This is a perfect solution to timers on outside lights (protected fixtures). It works with Apple Home Kit & TV, plus voice command via Amazon Echo & Apple's Siri. NO HUB or subscription required, just connect to your Wi-Fi & use the iDevices app. Can be controlled away from home, too!

Typical hard-wired timer switches are about the same price, but require additional cost for installation (unless you're handy). The iDevices Socket was just what I needed!

I plan to order more for other lights. Programming & recipes are easy, even custom color-changing for mood/season, plus dimming capability.

iDevices states that dimmable bulbs are recommended for best features results. I'm using LED bulbs (Cree).

Setup is straightforward with Apple Home app but not so much with Amazon Alexa. This is due to the easier Apple interface compared to Amazon. Took just a minute to set up on Apple but 30 minutes with Amazon. Be sure to read the directions beforehand and carefully if linking to Alexa and things should go smoothly. Once set up, this little socket has performed well with no issues. We use a regular incandescent 60W and dimming is smooth and accurate. Our master bedroom lamps are linked so we can turn on lights with one command or turn on lights individually with two commands. The socket has an LED light ring that can be changed to any color. It's useful as a night light but not strong enough to set a mood. Deducting one star because setup to Alexa requires serious concentration and because the night light could be so much more.

I'm going to order more! When I first started with iDevices over a year ago, the set up and the App we're not very user-friendly and I was questioning my decision to have purchased them. However, now things have dramatically improved in one years time. All of my old devices have had software updates and the update to the app has made it super easy to intuitively program and use the iDevices products.

The iDevice socket is really amazing! It is a little too large to fit on some of my lamps due to the narrowness of the harp, but all the other floor lamps and regular lamps have now been transformed into super lamps capable of timed lighting, remote operation via my phone and any color mood lighting. Aside from the iDevices thermostats, this is definitely my favorite product because if it's versatility of use and capabilities! For instance, my daughter's nightstand lamp with the iDevices socket has transformed into a scheduled dimmed night light and because of the easy on off button she can still use the light at the push of a button without needing a Phone app. It's also nice because I can check to see if her light is on or off for those times that she should be in bed sleeping in had decided to get up and play or read. If any of you have children who are difficult to wake up in the morning, I have the ability to turn on her lamp from a dimmed night light to full throttle glaring light which helps Bring her out of a deep sleep about an hour before her actual wake up time. This combined with a 30 minute pre-wake up call has made our mornings actually enjoyable.

On a more practical note, I found that adding this iDevices socket to my existing account literally took me 60 seconds to set up and to figure out how to operate all the features of the light, the timer, and the nightlight! I will be purchasing several more of these to use in a floor lamp, my nightstand lamps and two wall sconces. The convenience and ease of being able to turn on the lights remotely as well as set up a "scene" so with one simple command it turns on/dims how many ever iDevices you want makes this super practical for when you come home and feel safer with all the lights being turned on before you enter your home just in case there's someone in the house that you didn't plan on being there.

Last week there was also a situation where I was awoken to a small crash downstairs, I was able to turn on all my iDevices lights downstairs… Before actually going downstairs.... which made me way more comfortable going downstairs. Luckily for me it was only the cat knocking over a vase but had it been an intruder, I'm sure my iDevices turning on would have scared the intruder away keeping me and my daughter safe. I can't just tell you how much I love the iDevices products! I'll have to write a separate review for the iDevices switch and talk about the benefits of the timers while I am traveling and being able to change things up so it looks like I'm home.

Not all product are useful in all application, so it took me awhile to find the right use. On the positive side, it works the way it should, it’s exceptionally useful if the light fixture does not have its own switch, and it’s about the only product in this category that can also remotely dim the light. The less positive attributes is its size; thus it might not be the product of choice for all application.
I’ve used several of the socket switch products with total satisfaction using the Apple Home Kit. In this application, I built an outdoor lamppost that is moveable and plugs into an outlet of my choice. I now I can turn the light on remotely (with and app or Siri) and control the brightness. Could not find another product that can do this as easy.

Though the light is effective. It took almost an hour to get to work. The app wouldn’t connected properly and kept saying “setting up device”. I finally had to change settings on my wifi to get it set up (I was using a secured network). Once that was finished I then spent 30 min figuring out how to get Alexa to work with the device. Though she can control the light, the nightlight portion still won’t work. Overall 3 stars due to poor set up design and even worse step by step set up instructions.

This was easy to set up. I have an Apple ecosystem at home so I'm using my large iPad Pro (I rarely take it with me) as the hub for homekit so my lamp upstairs turns on in the evening and then turns itself back off at dawn. It was a snap to set up and works great. I had planned to use it in my back porch light but the added height meant I couldn't fit the socket and bulb and then put the cap back on the light. Instead I'm using it in a lamp and it works great. I will have to rethink the back porch light.

Set up was a breeze, though I was briefly confused by the fact that the built in nightlight and the socket show up as separate "accessories" in HomeKit. 4 stars instead of 5 b/c the documentation is much too brief in my opinion. I did have some difficulty with non-responsive status after deleting the nightlight (part of my confusion). I had to delete my "Home" and begin over again from scratch. Working smoothly with Siri as well as the Home app on my iPhone.

Reviewed in Mexico on September 22, 2017
