Tamron 70-200 2.8 G2

The new SP70-200mm F/2.8 G2 (Model A025) telephoto lens reimagines the highly acclaimed Model A009 with enhanced optical performance, improved VC (Vibration Compensation), faster AF speed and accuracy, and shortened MOD (Minimum Object Distance) for greater flexibility. What’s more, compatibility with optional Tamron teleconverters provides additional focal length. In keeping with the SP series’ innovative technology, the lens is designed to be durable, flexible and resilient enough to rise to any occasion.

High resolution meets beautiful bokeh

Tamron 70-200 2.8 G2

Every aspect of the SP 70-200mm F/2.8 G2 (Model A025) zoom has been improved, providing high image quality and enhanced bokeh throughout. Optical design features include XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion) and LD (Low Dispersion) glass to eliminate chromatic aberrations across the entire zoom range, ensuring optimum resolution— even at the edges. eBAND Coating designed exclusively for this new zoom offers superior anti- reflection properties, greatly minimizing flare and ghosting. And refined bokeh provides spectacular background effects from nearly any angle.

MOD reduced to 0.95m

Tamron 70-200 2.8 G2

Improvements to the new SP 70-200mm F/2.8 G2 extend well into the lens barrel. Tamron has reduced the MOD from 1.3m (50.7 in) in our older model to 0.95m (37.4 in), allowing a maximum magnification ratio of 1:6.1. The shorter MOD, coupled with the superb optical performance of this new zoom, allows you to significantly broaden your range of expression.

Tamron 70-200 2.8 G2

Accuracy in action

The USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive) ring-type motor, along with two high-performance microcomputers, ensures excellent focusing speed and accuracy. The Full-time Manual Focus override allows you to make fine adjustments while using AF, without having to switch from AF to MF mode.

Tamron 70-200 2.8 G2

Keep it steady with VC equal to 5 stops

Tamron’s best VC* image stabilization performance is equivalent to 5 stops**, according to CIPA standards. Plus, this lens offers a choice of three VC modes, including one exclusively for panning. Now you can match the VC mode to your shooting conditions and enjoy sharp, jitter-free handheld shooting—even in low light. * Among 70-200mm F/2.8 interchangeable lenses for full-frame DSLR cameras. (As of January, 2017. Source: Tamron.) ** Using in VC MODE 3 For Canon: 5D-MKIII is used For Nikon: D810 is used

Possibly sharper than my 100-400 II

Possibly sharper than my 100-400 II
I was reading some reviews of this lens, and a couple people were throwing around the term tack sharp. I have the G2 Version of Tamron's 150-600, and it's definitely not as sharp as my Canon 100-400 II, so I didn't necessarily place much faith in the claims of the reviews. I was curious, though, so I figured I could return it if I wasn't satisfied. Well, I have to give Tamron credit for this lens. It's very sharp, approaching the sharpness of my Pentax K-70 and new 55-300 combo (the K-70 has no low-pass filter, and those two make for the sharpest setup I've ever used). The depth of field is a blessing and a curse, being razor thin at these focal lengths, so I need to practice that some more, but that's no fault of the lens. It's pretty heavy, close to that of the 100-400, so that will take some acclimation. Autofocus is very fast and virtually silent, although perhaps not *quite* as fast as the Canon lens. The manual override is a very nice feature, and the focus ring is buttery smooth. The zoom ring is not quite as nice, but still works fine. I have a 7D Mark II, and I figured that because of its low-pass filter, and other factors, I just resigned myself to its less than staggeringly sharp output. But with this lens, I've been proven wrong, and I know now that the 7D is capable of some very sharp images, indeed. I haven't tried either version of Canon's 70-200, and I only tried Sigma's version briefly (it seemed pretty sharp, though), but if you're looking for a 70-200, and your budget won't quite allow for L glass, the Tamron is a killer alternative.

The lens is amazing and very well built, it is comparable to the Canon zoom but at a better price point.. Though I will do some still photography using my new Lumix S1R I am mostly interested in doing video with this set up. I bought the Sigma Adaptor from Leica cam mount to Canon EF mount because all my other lenses are Canon compatible.

I only use 3 lenses, I'm not rich and if ur smart 3 and broke like me, this is one of the ones I need. Anyway this one is one of my favorite lenses, it's a great alternative for canons expensive white 70mm-200mm... This is my second Tamron lens, the other one was an older model. And its amazing, never given me problems. Not to mention my old model was used.
