Upgrading from the old Sony Xperia XZ1 as after 3 years the battery has just started to lose charge.
One of the reasons I chose this phone was It's size, it's slimmer and perfect, making it easier too hold and use. A good pocket size compared to most other phones on the market right now, Bigger isn't always better. The phone is much faster, the screen and audio is a great upgrade.
My XZ1 Camera was very good and still took great pics this was due to having Sony camera tech and 19MP. This phone has 12MP but 3x cameras and this is still more than enough as it gives you more shooting options and has Sony camera tech. The cameras works well and pictures look great.
The phone it's self looks top class and well built. But it's now in a case so not that important. I have dropped my XZ1 many a time and it just seemed to bounce back laughing. It also got accidentally submerged in water a few times and even though it made the sound go funny for a few hours it did nothing to damage the phone. So I have great confidence in the Xperia 5 as it has even tougher glass and the same water protection.
All works well so far and I am happy with the battery life. Price point is great compared to the newly released Xperia 1II. Which the main difference is the 5G chip and slightly better stats but I won't get 5G where I live for years and I'd rather have the £600 difference in my back pocket.
5.0 out of 5 stars
Well worth the price tag.

This was a rreplacement for a Sony XA2 which I really liked but with more apps loaded was becoming too slow and running out of memory. This phone is much faster and has 128Gb of memory which is great. Cameras seem fine for my undemanding use, although the app that detects a particular motion as meaning I am about to take a picture has not got it right yet.
The biggest problem for me is that the screen width in portrait mode is just a bit too small for easy reading (a consequence of the 21:9 aspect ratio) it is of course not impossible but just a bit irritating. The benefit of the widescreen may be that it is great for films but most pictures are not photographed in this aspect ratio so the narrow width makes the photos smaller in both portrait and landscape modes.
What I really wanted was a small phone so I can put it in a trouser pocket - with a lot of memory, fast processor good screen and camera and not too much unneccessary software - probably reflecting my advancing years, so Snapchat, TikTok etc. are not really my thing and the ability to work as a platform for them is not required.
Overall there are some great features and a really capable phone but that aspect ratio...
The only down side for me, is that it's slightly narrower than my old Sony phone that makes the display slightly harder to select with my finger and I've quiet slender fingers. You can change the character size and turn it 90deg to make it easier. Other than that it's a really good, fast mobile phone.
Second phone I've bought in the last 2 years for family use from Fone-Central. I love the compact nature of this phone, which has top flagship features and specs for a mid range price. It's already been updated by Sony to run Android 11. Bought as "Used like New" and the product I received was in flawless condition. Highly recommended.
