Product Description
In the Gloom card game, you assume control of the fate of an eccentric family of misfits and misanthropes. The goal of the game is sad, but simple: you want your characters to suffer the greatest tragedies possible before passing on to the well-deserved respite of death. Play horrible mishaps like Pursued by Poodles or Mocked by Midgets on your own characters, while trying to cheer your opponents' characters with marriages and other happy occasions. Printed on transparent plastic cards, Gloom features an innovative design by Keith Baker. Multiple modifier cards can be played on top of the same character card; since the cards are transparent, elements from previously played modifier cards either show through or are obscured by those played above them. You'll immediately and easily know the worth of every character, no matter how many modifiers they have. You've got to see (through) this game to believe it! The second edition includes sturdy new packaging, rules fixes, timing icons, reminder cards, and more; plus it's fully compatible with the first edition game and supplements. It's sure to delight even the most despondent Gloom fan!

One of the pros and cons of this game is that it really depends on the people you're playing with. If you are in a group of likeminded friends that enjoy stories, have the same sense of humor, and are willing to sound a little bit silly while you're playing this game it is awesome. You can really develop some awesome intertwining stories until hearing what happens next is almost as good as winning the game. Or you can play with someone that doesn't share that enjoyment and tries to eliminate their characters as quickly as possible without really telling a story beyond what the card says. I've played both ways and the former is much more enjoyable.
I would definitely recommend this game either way. I'm looking forward to picking up the expansions in the future and think this will be a staple on certain game nights.
Each player controls a family of unsavory or ill-presented characters and tries to make them as miserable as possible before killing them off in interesting and at times incredibly disturbing means. As your characters gain negative point modifiers, your opponents do their best to cheer them up - the fiends!! You have the opportunity to lift their characters’ spirits too, so you can’t complain too much.
The mechanics are easy to learn and the flow of the game is a quick but not dizzying pace. The real fun is coming up with reasons to do dastardly deeds to the denizens of your deck, attempting to approximate the alliterative aspects of the afflictions applied. What excuses will you and your friends come up with to explain the horrible events that traumatize children, dogs, old ladies, and even a Frankenstein’s monster of a teddy bear?
Although I thoroughly enjoy the game and it has decent replay value, I give the base set only four stars because the core set comes with only four families and a limited deck you’ll come to be familiar with very quickly. Considering the low cost of the game, however, it’s still an excellent value.
This little "party" game is a fun way to tell a story and give your family the ho-hum. You must kill your family to win, knowing full well that your opponent is doing everything possible to thwart your intentions. Of course, you're doing the same to them.
This game has some of the most inventive cards I've ever seen in a game. They're transparent except for nesessary print. Other cards - well, buy the game and find out.

Keep in mind, this game is DARK. You basically make the people as miserable as possible, then kill them off.
I played it with my girlfriends, and we were cracking up the entire time!

The quality of the cards is wonderful, and they are beautiful to look.
The game itself is easy enough to play, you have your family members and can play modifiers on then. The aim is to play negative modifiers on your cards, and positive modifiers on your opponents.
The real fun in the game comes from the stories you make. Each modifier has a brief line like 'fell down a well' or 'abandoned at the alter' and it's up to you to flesh out the tale.
As a result the success of the game depends on how creative you and your friends. If you have one person who doesn't get it the whole thing falls apart.
But all in all a great game with the right people
