When asking about this on Corsair's forums, they recommended an RMA for the same unit. Based on the many youtube videos documenting this noise and the numerous posts around this, I simply returned my unit to Best Buy for a full refund.
In looking into the Corsair models more, the CX is a lower model PSU. Anything above the CX model has the "smart" fan, which I did not want. This led me to this model.
- Great power supply
- Features a constantly running fan (at variable speeds depending on load/temp)
- Modular cabling, which allows for clean cable runs and reduces unneeded wires
- Low noise even with fan constantly running, even at higher loads/temps
While they tout the "smart" fan as a feature, for a gaming rig, I look at it as a drawback. The more airflow, the better.
I have been impressed with CX series and have not had any issues with the PSU. It is structually sound and appears solidly built. Highly recommend this unit to anyone looking for more power in their PC.
My rig:
Dell XPS 8100
Intel i7
16 GB RAM
250 GB Samsung SSD
3 TB Seagate HD
2 DVD/CD-ROMs
nVidia GTX 660 Ti (requires dual PCIe power adapters)
Dell 23" LED Monitor (DVI)
Sony Bravia 32" LCD TV (HDMI)
My need was for a machine that would happily work Davinci Resolve video editing. I used a Geforce 6GB GPU for the video crunching, but to do so I had to add an external power supply and ditch the on-board PSU for the Dell. There are NO spare power taps on the 3670 - no supplementary power for cards or additional drives. The ATX mobo connection is also special which means you can't use the 24-pin ATX connector that comes with the Corsair.
You must separately get a 24-pin to 8-Pin adapter to power the mobo, and then take the 6-pin CPU connector from the Corsair to the CPU socket on the mobo. This worked for me: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01A210HKO and there are others available
Then you have power to the GPU, and power for a second drive (so I could switch to an SSD plus the original HDD as a data store) plus power to a USB3 card for my external data stores..
The new PSU sits on top of the case, and snakes in through the remaining slot access - not to everyone's taste - but it all works very happily and is almost silent. I retained the original PSU and connectors so I can reverse this out for a vanilla machine at a later date. It voids the warranty from Dell, of course, but if you cared about that then you wouldn't be here. Good luck.

Regrettably, my first unit was not functional. I tested it prior to the build using the below method (see the video).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FWXgQSokF4
The fan turned on successfully using the paper clip method, however when I tried to power up the processor and motherboard, it would not function. I believe there was a problem with the wiring to the motherboard from the factory. No matter what I did, it would not power up when connected to the MOBO. I verified that the MOBO and processor worked by plugging in my old power supply, and everything worked.
I did not try to reach Corsair, after reading online it appears there is about a 10% failure rate. I returned the item to Amazon with no issue and bought the same unit from a local store (for the same price). The new unit worked perfectly and has been running for a week.
Overall, I am pleased with the functioning unit. It is virtually silent, does not vibrate and was easy to install. It came with plenty of connectors and instructions. It's disappointing that the first unit was DOA, but it happens. Amazon is great - the return was effortless.
Top reviews from other countries
It has been 6 months since I first got this PSU and it has been running smoothly every since the first power up. I'll make it short and sweet though:
~80 Plus Bronze. For those who have no clue what this is, it is a critical metric used in Rating PSU. Anything Rated with 80 Plus ((White, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Titanium)) are made with higher quality parts the higher tier it goes, making for a much better unit that will have less and less of a chance of exploding, short circuiting, blowing up, etc etc. This also means 80 Plus PSU are 80% efficient which means 80% of the power isn't getting chewed up by heat.
~750 Watts. While stating the obvious, this means you can have quite a bit of power cycling through this and even have the options for SLi/Crosffire configurations. It provides more then enough power to run even a single card as well, like a GTX 980-980TI and AMD R9 Nano's or Fury X
~Semi-Modular. This gives You, the consumer, the options to use the cables you only need. While the ATX ((24 pin)) connector is still wired into the unit itself, other options like 4, 6 and 8 pins are all optional to plug in. This means you only have to plug in what you need, making cable management FAR easier and no unused cables cluttered up in your case.
~Modular Cables are all black. No funky colors here ((except the 24 pin ATX, though it is mostly hidden by mesh)) so it makes it far more pleasing to look at.
~Easy to install for First timer Builders
~Reliable performance from a reputable company ((Corsair))
Now, you likely won't get a great deal I got (($70-75ish CAD)) as I got mine during an Inventory sweep. HOWEVER, it should be noted that this is still a very reputable and reliable unit, especially first time builders or those looking to expand their system further. People will say what they will about the CX series but I have had zero issues with mine while running my gaming rig. If you are looking for something easy to use, easy on the eyes and leaves plenty of room for future upgrading, a good unit like this isn't a bad choice at all.
(My RTX 3080 will be delivered in October because we live in India)
Another reason to get this is because of less wires, create less clutter in the case.
Check the rest of the specs in the image.
I don't think it comes with a Molex connector but I may be wrong since I did not check for it.
Strangely enough, the seller sent me WhatsApp messages to ask what my configuration is.
Now I don't want to complain about them reaching out to me to check for compatibility, it's probably for the betterment of humanity. Anyways, I thought this might be something you, the reader, would want to know.

Other notes:
-Very sturdy feeling psu
-3 year warranty
-Looks good.
-Comes with zip ties for easy cable management
-Great for upgrading your pc, this will allow you to run just about any gpu out there and in most cases 2 of it.
if looks are concerning to you)
-Creates about the same amount of noise as my old 340Wat delta power supply that I replaced. Which I would imagine is a good thing as this psu puts out more than double the power
-80+ bronze power efficiency
-----------What does 80+ mean?-----------
When you see 80+ it meant it is a more power efficient power supply bronze means appx 18% of power to the power supply is lost as heat, regular 80+ means 20% loss (silver= 15% loss) (gold= 13% loss) (platinum= 11% loss.) (80+ and 80+ bronze is where you do best for your money as more efficient power supplies have a tendency to be a lot more expensive).
If the power supply you are going to buy does not have an 80+ mark on it there is a good chance it is made with cheap inferior parts from china and a cheap power supply can damage your computer.
