even when its new.
These Disks are good if your stacking them in a backplane in a Server Chassis or NAS Chassis.

    Cons?
    None it does it job.
