Typical hard-wired timer switches are about the same price, but require additional cost for installation (unless you're handy). The iDevices Socket was just what I needed!
I plan to order more for other lights. Programming & recipes are easy, even custom color-changing for mood/season, plus dimming capability.
iDevices states that dimmable bulbs are recommended for best features results. I'm using LED bulbs (Cree).
The iDevice socket is really amazing! It is a little too large to fit on some of my lamps due to the narrowness of the harp, but all the other floor lamps and regular lamps have now been transformed into super lamps capable of timed lighting, remote operation via my phone and any color mood lighting. Aside from the iDevices thermostats, this is definitely my favorite product because if it's versatility of use and capabilities! For instance, my daughter's nightstand lamp with the iDevices socket has transformed into a scheduled dimmed night light and because of the easy on off button she can still use the light at the push of a button without needing a Phone app. It's also nice because I can check to see if her light is on or off for those times that she should be in bed sleeping in had decided to get up and play or read. If any of you have children who are difficult to wake up in the morning, I have the ability to turn on her lamp from a dimmed night light to full throttle glaring light which helps Bring her out of a deep sleep about an hour before her actual wake up time. This combined with a 30 minute pre-wake up call has made our mornings actually enjoyable.
On a more practical note, I found that adding this iDevices socket to my existing account literally took me 60 seconds to set up and to figure out how to operate all the features of the light, the timer, and the nightlight! I will be purchasing several more of these to use in a floor lamp, my nightstand lamps and two wall sconces. The convenience and ease of being able to turn on the lights remotely as well as set up a "scene" so with one simple command it turns on/dims how many ever iDevices you want makes this super practical for when you come home and feel safer with all the lights being turned on before you enter your home just in case there's someone in the house that you didn't plan on being there.
Last week there was also a situation where I was awoken to a small crash downstairs, I was able to turn on all my iDevices lights downstairs… Before actually going downstairs.... which made me way more comfortable going downstairs. Luckily for me it was only the cat knocking over a vase but had it been an intruder, I'm sure my iDevices turning on would have scared the intruder away keeping me and my daughter safe. I can't just tell you how much I love the iDevices products! I'll have to write a separate review for the iDevices switch and talk about the benefits of the timers while I am traveling and being able to change things up so it looks like I'm home.
I’ve used several of the socket switch products with total satisfaction using the Apple Home Kit. In this application, I built an outdoor lamppost that is moveable and plugs into an outlet of my choice. I now I can turn the light on remotely (with and app or Siri) and control the brightness. Could not find another product that can do this as easy.
